“Great location at a resonable price”
Reviewed 26 February 2013

We staied in this hotel for 2 nights I apreciated the low peice and the confortable location. it is in Piazza della Repubblica just half way between the Cathedral and Piazza della Signoria. The view from the dining room is great.
Unfortunately the furnishings date back to the '80 and the bathroom is very poor without a real shower box... but the price is very low for the great location and the staff is friendly and helpful. just one more advice: ask to avoid room n. 15 as it is very close to the loundry and dudring the night it's too noisy (we asked to move in another room to the staff and they pleased us kindly.

Firstly, this is a fairly old hotel. One look at the lift, like something out of a silent movie, confirmed this. Once you get there, it takes a bit of work to find reception. They're up on the fifth floor, accessible via the creaky old lift. Once we found where to check in, things progressed fairly smoothly. The hotel shares this building with several offices, consulting rooms and a B&B.Our room was one floor down, on the forth floor. The room was fairly spacious, but had no view. Well, it had a view of a dirty, rather smelly narrow back alley behind the building.

Bathroom was a reasonable size, but yet another weird shower arrangement, where a curtain enclosed a portion of the floor space but didn't quite keep all the water in. All in all the room was comfortable but a bit tired looking.

Location was exceptional, with the Piazza della Republica just outside the hotel doors, and everything else within easy walking distance. Staff were a bit more reserved than usual, but helpful enough when asked for advice, directions etc. Breakfast was fairly basic with a heavy bent towards all things sweet. They had a push button coffee machine that was a bit of a novelty, especially on our second morning when the plumbing came loose and milk came gushing out of places it shouldn't.

Probably the most important thing to consider about this place is that it is a three star hotel. As such you shouldn't expect five star facilities. The Olimpia fulfils its three star status admirably. It's just that; and no more. It's great value for money in a great central location.

Room Tip: Try to get a room at the front

Good central location but accommodation basic, ok for 1 or 2 nights. Breakfast again basic (no hot food, only savoury item was cream cheese)hot drinks, cereal, cakes and criossants.
Only noise was from other guests!
Entrance via lift to 4th floor

This hotel was an absolute gem. Right in the heart of Florence, it has great views, if you get the rooms on the square, and it is such easy access. The staff were so incredibly friendly and kind and nothing was any trouble. This is saying something given that we were a school group and sometimes we are not always welcomed by hotels, in spite of our kids being quite well behaved. The rooms were good given the age of the hotel. They were kept exceptionally clean and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was abundant and delicious. There was something for all tastes. If the proprietors would take us back on another visit, we would not hesitate to return to the Hotel Olimpia. Wonderful!

This hotel is in a great location. 5 mins walk distance to other important touristic attractions. Hotel front desk service is terrible. If you drive. Keep in mind there is no free street parking. Overnight parking is 26 euro.

Great location from which to explore Florence. Clean, spacious rooms. Friendly staff. The breakfast was really good, plus the view outside the breakfast room is impressive. This was my second time in Florence and I was very pleased with Hotel Olimpia.

We stayed in Hotel Olympia for 3 nights. It was a terrible experience. It started with the reception man, he was so rude, shouting with no reason. The room was small and stuffy. The view from the window is sewerage pipes and a brick wall. Later, The shower didn't work. a few drops of water hardly came out... not such a nice experience on vacation. When we asked for help, they said they will fix it after we leave. when we asked for a small compensation they almost bit our heads off. one could see that this is just the way this shower is and they will never fix it. off course, they didn't provide an alternative room.

Be wise and stay away!
The location is great, but there are many hotels around very close by. The walking distance is very short from most hotels to the centre of the old city.
I can't believe the other positive reviews. I think the hotel manager wrote those positive reviews, there is no other explanation.
They don't bother to tell you that you can't bring your car into the old city (not even just to bring your bags/suitcases into the hotel, and then park outside of the old city). bring your car and you will be fined 100 Euros. So even the location isn't so great.
Stay away! And enjoy Florence 
