Tourist House Liberty
Ranked #533 of 659 Florence B&B and Inns
Reviewed 28 July 2012

Loved our stay at Tourist House Liberty in Florence. The owner was modestly charming, helpful and available, though never invasive. Liked the location a little bit away from the hussle and bussle of the historical centre. My kind of place, will be back.

Based on the pictures we booked this hotel, center of Florence, annoying place for driving and parking... but that was well explained by the friendly owner.
BUT... based on pictures you make terrible decisions...
Although it is mentioned on the website: ceiling fan, airconditioning in all rooms: NOT!
we booked a superior room for 2 nights, arrived over there and everything was misbooked in their computer. We received a room with the same look and feel but the bed was bric-brac, paint comming of the walls (near bathroom==> problem with water?), terrible springs in the bed, no continious hot water for the shower, airconditioning was not there and no ceiling fan to find... 37degrees and at midnight still 28degrees...
bathroom had fungus on the curtain and plastic toilet seat was poor. Dust everywhere...
When you think you finally had it after 3hours of sweety nightsleep you are presented a VERY poor breakfast. 1 croissant, a cup of coffee, 1 biscuit.
Hotel owner was very kind and admitted the mistake of the wrong room, the airco missing, etc... cancellation was free of charge for the next night and a refund was given of 25eur(payed for basic room instead of the booked superior room).

Room Tip: get another hotel unless you really want to go out whole night and actually just want a place to put...

canopy bed (never had the opportunity before, but it was great), very central, clean, towels, friendly staff :)
we enjoyed it very much

never slept that well during holidays! I loved it there, I will recommend it to all my friends! :) great one!

(well ther was no pool or fitness area, but that was not necessary)

Tourist House Liberty is very much a 1 star affair, which is fine, as long as you realise that you are only going to get the very basics. It is well located but Florence is hardly a large town to navigate so I suspect most available accommodation would fall into this category.

The staff member who attended us when we checked in was friendly enough and made sure to let us know that the internet was only available in the lobby. Our room was dated but it was reasonably clean save for the wall at the head of the bed which had grease marks (presumably from people's hair) across it.

The bed was small (more of a king single than a double) and creaked at the slightest movement. Threadbare towels were provided for the tiny private bathroom - which was a source of endless amusement as we both had to literally straddle over the toilet to reach the shower.

If all this seems a little different from the image you imagined when looking at the professional photos then join the club. The uploaded traveller's photos give a far better indication of the place - which is a basic 1 star hotel.

My biggest issue with my stay (aside from falling off the bed whenever my partner moved) was the noise. The corridor acted as an echo chamber for every creaking door and footstep and I found myself simply not getting any sleep. As the staff leave in the evening I had no way of moving rooms or any other recourse.

Luckily, the Flowers Cafe nearby serves the best coffee I have had in Italy at a very reasonable price.

Overall I would not stay there again unless I literally had no other option.

The staff was very friendly and extremely Helpful (Jessica) went above and beyond our expectations! The place was clean and a great location (It is on a noisy street, grocery next store and Flowers Cafe for great coffee across the street). Would stay there again.. its not 5 star but if you dont want to spend alot of money on your accomodations and more on shopping and seeing the sites this place is perfect.

Room Tip: Rooms with bathrooms are pretty decent

The location is good, but the hotel is not. There´s no staff at night, so, if you have an emergency, nobody will be there for you. The corridor stinks. The air conditioner got broken many times and it was 40 degrees outside. They said they will be changing towels and sheets each three days, but they didn´t. The room was dirty, lots of dust over the furniture and a pile of old papers over the wardrobe, probably there from ages. The shower´s drain was clogged - we had to fix it.

The hotel was in the perfect spot to jump out and visit Florence. The bed was not very comfortable and since we had the room right off the lobby area, we could hear people coming in at night, but it wasn't terrible. We shared a bathroom, which wasn't awful, but it was a bit of a distance from the room, the fan didn't really work very well and the shower didn't drain easily. They did provide decent towels, soap and packets of shampoo, which was nice, even though we'd brought our own. The front desk people that we met were very accommodating. The air conditioner in the room didn't work, so we asked for a fan and got one, no issues.

Room Tip: Get a room with it's own bathroom!
