Reviewed 10 November 2012

Our experience in Casa Di Mina was just perfect! The house is amazing, decoration is very taste full, the rooms are very comfortable, quiet, perfect size, in few words very cozy, it felt like home.
Lynda gave us a map with good recommendations of places to visit as well non touristic places to eat which were great! We enjoyed our stay very much, unfortunately we only stayed one night but we are coming back for sure! In the morning you have a very nice salon in which breakfast is served, loved the croissaint! There is a little bit of everything fruit, yogurt, cereal, toast, cold meats and cheese, juice, jam, fresh butter, coffee, tea, and there is always nice music on the background.
The place is just great, it is a beautiful house in the best residential area of Florence so you are not in the "caos" of the city, but yet you are very well communicated cause there is a bus stop 3 min from the house or it is a nice 15 min walk to downtown.
We are very thankful to Lynda for receiving us in her house cause she make us felt like home!

We booked a 3 night stay here after seeing the great reviews Casa di Mini got and although we had stayed in Florence before where looking forward to exploring a new area of the city.

On the plus side, the apartment is very stylish and individual and clean but the warm hospitality which is such a feature of the reviews just wasnt there for us. We hardly saw any of the hosts .. only on arrival and on paying and were never asked if everything was ok or if we were enjoying our stay. Maybe its the Italian style of B&B which is different but there are no drinks making facilities in the rooms although there is a kettle in the dining room .. with sachets of tea/coffee but no sugar or milk. At the first breakfast the coffee pot on the table had enough coffee for half a cup each, no sugar, no milk and there was no juice although there were juice glasses. The fruit salad appeared to be chopped apple with the odd grape. The second breakfast was better, served by a member of staff I think although no one introduced themselves so not sure. On the final day, I had to find someone as there was no yoghurt or milk for the cereal. And on all three days there was no spoons for the cereal/yoghurt. This may sound picky but when we are away and paying for B&B rather than self catering one of the pleasures is usually a really nice breakfast. This felt like someone was going through the motions .... and not with any particular enthusiasm. We were asked on the final day if we would like some cold meats and cheese - by man who had been changing beds, who I had had to hunt out to ask for milk.. and I could hear him opening the packets in the kitchen which turned out to be the cheapest kind of meats/cheese available from supermarkets.... it just felt a bit mean and without much love and for 100 euros per night we felt a little bit taken advantage of.

Yes, the place is interesting to look at ...the bed was comfortable and the shower hot but its next to a very busy road and the walk into Florence takes about 30 minutes along bumpy noisy pavements. We took a few taxis - particularly in the evening and the fare is around 12 euros. We did hope to be able to spend time in the local area but on looking around this mainly residential area there did not appear much on offer - and there is no entertainment at all in the Casa - no dvd facilities, no books or magazines in English - which we have found a nice touch in other accommodation.

All in all we were puzzled in the difference between our experience and the reviews and obviously we would not recommend the Casa di Mina.

We stayed six nights at Casa di Mina and had a great time there. Lynda, Francesco and Leslie have taken such good care of us and Mina was such a cute little girl. They speak English very well, which was great for me because my Italian is horrible. We had really nice conversations with them and they are such friendly and lovely people, we felt at home.

There are only 4 rooms available so make sure you book in time. We stayed in 2 different rooms (first three nights in Room 1 and the other three nights in Room 4). Both rooms are really nice, but if I can give a preference it would be Room 4. We loved that room the most. Beds are comfortable, bathroom is clean and the design of the rooms is beautiful. We loved to go out on the balcony every morning in the breakfast room to overlook the garden. The breakfast is really nice and includes: juice, tea, coffee, milk, yogurt, cerials, toast, crackers, sweet croissants, prosciutto, salami, cheese and marmalade. And we met so many nice other guests during breakfast. Great places attact great people I guess!

The B&B is not in the centre itself, but we did not mind at all (walking to the Ponte Vecchio takes about 15 to 20 minutes). We loved to walk and see more from Florence then only the centre. The atmosphere in this part of Florance is lovely and not crowded with tourists. Also the restaurants at this side of the Arno are great. If you do mind to walk this distance, ask for the bikes. They are available to use to explore Florence. And bus 11 has a stop nearby the B&B and nearby Ponte Vecchio, so that is also an option.

We rented a car and could easily park in front of the B&B for free. From here it is easy to visit Siena and Fiesole and other great cities nearby.

To conclude, please visit this perfect place and enjoy it like we did!

Room Tip: Room 4 is at the front side were you could hear a little traffic, but we did not mind it at all. Roo...

We recently came back from a fabulous short break in Florence to attend a friend's wedding. Our hotel, Casa di Mina was set in the Oltrarno district of Florence on the far side of the river from the centre of Florence. The whole area has retained a more genuine, local character with exquisite gardens (Boboli) and the park with a replica of the David with views across to the Duomo (Cathedral).

On arrival to the Casa di Mina B&B we were greeted by Lynda who equipped us well for our stay with a map, recommendations of restaurants and sights as well as trips to get around on local buses or the bicycles provided for free by the hotel. The service we received was second to none, the B&B felt like a home from home, our ironing for the wedding we were attended was sorted out by one of the ladies from the hotel for free, which made our lives very easy on the day of the wedding. Lynda sorted out the taxi for us to the wedding so everything ran extra smoothly and was zero stress.

Our room was spotless, tastefully decorated and so quiet - a big change from living on a flight path in London! Breakfast was great enough food to set you up for a day exploring the beautiful city. We regret not making the most of the terrace and gardens in the villa but being on a short break we spent a lot of time seeing as much as possible. When we go back, it is definitely the place to sit on a quiet evening with a glass of wine enjoying the sunshine!

If you're looking for genuine Italian hospitality, a family run place and an unforgettable stay, chose Casa di Mina. We have been to Florence before but this time we were able to experience the city as the locals do rather than in the blur of the tourist crowds. It makes for a much more relaxing experience - I'm always a fan of seeing the real Italy.

Thanks to Lynda, Francesco and little Mina!

I had the pleasure of staying at Casa di Mina last year and had a wonderful time. Lynda is such a great and kind hostess. The B&B is wonderful with big rooms and a cozy feel to it. We were in a residential area so you can really relax at night with no noise, but it's close enough to the city that you can walk. I really loved every day I sept there.

Absolutely loved staying at this wonderful B&B. The only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 is because it's very slightly off the beaten path. When I say off the beaten path, it just means you don't walk out your door and cross the river. However, they have bikes available to use and it's a very quick jaunt down the hill to the Oltrano. Getting back can be tiring after a day of biking and sightseeing but that's my only knock on this place.

In a country not known for it's breakfast, Casa Di Mina included a very sufficient European breakfast. The room was lovely and the caretakers had no problem accommodating our every need, which included ironing, calling a cab, waking us up, etc. Very lovely people. Very lovely place. And the B&B's namesake is cute as a button.

My husband and I stayed at Casa di Mina at the end of May and it was a great choice. as everyone has stated rooms are clean, elegantly decorated without losing the sense of its origin and the city it resides in. Lynda and Francesco are friendly and happy to help where they can, the restaurant they recommended to us - 'La Terrazza del Principe' was a short leafy stroll and we enjoyed it so much we went back again!

the city center is a short bus 11 ride away, buy your bus tickets at any tobacconist store or the Poggio cafe near the B&B- remember it only is valid for an hour and a half from when you scan it in the bus. otherwise you can walk if you don't mind.

the B&B is located in a leafy and quiet area, the road it faces is a 'main' road and even though we heard the cars they were not a big thing especially as u always heard birds through out the day.

all rooms are as you see them on the site and the junior suite has its own en suite- although we personally thought the other bigger bathroom had more charm due to is tap, handle fittings etc which we felt fitted the Italian villa much more.

we would definitely stay here again and recommend it to other travelers- particularly if you want to pamper yourself with a real double/ queen bed- rather than twin bed pushed together, a spacious room to relax in, beautiful gardens and yummy breakfast.
