“Not worth it”
Reviewed 10 May 2012 via mobile

Dated hotel.

Clean , everything has an antique feel as I don't think anything has been replaced since inception.

Bathroom decor and colour scheme straight Out of a 70s psychiatric ward , with the water presure in the bath /shower about as powerful as spittle.

Aircon unit should be called a fan unit and we had the dubious honour of some blow back from smokers room or floor and our final night was spent in hot smoke stenched room delightful.

Location of the hotel is good. Staff ok there was 1 gentleman Angelo who provided fanastic service and was polite and helpful and he deserves to be in a better location.

Conversely there was a tall 40+ waiter in the morning straight out of faulty towers ... Shouting at you and his fellow waiters.

This is is not 4* by any stretch of the imagination.

Extremely disappointing

we stayed here for 4 nights few days back, and let me break down this for you so it helps you make the decision easier ... We payed 277 a night for this hotel and was it worth it? .... ABSOLUTELY NO! This is no way a 4 star hotel, at best a 3 star (its quite dated, and needs renovation). Now to be perfectly honest with you if it was for 150 a night, I would not mind recommending this to you (as you can look beyond some of the stuff at that price) but not from anything more then that, as you can get a lot better for that price.
We were upgraded to a deluxe room (thank god ...since we can only imagine what a regular room looked like). Size of the room was good, but its just that the hotel is so old that you can't look beyond it). The bathroom was our biggest problem ... the tub was very small and the toilets were very old (now this is one thing my wife had the biggest problem with). We stayed around Italy for 3 weeks in different hotels and for most part we never had any issues regarding bathrooms in any of our rooms but this was the only exception (they definitely need to upgrade those!).
Now the reason I gave this hotel 2 stars is because of staff (they were GOOD!). They valued your business and helped you whichever way they could.
Breakfast was below average (comparing to other hotels we stayed at). And the location even though on the river is on the far side (next time we would try to get more closer to the Duomo) since we ended up spending over 160 bucks on cabs needlessly (most of the tours start from the train station and its around 14 euros each way). Even when we were walking it was an additional mile from Ponte vecchio ... Now most people might be okay with this, but we were already walking 5-8 miles a day at least and didn't need additional 2-3 miles just to get back to the hotel or from dinner .... Again if you are okay with extra 3 miles a day ...this should not bother you.

Room Tip: Try to get the rooms on the top and facing the back (for less noise).

Overall the location and public areas of this hotel deserve 5 stars. Unfortunately I stayed in a single room and it was below the standard of the rest of the hotel. No magnifying mirror as stated in room details and the hairdryer was of very poor quality, the shower cubicle was claustrophobic. The bed and linen was very good and of high quality. The breakfast was excellent and plentiful although they were keen to clear the table. The staff at the front desk were very helpful and polite, the barman though, was slow and rude. Also no coffee making facility in the room which I found odd. I would return to this hotel with no hesitation.

We stayed here for 3 nights with a child and a toddler in a superior triple room with a view - and we absolutely loved it! The large window opens up where you can see Santa Croce, the Duomo and Palazzo Vecchio - just a beautiful way of seeing Florence upon waking up or before going to bed.
The breakfast selection was extensive, with baked fresh apples being my favorite. The room was beautiful and its size was adequate.
What we loved most about this hotel was the walk back. After seeing Florence and being at piazzas all day, we would walk towards the Arno River, turn left and walk all the way to this hotel. The views accross the river, including the Boboli Gardens, was priceless.

I stayed for 3 nights at this hotel, which is overlooking the Arno river. It is only a few minutes walk to the Santa Croce church and about 10mins from the Dumo and 7mins to the Uffezzi along the riverside road, so very convenient, yet just off the main tourist hub. Very friendly and helpful staff, especially the concierge, a fountain of knowledge. Rooms comfortable, airy, and very clean. Breakfast has a great choice of fresh fruits, cereals, yoghurt, ham, chesses, pastries, the yummiest, creamiest scrambled eggs I've ever eaten, sausage, ( spicy) and Italian bacon. A selection of teas, including herbal ones, coffee, or if you prefer you can order cappucino from the waiters. There are also 3 kinds of fruit juices, bottled water and if you want to indulge .....sparking wine ! I would also recommend visiiting the Baldino restaurant, by the Santa Croce church, ( just off the square itself) excellent meals, we went there twice. I would recommend prebooking to visit the Uffezi and Accademia as the general unreserved queues we noticed, were quite long even at 845am.

We had four nights at the Hotel Lucchesi in April to celebrate our wedding anniversary. A taxi dropped us outside the door but you can get the No. 23 bus if you can find the bus stop.

The hotel was quite grand and the staff were attentive and helpful and spoke excellent English. The room was small but very clean with the sheets and towels changed every day. We had an amazing view over the Arno and beyond. The dining room was large and airy with a good choice of food for breakfast. The location of the hotel was very convenient for shops, restaurants and sightseeing, being just down the road from the Uffizi and the Ponte Vecchio.

Overall this was a very pleasant experience and we enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the river.

There`s not much not to like about this hotel. It`s a good 4 star standard in an excellent location, right by the river and round the corner from San Croce and a short walk to the centre of the city and about 20 mins or so walk from the train and bus stations.

The hotel perhaps slighly flatters to deceive when first arriving in that the reception area and public parts of the building are perhaps rather more swish than the decor of the rooms themselves but then that`s not unusual for many hotels

The recption staff were efficient and polite.Check-in and check-out were easy and fast.My only gripe when checking in is the old Lee Evans joke where he mentions it`s all too common that you cart your suitcases all round the world but once you arrive at your hotel a porter wants to wheel the cases a few steps into and out of a lift and then expect a £5 tip.We had that respose from our porter who seemed not to be impressed when I failed to tip him for wheeling my case their last 3 yards of a journey of a thousand miles that I`d wheeled them and carried them!

Our room,206,was clean,a good size for European hotel rooms, comfortable bed, furnished with a couple of comfortable chairs and a terrific view of the Arno and Michaelangelo square in the distance.Only downer about the room was the road outside does get busy and can be noisy if you leave the windows open at night.
The room had a safe, easy to operate, and a reasonably well stocked mini-bar(pricey of course). The TV was small but quite modern and had an English language news channel. It was supposed to have a radio function too but I couldn`t work that out. That`s no doubt just me.

No tea or coffee making facilities of course but few Italian hotels do have in my experience.
The bathroom was perhaps a bit dated(but that`s really being picky) but spacious enough with a narrow bath and over bath shower. It all worked fine and no problems with the hot water supply.Toiletries and towels were adequate for our 3 night stay.
Breakfast was in a reasonably large dining area, tables not too close together so enough privacy. The selection of food was good.Plenty of fruit and fruit juices, pastries, cereals, cold meats and cheeses and some hot food including scrambled eggs and bacon. It was buffet style and set us up for the day.
Limited free newspapers were available but the only English language one was International Herald Tribune but was useful to browse over breakfast.
The public lounge area was large and this merged into the bar.It was a good place to sit and relax with a beer or cocktail at the end of a busy day siteseeing or before venturing out for a meal(incidentally if you want to splurge a bit on a great meal try Fellinis, short walk, great food and service. The tasting menu was excellent). The internet in the lobby was temperamental so for a business trip this would have been a pain, but for us was great because it meant we were discouraged from using it so were able to break free of its invidious grip for a few days.Just like old times!
Florence obviously has lots of hotels and most are ,like all Tuscany, ridiculously over-priced but ,set against the others in Florence of a similar standard and price,I`d go back here and would recommend to family and friends.
