This is a museum with a difference. It doesn't hold actual pieces of da Vinci's work, but instead has reproduced some of his inventions, like the underwater diving apparatus, tank, other weapons and labour saving devices designed to improve life. Most items can be touched and used. There is a room where you can try and do some puzzles and fiddle with his gadgets. There is also a very god film about his life and models of parts of the body he had worked on. The emphasis here is the machines, not the art. Our children aged 10, 12 and 17 enjoyed it - particularly the throat disection! It shows his diverse interests and talents. It wasn't very crowded either!

Interesting models of machines invented/designed by Leonardo da Vinci. Also an excellent film that gives an historical context to his work. There are actually two da Vinci museums that show his machines, the other is on via dei Servi. Both are excellent. This one you can book online, the second one you pay at the counter in the shop and can actually make some of the machines work.

It is a great museum just 2 minutes walk from Duomo with cheap ticket(7€ adults and 5€ college students). It is small but it gives you all the information about Leonardo and his inventions, popular paintings, anatomy studies. You can touch all the invention and see actually how they work. The most impressive is that it was open on the 1st of January! There is also a wonderful shop outside. I would say that if you have an hour it totally deserves a visit.

Workable models of nearly every idea that Divinci had can be found in this museum. For those who have no interest in science or in history, I suppose they may not agree with me, but I believe this museum to be one of the better presentations of ingenuity in Italy.

We found a leaflet for this museum in another attraction, otherwise we would not have known about it as it’s not highlighted on any of the tourists’ maps.

It’s very small, and there is an entrance fee. A lot of reconstructed models to explain Da Vinci’s theories, and some are hands on, i.e. you can play with them. We found it very interesting, but we understand why some people gave it poor reviews, it’s a basic museum, and only offers a very small window view into Da Vinci’s life of inventions.
