My daughter selected this hotel as the base hotel for her wedding guests. How lucky we were with such an excellent choice. The facilities were ideal for the large number and so convenient for visiting sites throughout the city and for restaurants. The staff were exceptional - always helpful, friendly and made everyone feel so welcome. Rooms were clean and comfortable with the scent of Jamine wafting in from the terrace each morning. Thank you so much for helping make our stay and wedding such a wonderful experience in Florence.
I would strongly recommend this hotel to any visitor to Florence and particularly as a base hotel for any couple planning a family wedding in Florence.

This hotel was simply excellent from all standpoints. The rooms were exceptional by being large, clean, comfortable, and well decorated. The courtyard, gathering rooms and breakfast area were lovely, and also comfortable. The staff, particularly those at the front desk and the cleaning personnel, were courteous, helpful, attentive, well informed and delightful. I would use this hotel on any return trip to Florence and have already let friends know about it. It is quite conveniently located -- walking distance from Accademia, Duomo, Ptiti Palace, Uffizi Gallery and from train station. Our room was on ground floor. We arrive late but were greeted with chilled wine and a flower. In addition, we had some mild misunderstanding regarding the number of rooms needed and the evening supervisor quickly and calmly accommodated us so that there was no inconvenience.

I loved this hotel and not only because they upgraded us to a Junior Suite from a Garden Room for our 25th anniversary.
The terrace where we had breakfast and where we enjoyed an evening beer was beautiful. There were jasmine vines growing everywhere and the smell was wonderful. The breakfast was typical and good and the cappuccino was great. They have a happy hour from 6 to 8 PM and a voucher for a free drink. Use it and sit on the lounge chairs and enjoy the roses and jasmine.
Our room was excellent. We were located just before the doors to the garden and we had a sitting area with a window that opened up to the garden. There does not seem to be an issue regarding bugs in Italy and windows can be left open for fresh air and to enjoy the jasmine fragrance.
We had a king size bed that was very comfortable. We had a walk-in closet and a huge bathroom. The bathroom was beautifully tilled with a shower, a toilet room, two sinks and a long soaker tub which I used every night as my feet were extremely sore.
We arrived mid morning from our overnight flight from Montreal, Canada and only had to wait a short time for our room to be available for us. This was wonderful and we are very grateful because we slept for a few hours and were able to do some site seeing on our very first day in Florence, Italy. Granted, we were asleep by 8:30 PM that night and slept soundly until 7:30 AM the next morning. But then we were over any jet lag.
The hotel is located close to Piazza San Marco where all the buses meet up for transfers. So if you have a Florence Card, you can walk to San Marco square and catch the correct bus.
Before we traveled to Italy, the Hotel Orto De Medici staff were very helpful via email. I was trying to figure out if we should purchase the Florence Card and they helped and were able to order cards to have waiting at the hotel for us.

Dear guest, you are lucky to have your anniversary to celebrate in such a nice period, when all the flowers blossom and the jasmine spreads its scent. I am so glad to read you enjoyed your recent stay, and we could make it more memorable with a free upgrade in Junior Suite.. it is a very special occasion,! Thanks for also leaving your appreciation about the staff, the room, the Music Bar and the location.

Large clean room. Weak AC took several hours to cool room. Single person sit-down tub with poor water pressure, where similarly ranked hotels on our trip had modern shower/bath set-up. Ice not always available. Besides being clean expected much more based on ranking and price.

We are sorry for your disappointment. In those days we had an exceptional heat called "Caronte", so some A/C machines suffered a bit in refreshing properly the rooms. I really apologize for the inconvenience. Please next time you come let me know, so we will try to offer you an upgrade in a Deluxe room, which is the more modern in fact of comfort.
Thanks nonetheless for your appreciation about the room and the cleaning of the Classic room.

We stayed at the Hotel Orto De Medici in Florence for three nights recently, booking in advance directly with the hotel on the internet. Our room on the ground floor looked onto a quiet courtyard complete with fountain and there was a bottle of chilled sparkling wine on arrival. The accommodation was outstanding with a comfortable bed, two sofas and a massive, luxurious bathroom. The staff were at all times helpful and polite, never failing to acknoweldge us with a hello and smile as we passed through reception. Breakfast was served in an elegant room on the first floor and provided a substantial start to the day. Importantly, the hotel was private and quiet - a blissful respite from the crowds in the historic centre only a few meters away.

Room Tip: The Romantic Junior Suite on the ground floor was elegant, comfortable and quiet

Dear Guest,
I'm thrilled to hear you enjoyed your stay so much. You stayed in the Junior Suite our biggest room! Whomever books the Junior Suite has the advantage of having a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine in the room upon arrival. Thank you for all the nice comments. We hope you get a chance to come visit Florence and us again!

We enjoyed a wonderful four nights in a peaceful haven. Well located just outside the tourist hustle & bustle but within easy waking distance of all the main attractions. The enjoyment of being able to look after their guests in such a wonderful historic home, shines through from the moment you arrive until your departure. The bedrooms are very well attended, and the breakfast and other facilities provided are excellent.
The staff are welcoming and friendly and assisted with museum bookings and restaurant advice.
All in all, a wonderful Home/Hotel. The management and staff can be rightly proud of their home and the service provided to their guests. You will not be disappointed.

On balance we liked this little hotel. It had a charming courtyard and a wonderful little patio area for having an end-of-day drink in a pleasant, relaxed environment. There are two Apple computers in the lobby that can be used for free to access the Internet. The location is convenient to a number of good restaurants and was but a short walk away from some major attractions. Hotel employees were friendly and polite. And, of course, Florence itself is wonderful
The drawbacks, slight though they may be, were in the areas of staff sophistication and room atmosphere. The staff, with but one exception, was very young and it showed. When you asked a question, they seemed somewhat timid, perhaps because they weren't really sure of the answer. The young woman who checked us in was clearly shy and rarely smiled, perhaps again because of uncertainty and inexperience. She was, however, efficient and professional. Generally speaking, the young staff was nice enough and tried to be helpful. The more important drawback was in the way our room was designed and decorated. It was spacious and well furnished but the design was modern and minimalist, giving it a rather cold feel that was oddly out of character with the rest of the hotel and with Florence itself. The floor was natural hardwood and there was almost no color anywhere except for black and white. It was if the designer had designed the room for other designers rather than for weary travelers look for warmth and comfort. The good news is our bed was king-size and comfortable and our bathroom was modern and clean. And the room was air conditioned. There were no "glasses" as such in the room, only "plastics." Then again, this is not five-star hotel so I suppose such skimping is to be expected.
The hotel's public areas are direct opposites of its rooms, meaning they are warm, charming and inviting. In addition to the patio bar area, there is a very nice breakfast area that serves a nice and varied continental buffet spread each morning, complete with good coffee and an assortment of juices. I can't help but wonder if the rooms and the rest of the hotel were designed and decorated by different people with different views.
Be advised that our room may not have been typical for the hotel. It was on the ground floor and had obviously been renovated in the recent past. I was told that other rooms, on other levels, are more traditional and old school.
Don't take this review as a recommendation that you not stay at the Orto De Medici. It really is a nice little hotel with its own brand of Italian charm and the staff is very friendly despite being a bit shy, reserved and tentative at times. It is in many ways a very Italian place, the modern room decorations notwithstanding. Best of all, there is nothing "snooty" about the place.
The hotel was easy to use. Although there was no taxi stand out front, at checkout time a desk clerk quickly called a cab to take us to the train station. The cabbie arrived promptly. The desk was also quick to extend our checkout time upon request. The normal time is 11 a.m., which is a bit early.
Incidentally, the train station is about a 20-minute walk from the hotel for those inclined toward foot power. But be advised that the narrow, busy streets and sidewalks in Florence make carrying or pulling luggage more than a little inconvenient. The cab fare was only 11 euros which to us seemed like a good deal.
We very much enjoyed the Hotel Orto De Medici and would recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable, charming, smaller hotel in a convenient location. Just as long as you don't crave a lot of rich colors in your room.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for the review. I'm happy you enjoyed most aspects of the hotel and would recommend staying with us. We appreciate the minor negative comments they will help us grow professionally. Yes we do have different room styles. In the garden, we have the deluxe rooms that were renovated in 2009. If you enjoy a more classic Florentine style you can book either a Classic room or a Superior room. All the Superior rooms have a balcony that lets you view the rooftops of Florence. In Piazza San Marco, which is a 2 minute walk from the hotel, you can usually find many taxis parked. However, the front desk staff will always help and call taxis for clients. Check-out time is at 11:00 am. Sometimes we have the possibility of extending the time, but if unfortunately we can not extend check-out time we have a room where you can leave your luggage and come back whenever you please to get it.
