2 adults & 2 young children (3 & 9 months). The check in process is frustrating, having to go to Hotel De Lanzi - MORE than just a few steps from the property. We buzzed at the front door of the Apartments and a man from the hotel came and helped us with our luggage up the stairs to the lift (which only fits 3 people). The room looked great with all the facilities required to house the 4 of us including dishwasher & washing machine, a mezzanine bedroom well stocked kitchenette. Then at check in was told we were in the wrong room. The room we were moved to (in number 4 building) was smaller, had a poor excuse for a kitchenette that was missing cutlery, bowls and basic cooking utensils. There was no dishwasher - which is fine except the kitchen sink didn't have a plug!
The man at reception on the first day was very sympathetic and his English was excellent however he was unauthorised to move us and suggested we come back the next morning to speak with the director. She was quite blunt with me, blamed me for giving the wrong name for the room mix up. I said I would prefer the type of room we saw initially and she said this was only for 2 people, that NO rooms for 4 people had a washing machine in them. Does that make sense? We listed the missing items and to their credit they were quickly replaced, except that the plug for the sink didn't fit. She was also helpful in locating a laundromat & supermarket for us.
Our nine month old collected lots of black hairs whilst crawling around the apartment.

The location is remarkable, with all of Florence's attractions easily reached on foot. The Piazza Della Republica has plenty of restaurants to choose from including the famous Gillis.

The place was less than what we would expect for a self catering city apartment and for over 200 euros per night represented very poor value for money.

Room Tip: Fine for 2 people, not for young families

My friends and I stayed here the one night before we moved on and the room was new, clean and large with a little kitchenette. Bathroom was nice as well. It's wonderfully located in the Piazza Repubblica and the view from our window was great - overlooking the piazza. It was also noise proof.

The only odd thing was that when you get there there is no reception...it's an apartment house. You buzz them from the outside and someone comes to let you in and show you the room. Then after lugging your luggages up the one flight of stairs to the elevator and dropping the bags off in the room, you have to go to the actual hotel that owns this a few blocks away (not even 5 min) and check in there. It's just an odd process and that one flight of stairs a pain if you have big luggages. Other than that the location was perfect.

The apartment was in a great location, on one of the main squares, with cafes and resturants near by, the square came to life at night with music.

The year of our stay was actually 2006 just as a couple of the suite renovations were completed. We stayed in an efficiency suite which was actually quite spacious with a completely up-to-date bathroom. The suite also came fully equipped with a kitchenette and kitchenware if you want to spend a quiet night in.

Better than a hotel room, this recent remodeled apartment with kitchenette, gives you the option of privacy , saving money in food with a great trendy location.

More ample than average hotel room, this apartment is nicely decorated in contemporary style with confort.
We avoided busy restaurants by cooking our fresh, best quality meals in own privacy. Nice large bed with modern but yet simple decor, makes you feel at home.

The great location, full of the world's high end brand name stores, plenty cafe bars and restaurants welcome you to walk to the world's most important art gallaries and museums in this beautiful city.

Enjoy Toscana Italia

Ciao ! & Aloha

We couldn't have wished for a more convenient base in Florence. Right overlooking one of the main Piazzas in central Florence, yet fairly soundproof. We could walk outside the front dor and find restaurants, cafes, shops and most importantly Gelato on the same block and be within 2-3 blocks of the Duomom Uffizi gallery and other major attractions.
A minor quibble as per all older buildings, is that we couldn't get all 4 of us into the lelvator together, but as it's only a 4 storey building, it wan't too long to wait, or you can use the stairs. It's just checking in and leaving with luggage that it's a bit of a juggle.
Word of warnin-don't drive into Florence. It's near impossible to stop/park near the apartments to unload and carry your luggage up. Florence police don't book you, but they have cameras and send you fines via your rental car company if tyou drive/park somewhere you shouldn't. The other major issue with driving is that GPS systems can't find the location too easily, with a maze of narrow one way streets with tall buildings and quick turns making a GPS next to useless in finding exact location and working out when you've turned a corner. Check in is via the Hotel de Lanzi, about 2 blocks away. When we couldn't find the apartments via GPs (and didn't have a map), the hotel were extremely helpful and after we rang them,, they sent someone from reception to find us and guide us to the apartment, help us into the apartment with the luggage and arranged someone from a local (but very expensive) parking garage to come an get rid of the car for us. For the remainder of the time, we didn't really need to go to the hotel and were happy to have our breakfasts in the apartment, using the hideaway kitchenette and we even had a dinner there without too much trouble.
Our Kids loved the location, also being close to the markets for those value priced leather jackets and other leather goods. Also on the same block as La Rinascentre, one of the larger dapratment stores and the Xara shop, that my oldest daugher loved.

Staying at Residence La Repubblica in Florence, Italy was probably the worst hotel stay we've ever had. There were two main problems:

1) The room was terribly noisy for multiple reasons: The Piazza La Republicca is very noisy with a band and a DJ playing music well into the night - until 1-2AM. Despite closing all of the windows and shades, it didn't make a difference, it is quite noisy in the room. If that isn't enough for you, the elevator (which is used throughout the night) is also very noisy, it shakes the room -- there is no escaping the noise in this hotel.

2) The room wasn't maintained, in a 5 night stay we didn't get a single cleaning. When we called the desk about it they said "you will get one cleaning during your stay, I don't know when". We had to ask for fresh towels, they couldn't bring us any that evening and that we'd have to wait until the morning. In the morning, we called and they said fresh towels would come "when the maid gets there". We did get fresh towels once, but did not get a single cleaning.

Do not stay at this B&B/Hotel - totally not worth it.
