Without a doubt, the most impressive hotel I've ever stayed in. Perfectly renovated charming old building, filled with interesting things to look at. It's spotlessly clean, from the common areas right though to the rooms. The location can't be beat, within walking distance of everything Florence has to offer.

Our room was a junior suite, 20 foot high ceiling, huge comfortable bed, spotlessly clean modern bathroom, plenty of storage closets, and best of all, hard hygienic flooring, no disgusting carpeting.

Excellent buffet breakfast, filled with fresh fruit, cereals, pastries, eggs, meats, etc. You'll want for nothing. Staff is friendly and helpful, they really seem to enjoy working at the Porta Rossa.

We took almost as many photos of this hotel as we took of the city, It's that great.

This is the best hotel. I came here with my wife on our honeymoon and they treated us like gold. Nothing was too much for them to do with courtesy and grace. It is ideally situated in Florence, and the hotel staff did everything from booking restaurants, finding tours, to calling a doctor for my wife. The hotel is gorgeous and breakfast is simply outstanding. I'm talking fresh squeezed OJ, cappuccino, tasty sausages, cream filled pastries etc.

If you are willing to pay, get the junior suite, well worth the money!!!

This should be one of the hotels that you consider if you're staying in Florence for a number of reasons:
1) Close to the airport, £20 taxi ride from Peretola (Florence)
2) Close to all the sights, Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, Uffizi, Academia etc
3) Close to the main shopping streets
4) Great staff and service

The only minor downside is that it does not have a restaurant attached for evening meals although in Florence and given this hotels location this is not a major problem as there are plenty of places to eat in Florence.

The main benefits of this hotel are the location and the staff. Taking the latter first, the staff help in everyway possible right through to booking you good slots at places such as the Uffizi and Academia in adavance, a must if you want to avoid an early morning or a long wait in line or train tickets outside of Florence, in our case a trip to Venice and back.

Secondly the location is perfect. It's just around the corner from the Ponte Santa Trinita so provides great access to the Oltarno district for dinnner, as well as easy walking distance to all the sights. Additionally, its location allows you to return throughout the day between sights to "freshen up", drop stuff off etc.

Whilst this is not the cheapest or perhaps most prestigous hotel in Florence it is certainly one that is highly recommended by this traveller and his partners and I'd urge you to add this to your list of hotels to consider.

This hotel, which is reputedly the oldest hotel in Florence (dating back to the Renaissnce) was refurbished by the NH group last year (Easter 2010) and we stayed for a week just after it had re-opened. We returned for two weeks this Easter and had a wonderful time - the room (a mini-suite) was delightful, the staff were very helpful and freindly, The position is excellent, as you can easily return if you need to and you are an easy walk from everything - if you know Florence it is just behind the Strozzi. I always recommend NH hotels in any case and this one is particularly good. The only niggle is that at peak breakfast time there is sometimes a small wait for a table, but this is not a major issue as breakfast runs to 11.00.

Absolutely loved this hotel. Gorgeous with so much charm, yet the recent renovations made it perfectly modern and comfortable. Location was perfect--super-quick walk to all the city center sights and the wonderful restaurants in the Oltrarno. Staff was wonderful (provided maps, gladly made dinner reservations for us, etc.), breakfast was very nice too (served in a gorgeous, airy room). Wi-fi available for free in the comfortable lobby. No down sides here--just go!
