“Great Hotel! ”
Reviewed 16 May 2014 via mobile

We arrived at this hotel having travelled from Rome, and after our experiences there, we weren't expecting very much. However, we were very pleasantly surprised! This hotel is a real gem with nicely decorated, traditional rooms and very helpful staff.

We were so lucky to find this beautiful little hotel 15 mins from the center of Florence. It was clean, spacious (family room for 4 is one of the biggest we have stayed in !) , so centrally based that we were able to walk all around Florence without the need for taxis. Breakfast was a treat, fresh and plentiful. However what makes this hotel is the service provided by the owner brothers. They are so helpful, friendly and go out of their way to help you with any query you might have. Thank You Hotel Giglio, you exceeded all our expectations and our Florence trip was made all the better by you. (The Malik family - London)

Room Tip: Family room for 4 is definitely a good sized room

Marco & Manuella set the standard for great accommodation in Firenze. Central, full of character, great breakfast, great accommodation and personal service. Third visit from Australia and won't be our last.

When there is too much to choose from it makes it difficult to get a good hotel. The town of Florence has over 600 hotels, and so to pick a really good one is like getting a winning lottery ticket. The hotel Giglio is a small hotel, family run, on the 1st floor (in the USA it will be the 2nd) of an old building, that has a very small elevator. Don’t think old as bad, because every building in Florence is old! It is very conveniently located, near Academia (to visit the David) and the Doumo (by near I mean 5-10 min. walk) But if you don’t want to walk, right outside the hotel you can take Bus No. 1 that takes you to the bus/train station (where you can directly can take a bus to/from the airport) Furniture and look are not the best, but is very clean, comfortable and they even have a DVD player to watch a movie (that can become useful when the TV has only 2 channels-news in English). Breakfast is big and really good. But I left the best for last, and that of course is Marco, his wife and his brother. They are friendly, always happy and extremely helpful. The know anything about everything you need to know in Florence, and they are eager to help. This and the moderate price, with such a location is simply saying: stop looking, you got your hotel in Florence.
TIP:
No need to rent a car in Florence, don't go with it to the area where the hotel is if you don't like to pay some town's fees (there are some restriction of traffic in Florence), or if you do ask first Marco, he might be able find the way to avoid it.

Room Tip: .Ask for a room far from any traveling group

This hotel exceeded our expectations!
All of the staff was extremely helpful and gave us some great tips and advice on restaurants, tours and the best places to see during our stay. The location is ideal! The breakfast was tasty and perfect to gear up for a long day of sightseeing. Our room was spacious and very clean. The only down side was that there was construction going on above us waking us rather early. On the bright side, it got us up and moving through jet lag to take full advantage of our day.
If/when we go back, we would definitely stay there again because of how awesome the staff was!

I paid extra for a double deluxe room. Upon check in, we were told the hotel was booked and they had another room for us to stay in. The requested king size bed was two twin beds pushed together (so not very comfortable) and we were placed on the same floor as reception, close to the toilet and not too far from where breakfast is served every morning.
- The room was musty and smelled
- The bathroom shower flooded and bathroom was dingy
- The one night we came in a bit early, our dvd player and tv weren't working properly
- The clanking of plates and staff could be heard starting at 5:30am so very little sleep was achieved
- Breakfast was minimal

The entrance is not easy to locate and you must drag your luggage up stairs just to get to the tiny elevator which can fit only one suitcase at a time.

The one positive about this place was that it was central and a 7-10 minute walk to the duomo.

Don't think I would recommend this place

Room Tip: Nothing on the same floor as reception

This was a great location close to the city center. We walked into the city and we are both pensioners. Marco-Roberto and the team were always on hand to help. They told us the restaurants to go to and the best way to travel. There are many buses from here. Breakfast is really good and we had tea in the evenings ( Brits). Beds are good and the Colonial style of the rooms is really well done. The on-suit was a good size and well provisioned.
Cannot recommend this highly enough.

Room Tip: We had a great double room but don't expect views. Elevator up to the Hotel
