“Perfection”
Reviewed 18 October 2010

5 stars for this very special and unique hotel understates its quality. In my 50+ years of traveling, I have had the privilege to stay in many of the best hotels in the world. Few can compare with its overall attention to detail, service, cleanliness, and charm. Its location for touring Florence is perfect. Most of the sights are within walking distance but 5 bus lines stop within a block of the hotel taking you to most places of interest and the train and bus stations. The neighborhood restaurants are wonderful and the staffs' recommendations were impeccable. We spent 10 wonderful days at the Palazzo and plan to return. Kudos to all.

I booked a large suite for my wife and I to celebrate her birthday over three nights in Florence.

Wonderful rooms - as they all are - in reality a more cost effective option would have been a standard bedroom as all the rooms are big i saw.

Lovely breakfast ; good service though not 5* (as other reviwers noted no ice in buckets) but essentially the hotel staff when asked bent over backwards.

lovely breakfast ; again not 5* but very good and lovely relaxed atmopshere.

Go to this hotel/apartments for the atmosphere and grandness of the decor.

We were advised late on the Friday that the terrace would be unavailable on the Saturday evening. As we had not visited it (and it alone is wothy of the booking as it overlooks Florence and is stunning) we missed spending a planned romantic evening on our last night. It is unacceptable that the terrace is made unavailable at short notice as had we known ahead i would have booked somewhere else on the Saturday. Other reviewers have made the same comment i recall.

Overall great hotel good service but disappointing lack of care for guests who pay a premium to make use of the wonderful terrace.

Dear Palazzo Guest,
Thank you for your comment about our Palazzo on the social community network!
As you may see by reading other comments we always try to respond to our guest comments and to explain all mentioned details.
First of all, we are very happy to see that you enjoyed your Florence Palace stay and that you spent a nice and romantic weekend, enjoying your suite, breakfast and our service.
Concerning the ice buckets, that is actually a service that not many accommodation facilities offer on complimentary coffee and tea bars, that are available at the Palace on all Palace floors, might be empty sometimes, that is true. But as explained it is just a complimentary service on all floors and especially during the warm months it is not easy to keep them at all times cold and full, but as you mentioned please just give us a call and the service will immediately bring to your suite ice buckets.
We really want to make clear that this is an extra, complimentary service on the complimentary coffee and tea bars on all floors, but ice buckets for the suites, just advising our reception by a call is furthermore complimentary.
Concerning the terrace, it is really a pity that it was closed during your last evening. Again it seems like incredible, but in 8 years, since the Palace was opened for the first time, we had two evenings of difficulties concerning the terrace, and these two evenings happened to create guest unsatisfaction.
We are really sorry, but actually as soon as we knew that we cannot open the terrace for the next night (the bar moved into the Palace to the Ground Floor gallery hall) we tried to advise all of our guests the night before. Actually at 10 pm we could re-open the terrace, but we did not want to disturb our guests in the suites to advise, this to not disturb sleep and of course it was late already.
We really hope that this occurrence will never happen again and be assured that we try all to make our guests experience and live the whole Palace without any limitations. Sometimes it is not easy in our job to make it all perfect, but we really try hard to make our absolute best to make our guests feel at home and to make them experience a real Florence Palace feeling.
We would be very happy, if there will be any chance to re-welcome you at the Palace, to meet you on the roof-top and to enjoy some champagne together.
Thank you very much and all guest comments make us improve all the time,
Yours sincerely
Dr. Alberto and Claudia Giannotti

We recently spent four nights at the Palazzo and were very pleased with our visit. It is an elegant small and intimate hotel with beautiful furnishings. The rooms are large and well appointed. The bathrooms were spotless and lovely...updated. We loved the breakfast room with its fabulous chandelier and complete service of food. The rooftop bar is worth the climb to see the vista of the city of Florence.

The staff is very helpful and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. It is in a great location, easy to get to parts of the city. Not like a big chain hotel, but like you are a guest in a private palazzo.
The street rooms can be noisy, we had a quiet suite in the back.
My husband used the fitness room and said that the equiptment was very good. The coffee and tea service in hallway was great for getting a cup of tea in the morning or evening.
All in all , a charming, welcoming and lovely place to stay in Florence.

We were given a very warm welcome on arrival, just what we needed after a tiring day travelling. The rooms were superb, all the staff were very helpful, and the view from the roof top bar was amazing.
The loation is great, within easy walking distance of all the sights and some very good restaurants.
This has to be the best place we have ever stayed, it really made our holiday exceptional, and at a very reasonable price.

four of us stayed for 4 nights, based on info in hotel website ( 5 stars). The hotel is (was)an impressive family palazzo, now in need of some attention. There is a breakfast room ( very nice room, excellent breakfasts) but NO restaurant. There is only one bar ( rooftop terrace, excellent views of the city) which only opens at 1800 hours daily & can only be reached by ascending 60 steepish steps from the second floor as the lift don't go there - so, unless you're pretty fit you won't go there often. We took a deluxe double suite ( two bedrooms, two bathrooms & a central lounge) - one bedroom was brilliant, the other one very basic, being a typical hotel knock through & paste up. Central lounge spacious & well furnished apart from some drear reproductions hanging on the walls pretending to be antique art ! Service ( including room service) from the hotel staff was truly first rate apart from one duty manager who knew the both line of least resistance AND the easiest route to maximising hotel income. Every time we asked a question, he offerred to make a booking for us - if you know Italy , you'll know what that means !

Dear Guests,
we are reading your comment on the Tripadvisor websites and we would like to clarify some important point for us.
At the same time we are sorry that you did not completely enjoy your Palace stay.
Concerning the restaurant, the Palace is surrounded by many various restaurants, winebars and trattorias (some just in front of the door) and offers room-service that can be ordered or on the roof-top-terrace or in-suite.
The Palace is anyhow a small luxury property that offer a tailor-made service and for most of our guests it is considered ‘a home far from home’.

Our terrace, offering a unique view al lover the town, but beeing a historic preserved palace, under the protection of the Benchmark of Italy cannot be modified or include a lift unfortunately. The lift to reach the Palace Floors is situated in the middle of the building, but cannot reach the roof-top-terrace.
During the cold months instead the Palace Bar moves inside in the main entrance gallery hall.

Two-Bedroom suites offer one master bedroom and one smaller one, both with in-suite baths and both with all amenities. Only one bedroom is the masterbedroom.
Mostly this suite is used by families.
Concerning the pictures on the walls, each suite shows authentic antique wall tapestry fragments from 1600 (under glass) and as well some different prints and pictures, to well adorn all suite walls. The antiques inside the Palace and in the common areas all come from the antique gallery of our ancestors, from the time when the property was one of the most important antique galleries of Europe.

We are sorry that you had a misunderstood impression of the duty manager, but we would like to appoint that all our booking services are at cost and our palace service suggests to pre-book most services, such as museums, galleries and restaurants, especially during the high season time period, this only to make our guests avoid lines and to be sure that they will get what we think are their expactations. This is not a ‘must’, but just a suggestions, since many places during the high season would need queing otherwise.

We really hope that we could give you some more detailed explanations with this short comments and we would be honored to re-welcome you anytime,
all our best wishes from Florence,
Dr. Alberto Giannotti

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Palazzo Magnani Feroni is an historical home that for over five hundred years has been at the centre of Florence's aristocratic life: one of the oldest dwellings in the San Frediano neighbourhood, it has stood as an important symbol of the city's history and its artistic value. The class of this elegant renaissance palace, evident upon entering, finds its maximum expression in the sumptuous suites and the luxurious hospitality quarters, furnished with candelabra, statues, paintings and frescoes form the '500. Each suite reflects the refinement of the Renaissance style, with the subtle combination of comfort and modern technology and decorated with tasteful antique furnishings and materials originating from the owners' ancestors' antique collection. Spanning between 80- and 120-square meters (860- and 1300- square feet) in size, the 13 suites each comprise a large living room, bedroom(s) and master bathroom(s). Each includes all amenities expected of a five-star luxury hotel, including stereo, satellite television in both the living room and bedroom, internet port and self-regulating air conditioning units. An architectural jewel of the 16th century, the Palazzo Magnani Feroni belongs to the National Register of Historical Monuments of the State of Italy. Detail and ornamentation characterises the building throughout, surprising the wanderer with frescoes, vaulted ceilings and intricate wood-carvings. The Renaissance decor prevails in this palace of traditional Florentine lay-out. Breakfast, for instance, is served in a 160-square meter salon with hand-crafted wood ceilings illuminated by a large original Murano chandelier. In the winter evenings, this salon serves as an intimate, candle-lit Bar, accessible to Palazzo guests and their friends only. The same rules are applicable to the adjoining Billiard Room, as well as to the In-House Gym, so as to assure the guests with absolute privacy. The beautiful Roof-Top Terrace offers a breathtaking view of the city and houses the Palazzo Bar as soon as the temperature permits. Providing 24-hour Reception and Service, the Palazzo Magnani Feroni is run by a staff dedicated to meet your every need with efficiency and discretion, both prior, during and following your stay. Services include reservations to exclusive restaurants, recommendations of typical local eateries and trattorias, coordination of privileged entrance to the city's museums, airport / train station pick-up, private shopping tours, visits to the Ferrari Museum and private, chauffeured excursions to the beautiful Chianti valley. Also, Palazzo guests choose from a selection of CDs, DVD films and soap fragrances for their suite, as well as benefit from private Guides to shopping and restaurants off the beaten path, personally written by the owners of the Palazzo for an "insider's view" of Florence. ... more   less
