My husband and I chose Hotel Alessandra based off the Trip Advisor Reviews. We stayed in a total of 4 different hotels during our trip and this was by far our favorite one. It boggles my mind that they are listed as only a 2 star hotel, they are a 5 star in my book!
The directions given to us were very good and simple to follow. We were able to walk from the train station with our rolling luggage to the hotel with relative ease.
All the staff was very kind, but Andre and Monti stood out like shining stars. Both were exceptionally friendly and helpful and I couldn't possibly say enough nice things about them. They went out of their way to help my husband and I solve the unhappy ordeal of our flight home being cancelled (don't fly AirBerlin!!) and having to leave Italy a couple days earlier than planned. Monti helped me write a letter in italian to another hotel explaining our need to shorten our stay with them. Andre helped my husband get hold of the airline so we could yell at them and straighten things out. The hotel also offers FREE international calling for 10min a day, which was a life saver during all the airline nonesense. I'm pretty certain they let us go over that limit too...
The rooms were very spacious and the beds very comfortable. Everyone kept describing european hotel rooms as the size of postage stamps, but the double we got was about the size of standard american hotel room. We chose one of the rooms that shares a bathroom in the hallway. We were a bit nervous about this idea, but it turned out to be no problem at all. Even though I heard people showering, the bathrooms would miraculously be cleaned and wiped down by the time I stepped into them. There was never a time the restrooms were dirty, which was a big concern of mine. Oh, and the airconditioning... glorious. Touring Italy in the summer- we were drenched in sweat all day. Coming back to a nice cool clean hotel with showers with great water pressure... so so so nice.
Breakfast was a nice assortment of small pastries, fruits, and dairies. Then of course their adorable smiley face cappucinos which are delicious. As we discovered and read, Italy isn't big on breakfast. You need to save the room for your 3 hour lunches and dinners you're supposed to indulge in.
Great central location as everyone says. Ask the staff for their recommendations. They will make your reservations and draw you out a map. We tried 2 of their suggestions and both were delicious. There is wireless internet and a community computer to use if needed.
All in all, I would highly recommend this hotel just for the staff alone. Great price for excellent service.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Our family run hotel is right in the heart of Florence old town - near to the Uffizi Gallery and Ponte Vecchio. Without doubt, Hotel Alessandra is one of the most centrally located hotels in Florence. In this privileged position, Hotel Alessandra offers a home away from home, with our friendly team and extensive knowledge of the local area. The hotel entrance is situated on the second floor of the building. You can reach the reception floor using the lift, small but working fine (in the 1400s buildings hadn't been designed with this in mind!) But please note that there are around 30 steps from the entrance on the street level to the departure of the lift. We very much look forward to seeing you! Andrea and Anna ... more less
