“Bitterly Disappointed”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2014

After choosing the Boscolo Astoria Florence for a special occasion was bitterly disappointed with service and food. Additionally had 15+ room card changes as the door had faulty locking device Staff said wld fix but never did. Rooftop good but service again poor. Was expected to pay Eur 3.50 for hot water for tea making that WE had to go to kitchens to collect ourselves. Aggressive waiter staff said wld not deliver. NEVER will stay there again - don't bother!!!

Room Tip: Don't go there is the best tip

Had the pleasure to spend 5 days at this hotel this past June.

The good.

The place is conveniently located next to all of the major sites and the train station.

The staff is very helpful

The Bad,

They only have WIFI in the lobby. At times the place looks like a starbucks.

Avoid the eggs and meats at breakfast as they're not that good

The bed in our room was very hard and cause both my wife and I to have major backaches

Room Tip: make sure you do not get a room that is close to the elevator as you will have people waiting outsid...

Like everyone else is saying this hotel is great. The staff helpful and the rooftop bar and restaurant is a delight. Wonderful views of Florence from here. It is central to everything and you can get a bus tour to all the sites around florence from the railway station which is about 5 minutes walk away. The only thing that lets it down is the breakfast. It is not that great . Shame as everything else is fantastic. If only they would upgrage the food for breakfast then it would score a lot higher with me and it seems with a lot of other people on here. But saying that I would definitely recommend this hotel.

This was my daughter's first trip to Europe and I tried to get a hotel that was central to all the wonders Florence has to offer and the Boscolo was a great choice! We were within a 10 to 15 minute walk from everything! The staff was very accommodating. The hotel itself reflects the art of the city.

Room Tip: Very close to attractions, and good restaurants.

All I can say about this place is that it was amazing. The staff were so wonderful and helpful. Food great. Room great. The bar on the top floor overlooking Florence was a delight. Walking distance to the main sites. Highly recommended.

Close to several attractions, lots of restaurants, cafés to choose from starting directly across the street.Older hotel,if need rooms with elevator suggest you ask as we were in section with stairs to access rooms,no hand rails on beautiful marble staircases, rooms all very different, ours was bigger than others on tour, king bed, tubs VERY deep, not user friendly if you have mobility issues. My spouse had back issues and staff assisted to have doctor come to room to treat and offered to change our room to elevator floor which fortunately we did not require after a day resting in bed with meds.City is easy to walk to most attractions or use hop on hop off bus.If ever in this area again would stay here.Breakfast was included, but not the greatest so we opted to go around to cafe nearby as had great coffee, breakfast items.

Room Tip: Ask for room with elevator if mobility issues and bath mat for tub as VERY deep and slippery.

My husband and I and another couple stayed at Boscolo Hotel Astoria for 4 days in mid May, and we had an overall great experience. The hotel is centrally located to many of the top siteseeing attractions, it's clean, and the room was a great size and very pretty. The staff was always very helpful and pleasant. Luigi, as well as the others at the front desk, were awesome! Breakfast was included and was a perfect start to the day with good variety. Wifi available only in the lobby area but no big deal. Local restaurant recommendations were great, like Trattoria Garga and La Giostra (reservations needed for both). Would recommend hotel to anyone and would stay there again.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Hotel Boscolo Astoria Firenze is the ideal choice for your stay: you'll be accommodated in the rooms of the Palazzo Gaddi and Palazzo Arrighetti, historic buildings belonging to noble Florentine families, where art recounts the passage of centuries every step of the way. Indeed, it was while living at Palazzo Gaddi that the great English author John Milton found inspiration for his masterpiece, Paradise Lost, and in these very rooms that he wrote it. The noble past of Hotel Boscolo Astoria Firenze is also reflected in its location: the church of Santa Maria Novella, abounding in great art, is right nearby (as is the convenient railway station with the same name), and a short stroll will take you directly to Florence's historic centre. An undeniable advantage that puts the most beautiful areas of the city right at your fingertips. The prestigious salons of the luxury Hotel Boscolo Astoria Firenze, decorated in original Florentine Baroque style, are the perfect backdrop for important events. The restaurant will pamper you with typical Tuscany and Mediterranean dishes. ... more   less
