The hotel stay was booked through a tour company. Realizing the hotel is older, I was still disappointed. The wallpaper was peeling, the towel bar in the bathroom was falling off and the baseboards appeared to have not been cleaned. The breakfast was very good. The location was good. I would not recommend this hotel based on above reasons.

DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL! I booked my stay at the hotel 5 months in advance and upon arrival at the set check-in time I was turned away as the hotel had over booked and sent to another hotel away from all my family and friends - not great when you are a lone female!

I complained to the central customer service and they were more useless than the hotel!

Stay here at your own peril!

Room Tip: If you want to choose a good room, stay at another hotel!

This hotel has good location:
- slightly away from the centre but in a walking distance
- quiet since it's in a residential area
- very close to the train station
- near the river

The bed is fabulous.

The staff is excellent, very friendly and helpful.
The breakfast is great as well with a wide variety of foods.

We stayed four nights at this hotel having booked a twin in case the beds turned out to be small. On arrival the receptionist sent us - with our case and bags! - on what turned out to be a wild-goose chase to view a dingy room that turned out to contain only a small double despite our having pointed out that we'd booked a twin. Having already told us about the optional additional €10 per night upgrade he must surely have known that we'd come scurrying back! And we did. This was not the sort of runaround we needed having just travelled cattle-class on Easyjet and by train from Pisa! He then personally showed us three further rooms. Our hearts began to sink when we were shown a so-called "mini-suite" on 2 or 3 floors with tiny rooms and filthy, worn stair carpets. Then we were shown the standard twin bedroom that we should have been allocated in the first place and lastly a superior room described as a deluxe which attracted the afore-mentioned supplement. Lovely, spacious elegant room with classical repro furnishings, it was a no-brainer. We took it. Thereafter everything ran smoothly. Efficient house-keeping with sheets and towels changed after two days. Good quality Italian breakfast with very attentive staff. Shock horror with the coffee though and in Italy of all places. This came from a Nescafé (yes a Nescafé not even a Nespresso) machine with nasty, granulated stuff - awful! However I happened to notice that their tea bags were Taylors of Harrogate no less, so I asked the ever-obliging Alessandra to find us a tea-pot from somewhere and honour was immediately restored. We had decent tea just as we do at home! Yes, it may be fair to say that this hotel is looking a bit tired in places but with its magnificent chandeliers and an elegant fin-de-siècle lobby it was still possible to conjure up the splendour of a byegone, more gracious era. We noted that the hotel is also used by Alitalia crew.

Selected by our tour company for the three-night start to a tour of Tuscany, the NH Anglo American Hotel provided the quiet, clean safe atmosphere desired by travelers who love walking the streets of historic Florence, Italy. Slightly further from the Duomo area than hotels on two previous trips, we felt safe walking the distances along the Arno two blocks from the hotel and the interior route, as we learned it, and enjoyed this oasis of classic, elegant but not pretentious comfort in the evening. A king-size bed provided some of the best nights of sleep on the trip. The spotless, roomy bathroom and ample closet space were perfect except for a closet safe that was not functioning. I loved greeting the morning by examining the sky after opening the shutters of the large windows. A daily sumptuous breakfast with a choice for every palette, gave the energy to walk and gawk until a light mid-afternoon lunch.
The lobby/reception area provided several areas of deeply cushioned living-room like seating, both indoors and on the umbrella topped patio, conducive to relaxed conversation. A bar was available. What a great place to start a trip with a small tour group like ours! If I were planning an independent return to Florence, I would definitely consider the NH Anglo American Hotel!

Room Tip: Rooms with windows out to the interior patio were quieter in the early morning than those on the str...

This hotel is very well located, near the train station and near the river, it's walking distance from everything. The staff is very nice, always trying to help. Breakfast is good and rooms are clean and not so small as you usually expect on european hotels. I would definitively arrive there again, and don't miss the bar, they have excellent paninis.
