Albergo Losanna is a very basic and clean budget rate hotel within walking distance of the main sights in Florence.

We stayed in a double room with a private bathroom (60 euro a night, breakfast excluded) but there are rooms with shared facilities in the hotel as well.

The room itself was not that spacious but we just slept there. It was on the ground level facing the courtyard so we couldn’t leave the windows open while staying away. The blinds were excellent and kept the room nice and dark. When we stayed in June the weather was very hot (35 C) but there was an electric fan in the room which helped a lot. We thought that the shower was a bit shabby but perhaps we are used to using plenty of water when showering...

So if you are looking for a place to sleep, freshen up and keep your things while enjoying this wonderful city Albergo Losanna is the place to stay. That way you’ll save your money to spend it elsewhere... By the way, make sure you have a dictionary with you because the nice lady at the reception doesn’t speak English that much.

The receptionist/owner was very friendly and we did our best with our poor italian. The bed was ok, we just had a sink with cold water in the room.
i was disappointed with the shared bathroom, every time someone showered it seemed to flood the floor, the toilet was right in front of the shower, separated by only a shower curtain so that didn't help when you just wanted to use the toilet. The shower curtain also had some mouldy spots on the bottom end of the curtain and i had to do my best not to come into contact with the curtain. it was the cheapest hotel i could find in florence, perhaps there are other options and closer to the main square although we wouldn't have minded if there were some bars or cafes closer, it was around an 8 minute walk. there was also a lot of noise coming from other residents in the building and washing machine noises often. pension could do with a little update.

We knew it was a hostal like accommodations, so we were pleased.
We payed 50 euro and had a Full size bed in a private spacious room in front of the bathroom. It was winter and the room was heated. We slept good. There was hot water in shower.

The breakfast shocked us, but we quickly understood that for the price
and also the culture breakfast is normally crackers and butter or Honey with Coffee.
So I wouldn expect the ( intercontinental breakfast) in any of the hotels or hostal.

But overal it was safe and close to town ( we also had our bikes so it was very easy access for us) We really enjouyed our stay in this beautiful town!!

One thing we found to be in many Italian Hostels ( they adverties of having internet and they dont. This happend to us at Losanna.

DOES NOT HAVE INTERNET as advertised.

Albergo Losanna was perfect for our three nights in Florence last August. We paid 45 euros a night and got a clean room, a friendly hotelier and a decent location.
We were able to walk to everything in Florence with the exception of the train station when we were toting our luggage.
The lack of air conditioning was not an issue although it was hot. The common showers were clean and always available in the mornings and at night.
The best thing about this hotel though was the woman who worked the front desk. She was nice and very patient with my boyfriend and I who spoke very poor to no Italian.
She was up every morning cooking us breakfast -- which consisted of coffee or tea and stale bread.
Like most of the places we stayed, they asked us to pay cash but we were forewarned and had plenty.
I would recommend this hotel to a no-frills economy traveler.

This place is reasonably priced, and within walking distance of most of the attractions in Florence. Rooms are very basic but clean. The place is a bit old, but that added to the charm of the stay. The hostess was very nice and helpful. She speaks very little English, but tried her best. We were in Italy, after all!

The clean but Spartan Losanna is a fairly priced and well located option, but has a few limitations (minimal breakfast, no window screens). I booked the Losanna through the "365" bookings office at the Florence train station on the basis of its low price: €56 for a single room.

The positives were the room's cleanliness, the kindness of the hostess, and the location: 15-20 minutes' walk from Santa Maria Novella and 10 minutes from Campo di Marte train stations. It is at number 9 on Via V. Alfieri in a quiet neighborhood.

The room and bed linens were spotless. The shower in the shared toilet was good. The bare floors and walls make for echoes; however, having only 9 guest rooms, the Losanna does not see a lot of coming and going.

The negatives were the very minimal breakfast (tea/coffee, a bread roll and jam) and the absence of window screens, a key consideration in the summer months if you must have a window open. (No air conditioning, as should be expected with most European budget hotels.)

The hostess was kind. She speaks very little English, however. I understand slowly spoken Italian well (and told her so, in Italian), but when I asked her to speak slowly, she instead tried her English, which was frustrating for both of us.

Although she was very gracious in offering to hold my bags for the day after I had checked out, she did rush me a bit to leave that morning (before the stated 10 a.m. check-out time). I think she thought that I was going to walk away with her room key!

I stay there twice a year and have stayed there several times, but have not had any out the ordinary experiences, I made sure I had mosquito spray, before arriving, even in the heat of summer, all that was needed was a fan. OK, and one of those plug in deterents. So the lady doesnt speak much inglais? we were in Firenze, isnt that to be expected? I only wish that I spoke more Italiano.
I would go back for the experience of Florence again!
