“Florence at its best”
Reviewed 20 April 2014

How many hotels are there in Florence? Hundreds, at least - and some of them are pretty dire. So when you find an exceptionally good one, you go back (and you recommend it to your friends). We've stayed at Il Guelfo Bianco three times and will stay there again; and the friends we've sent there have all fallen in love with this superb little hotel.
The location is ideal, a couple of hundred metres from the Duomo (which is visible from several of the rooms) and Florence's wonderful markets. The rooms are great, with comfortable beds, good furnishings - even the olive oil soap is terrific! - the architecture is charming and quirky; the staff are friendly, helpful and genuinely caring (for our last visit a few weeks ago, Antonella put us in the room we'd stayed in on our first visit four years ago); and Il Des o, the tiny bistrot next door, does brilliant meals.
Il Guelfo Bianco is a gem.

We spent 4 nights here on our first visit to Florence, a delightful hotel with good decor being an interesting mix old antique furniture and modern art- it works very well. All staff are helpful, friendly and knowledgeable, making choosing places oaf interest and restaurants very easy. The organic food is worth a mention too. We wish this hotel success and will be returning there when next we visit Florence.

Very nice hotel just 2 minutes walk from the Duomo. It is a very nice and clean property with very friendly front office staff. Even the dinning room staff is very nice and helpful. They help me plan my visit to Pisa as well.

The breakfast is nice as well. We enjoyed our stay there and I would recommend my friends there.

Well run, clean, good breakfast, good location. I can only think of two drawbacks.

Street noise. Inescapable in most Italian cities, so it is with Florence. While they have triple pane windows, you still get some noise coming through on street fronted rooms. If your the kind of person looking for cool night air with open windows, the noise goes late and starts early.

Odd floors. There are half floors that has the elevator dropping you off with a half set of stairs to be negotiated. If you have walking issues or a lot of baggage, just be ware.

Neither of my drawbacks should have you overlooking this fine establishment.

Dear Mylze2go,

thanks for your review. we are happy you appreciated the cleaning, location and our breakfast.
Regarding two drabacks:

1) our hotel is located right in the city center, Via Cavour is the main Street to get to Duomo square . It's 70% pedestrian Street but30% is open to the traffic people who have to get hotels, people who have special authorizations can drive along this Street. We have double windows and triples glasses and if you keep them closed there are not noises at all. As you write if people like to keep the window open you can hear some noises. Never forget that Florence is a very touristic city and its' not a lovely town in the countryside. However we think its' much better to leave the choice to open the windows. I stayed in several hotels especially abroad where you cannot open the windows and I was a bit upset about it. However on my opinion the rooms overlooking Via Cavour are the nicest and largest that we have. If people prefer to leave the Windows open we try to assign rooms on the back side but during the high season where the hotel is booked up it's not Always possible. The hotel is hosued in two late 15th century buildings and rooms are all different in size and position. Trust me to assign the rooms sometims it's a veru hard job (in fact I am very good to play to Sudoku !)

2) As I already wrote above the hotel is housed in two antique palaces and we did a very good job leaving the origianl architectures and all the antique walls and antiques stairs. Thi sis even our plus! However when people arrive or leave and they need help for luggages we are always available. It is so easy to ask our help .

Well I really hope to welcome you again in the future and I would like to wish a lovely Happy Easter to all of you. we love you all and we are happy to read all your nice reviews and all your nice suggestions.

Best regards.

We just spent three nights in Florence at this hotel. We could not have been more pleased. It's just a ten minute walk to everything in town. The rooms are very large and comfortable for Europe. Breakfast was a very nice continental spread. What really sets this hotel apart was the service. Everyone there bent over backwards to help us. Julie at the front desk made great suggestions regarding places to eat and best walking routes, too. We definitely recommend Il Guelfo Bianco.

We stayed for 8 nights and would have stayed longer if we could. The location is perfect, close to everything. The front desk staff was extremely helpful and answered any questions we had. We loved the breakfasts which was very plentiful and delicious. We booked a bike tour through the hotel and were so happy we did. Fillipo was great! We definitely would recommend this hotel to everyone.
