As nearly every reviewer notes, this is about as good a location as you can get in central Florence, no matter what you pay. It's not a five-star luxury facility, but it's pretty much no more than a block or three from any of the places most tourists would want to visit in the city. If you arrive by train and don't have too much luggage, it's a not-unreasonable hike from the station. A cab for two with luggage is about E10-12, & will get you to within a few steps of the door. You don't need to call a cab and wait when leaving, as there are always some at what seems to be a pickup point at the opposite corner of the piazza (where Florence's Hard Rock Cafe is located, by the way).

Your perception of how good a value this hotel is may depend on what rate you get. We were able to get three days in late July, 2012, booked a little less than a month prior, for $80/night & found a 10% off code for hotels.com to use as well. This made it a bargain for us. We got a less expensive "interior" room, at the end of the hall, with a window opening onto a space between buildings, but this was fine with us. If you get a room in Firenze so you can spend your time staring out the window...well, what can I say? You also might keep in mind that Florence is a city that stays up late, so having a window opening on the noisy piazza or street might not be the most restful location.

Our room was fairly spacious, high-ceilinged, and pleasantly decorated. The wifi (E5/day extra, if you want it) worked well, & even better, so did the AC! We liked the fact that the floor was cool, clean tile rather than carpet. It had the same unusual "bathroom is the shower" setup noted by other reviewers...odd (especially, since they could have put in a small shower enclosure and dropped the bidet) but it was clean, all tile, and did have a curtain. I've seen considerably worse in Europe. The elevator is retro, but serviceable, and sure beats the alternative of dragging luggage up four flights of stairs.

As in more hotels in Italy these days, breakfast has moved beyond the "coffee and hard roll" that used to be the norm. While there were no meats or hot foods offered here, they had a good selection of breads, spreads, cereal, pastries, fruit & etc., and a convenient coffee machine that provided a variety of choices.

Lastly, we never seem to encounter the "rude and inconsiderate" staff that some reviewers always complain about. We dealt with several different people at the Olimpia, and all were helpful and accommodating. Maybe you get what you give, attitude-wise...especially in Italy.

Room Tip: Book a less expensive interior room if you want to avoid the noise and light of very late-night Florence.

The hotel is located in the middle of the tourist areas. The service was excellent and helpful. The room was of a good size. The only criticism was that we asked for a double bed but got 2 single beds that were pushed together. This was uncomfortable if you happened to roll onto this part of the bed. Breakfast was good and had variety.

I went to this hotel with my school and we rested out the whole hotel. Alot of my classmates got sick but they hotel took great care of them. They also made the beds like how your mother would. I got hurt in the city and the staff took great care of my cuts they helped me clean up the blood and gave me a bandage

The hotel is located in a corner building in the PIazza Della Repubblica. However, to get to the hotel you must take an old fashioned elevator up to the fifth floor. They were very kind and accomodating. The rooms are simple and basic, but quite comfortable. The room was actually pretty spacious. We had a small balcony that looked out onto the street and you could see part of the Duomo. The location is perfect, close to all major museums, attractions etc.

Breakfast is simple, coffee, cake, pastries but it was free. You must pay for wifi on a 24 hr. service. If you don't need it, you don't have to pay.

My only complaint was with the shower. If you sat on the toilet your feet were on the shower drain. There was a shower curtain, but no sort of raised shower. It creates quite a mess on the floor.

However, having never traveled abroad and not sure what to expect I was quite happy.

We staied in this hotel for 2 nights I apreciated the low peice and the confortable location. it is in Piazza della Repubblica just half way between the Cathedral and Piazza della Signoria. The view from the dining room is great.
Unfortunately the furnishings date back to the '80 and the bathroom is very poor without a real shower box... but the price is very low for the great location and the staff is friendly and helpful. just one more advice: ask to avoid room n. 15 as it is very close to the loundry and dudring the night it's too noisy (we asked to move in another room to the staff and they pleased us kindly.
