“Good hotel mix of old and new near train station”
Reviewed 15 September 2012

I stayed here on a business trip and would have stayed longer but the hotel was full. I think its used a lot for business and tourists so it stays busy. It is very near the train station but they don't really give you directions so I had to ask someone..if you leave the train station, turn right and then bear right next to the arches of the church...that will take you to the SMN piazza..if you turn right but bear left, you will miss it. Anyway, this is a nice hotel..the furnishings were styled as "distressed" but functional. Bed was comfortable. Wifi was free and adequate (some difficulties with streaming like for Skyping but very good for email/ surfing etc). I really enjoyed the restaurant. It had one of the best service that I have experienced in Italy...very attentive and includes a free glass of champagne..a nice way to start dinner. The food was excellent too so I felt no need to have to roam around the city looking for someplace to eat. There is a lovely rooftop pool- I was brave enough to swim in but it is not heated!! The view is spectacular, just like you see on the website.

We stayed here in June for four nights with our three children. The location was ideal, easy walking distance to everything you want to see. Even better, the pool was a splendid way to relax at the end of a long day of touring. We could have cocktails and enjoy the view while the kids got their energy out in the pool. Absolutely ideal for a family.

We stayed in Florence for three days during very hot weather and found the hotel, the staff and the pool all amazing. The air conditioning didn't cope with 38 degress but it didn't in most places. The staff were very friendly and the facilities great. Breakfast was lovely and it was even easy to get our rental car there.

The hotel is in an excellent location for tourists. Close to the train station and within walking distance of all the main attractions. Always look for the Duomo as your guide. There are many narrow streets and it's easy to get confused/lost.
Stay away from the restaurants in the Santa Maria Novella Square...most of them are too pricey (including the one in the Hotel Grand Minerva).
The further you walk away from the Square the better the prices and the quality of food.
The Staff are very friendly and try very hard to meet your needs.
At breakfast- ask for Cappuccino (unless you like their American coffee).
The hotel room was small but clean and the bathrooms are very European (bring washcloths).
The Internet is free (but the service wasn't working the two times we tried it).
Overall, I'd say it was a nice hotel but I would try other hotels if I went back.

Room Tip: We were given a room overlooking the main square (but the shutters were hard to open). Live music is...

Dear Guest,
Thank you for choosing our property for your stay in Florence and for reviewing us. A special thanks for pointing our staff’s attitude towards our guests. Let me just add a couple of things.
At breakfast we serve any kind of coffee: cappuccino, latte, American coffee but also Italian espresso. Please accept my apologies if any misunderstanding has arisen during your stay.
Regarding our restaurant, I really would not consider it as expensive: we have a lunch set menu at 19.50 euros for two courses including, water, coffee and a glass of wine, while at dinner the set menus start at 29.50 euros. All our dishes are prepared on site starting from the basic ingredients and served in a nice location, also alfresco in the summer time, by a highly professional staff.
Internet is free and usually working very well: it needs a password and sometimes some help from our staff if your device is set in the “do not allow pop-ups”-mode, for instance. In any case I would like TripAdvisor users to know that we also have two free Internet points which our guests can use any time of the day.
Washcloths: we have some stock at the hotel and we provide them upon request. In every bathroom there is a small card informing that you can contact reception in case you need extra toiletries, including toothbrush and paste, razors, combs and so on, all of them on a complimentary basis. I am sorry if this was not clear enough.
I truly hope you will reconsider your opinion and give us a second chance for your next visit to Florence.

With my best regards,
Filippo Burroni

I stayed there for 3 nights. Comparing with other hotels I stayed in Italy. This hotel provided best services and values. Reception staffs are helpful and friendly to English-speaking customer. A variety of choices at breakfast. Clean room and spacious. My favorite is roof-top pool! Awesome view of the city! Located close to railway station, which is convenient. After midnight, avoid small streets close to the station. As long as you stay around plaza or streets towards the Duomo are always safe. Great experience, will stay there again.

My entire family two grown children and wife visited my younger daughter studying abroad in Florence. We started our trip in Rome and ended here. It was everything the brochures said it was with a great location to the train, ristoranti and simple sightseeing and people watching. The staff was outstanding.

Room Tip: The front room overlooking the square are charming and offer an excellent view of Florence culture.
