“Convenient, bit out of town / close to Airport.”
Reviewed 16 August 2013

First about my rating.
I could only choose between 'average' and 'very good'.

The Golden Tulip Hotel is centainly far better than 'average', but I am sure that there might be better 'very good' options in Florence.
We were travelling by car, so the Golden Tulip seemed to be one of the best options.
Car park is private, big enough and completely free.
The hotel is located 3 KM / 2 miles North of the town centre, but has excellent bus connections to there. Busses run every 10-20 minutes, the trip to the central Railway station takes 10-15 min. The hotel also sells bus tickets.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
Rooms were okay, what you might expect from a 4-star hotel, although some maintenance would be advisable.
But everything was working perfectly. Even the capacity of the room controlled AC was more than sufficient for the hot Summer day.
Although the small wooden stool in the bathroom was really shebby (advise for GT: Replace these items with new steel or plastic ones, they should not cost more than € 5).
Breakfast was relly good, a wide variety of items, nothing to remark.

My daughter and I stayed here in 2011 for five memorable days, but not in a good way! I can see from the other reviews that things have not changed at all, although we made it quite clear all we had gone thru during our terrible stay. We have never stayed anywhere where we were so happy to leave. We now read reviews just for laughs, as it brings back all the awfulness of our experience. The topper was the house repair man coming to our room with a rag and a tool, saying "I've come to get rid of the stinky". From the visitor comments, it hasn't worked thus far!!

Dear Guest,
it's too easy write and repeat after 2 years the comments of the other guests regarding our hotel.
Probably you don't know about our renewal in progress from last year. So, if it will be possible please come back in Florence, I think it will be easy to exceed your expectations.
with regards
Cosimo Martina

Basically I am a Travel Agent and conducting tours to All Over the World. I have stayed all kind of Hotels in Many countries and never be like this. I stayed with my Group on 23 April 2013 and told by Hotel Staff that A/c's are switched off because of Winter Season. Everybody knows April is Spring Season in Italy and the outside temperature is more than 25 Degrees. So we are advised to open the Balcony Windows and later in the night somebody entered in our room and we found our Valuable things are stolen. I never ever seen or heard in any kind of hotels that somebody entered in the room to steal your things. I strongly believe without the help of Hotel staffs this incident won't happen. When we report to the Hotel Staffs they are not ready to listen and not cooperative. We wasted our time and Money. Please Please do not stay in this hotel and this Golden Tulip Chain of Hotels.................

Not so good attitude by the staff,no internet at all. The rooms need an urgent renew. The breakfast was ordinary. The trash bin in the room was full, the maid didn't clean the room at all......at the balcony i found a surprise also.

What can I say? Our holiday started by arguing about room allocation & ended about paying some local tax, when our travel agent confirmed all fees to be included in the price.

The receptionist ( I think her name was Rene) always hinted at getting tips for anything we asked-like changing towels or local bus tickets that were sold at the hotel-.

The room interior looked like a prison cell with high windows. It also had a foul smell & very noisy plumbing works. It had no bath, only a shower.

This hotel should never be classed as 4 star. Two stars would be more of a compliment. They still have the old fashioned tv that we could not get to work anyway.

Our only consolation was 'PizzaMan' Restaurant which is 2 minutes walk. We had some excellent food there every night of our stay & the staff are very friendly and well English speaking.

I would not recommend this hotel to my worst enemy.

We stayed there for a couple of days, the hotel offers a basic setup but it's clean and food is nice. Staff was very polite and solved a reservation problem we had with a restaurant. We were a little disappointed by the reviews but it turned out fine. We stayed there from 3rd to 5th may 2013.

We stayed as a group of 25 over night in the hotel for one night.
Rooms on the first floor do not have bars in the windows.
Because of lack of Ac we were adviced to leave the window open. In the night we had theft in 2 rooms with loss of cash, phone & camera.
The hotel staff where noncooperative not believing over version.
We informed the police who were also unhelpfull.
If you are stuck in the hotel avoid 1 st floor.
Kindly avoid this hotel. ....this is the 1 st time i am saying this about a hotel.
