What generally differentiates a great hotel from a good hotel is the staff and the level of service it provides. In this respect the Hotel Giiglio earns a gold star. We were immediately impressed when shortly after booking our room, we asked if they could make advance reservations for us to visit the Academia and Uffizi Galleries. Without hesitation, the staff gladly obliged and e-mailed us our reservation times and reference numbers. Having reservations prevented us from waiting in long lines to enter the above attractions.

Upon check-in, the desk clerk took the time to explain to us all of the hotel’s facilities and amenities, provided a detailed map of Florence, (outlining all the major and popular sights and landmarks and how to get there), offered advice and suggestions regarding restaurants (all proved to be excellent), as well as other tourist information. It was of great help, almost like having a personal guide. Throughout our stay we found all hotel staff to be personable, engaging, helpful and gracious. Even when checking out, they insisted on driving us to the central rail station for our trip to Rome.

Our room was very large by European standards and the bathroom/shower areas were also above average size with plenty of room to maneuver. Closet and drawer space were adequate with a built-in safe located in the wall. We found the room to be very quiet and clean with timely and efficient housekeeping. The room also had a flat screen TV along with a mini refrigerator to store your drinks. Refreshments could be purchased in the lobby/reception area and were not overpriced like many other hotels tend to do. There are several computers in the reception area for use by guests. Having air conditioning was a very welcome amenity given the hot temperatures during our stay.

Breakfast, which is served in an area adjacent to the reception area, provided a nice selection of the usual European fare of cereals, breads, jams, beverages (cappuccino – which was excellent, coffee, tea, and juices), cheeses, cold cuts, hard boiled eggs, and pastries. All food items were well presented, tasty and satisfying.

It was very evident the owners take a great deal of personal pride in their hotel and are committed to providing quality accommodations, coupled with excellent service. In the end, this is what truly differentiates this hotel from the other large, impersonal venues.

We highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Florence and will definitely stay here again in the future.

We absolutely loved hotel Giglio. We stayed for four nights in a double room. Room was VERY large for Europe and bathroom was marble and large too. We had a great balcony with French doors. Hotel is very clean. Breakfast was ok...their cappuccinos were the best part!!! The family that runs the hotel could not be kinder and they were so helpful to us with maps, restaurant reservations, suggestions, etc. They even gave us a ride to the train station on our way out of town!! Although the hotel is a good 15 min walk from the city center (the Duomo, Baptistery, etc) I would recommend hotel Giglio to anyone. It really made our stay in Florence wonderful!!

The Giglio could not have served our needs better for the three days and nights we were there. The service was incredibly friendly and warm. The room, a quad, was HUGE and with triple windows, very quiet. Everyone, from the receptionist, to the breakfast the hostess, to the housecleaning staff, was professional yet outgoing and seemed genuinely happy to see us (and all the guests). The hotel was clean and bright,. It was not the most central location, but nothing in Florence is too far away

My husband and I traveled to Rome, Florence and Venice, and this hotel was the best of the ones we stayed at, not because it was nicer or cleaner than the others (they were all pretty much the same) but because the staff was so great. They really take customer service to another level (on par with American hotel concierge service).

Pros:
clean, nice breakfast, amazing staff! (they gave us an overview of the city w/ a map when we arrived, they helped us make dinner reservations and also drove us to the train station), free internet access, close to train & bus stop

Cons:
slightly far from attractions, noise on street and in hallways during night/early morning (there was a garbage truck that came every morning and the maid staff was extremely loud in the morning).

Don't let the outside scare you! I had come from Rome and was exhausted. When my cab pulled up in front of the hotel I wasn't a little concerned I was a LOT concerned. And I was completely wrong. The owners were the nicest people - very helpful! It was nice having free & easy access to internet and just good old fashion customer service. Also, my room was clean and I didn't have any problems.

My only bad thing was it wasn't a lot of sun light BUT I understood the need for the shutters on the window that keep the sun out - they also kept out a lot of the street noise so it wasn't a problem.

My husband and I spent 6 nights at the Hotel Giglio and it was just wonderful. If you enjoy walking, it is walking distance to virtually everything. The room was clean and basic which is what we wanted because we spent little time in the room. Free wifi was great to have. But as others have noted the staff is great. Marco and his wife are so warm and friendly -- every morning they would greet us for breakfast and Marco gave us great sightseeing tips -- it was like getting a tour guide with your room. I would highly recommend this hotel!
