“Great location but rude staff.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 August 2013

Location was great however the staff were rude and unhelpful. Booking states parking is included however you have to pay for your car to be returned to you - didn't know this until we were expected to pay. No information was provided about reaching the hotel, i.e restricted areas to drive through. Hotel has a driver but the guy behind reception was awful at explaining the car situation. Breakfast was basic. Luckily we had got a very good price and had not paid the going rate for the room as is not worth the full price.

We read previous reviews on this hotel and actually tried to cancel because of the negative comments , so glad we didn't. Perfect location, the best friendly staff, comfortable air conditioned large room, sure it's old but was isn't . We stayed three nights and would recommend this hotel to others.

In terms of location, this hotel is in th middle of everything. Shopping and food streets. Though it may be hard to find a little for the streets surrounding it is usually one way. No parking space for guests. There is one near, about 300-400m from the hotel, it will cost you about €30 for 24 hours.

Room is a little small, but clean. Towels smell bad. The aircon was not working so well, it was a little hot. Pillows were thin and uncomfortable.

Wifi costs €5 but is good for use of 1 device only. Buffet breakfast consists of Ham, boiled egg, breads, juices and coffee. Thats it.

Alert! Be careful of entrances to floors!

Have to press buzzer that is over unorotected open concrete stairwell in order for large door to open AT you with no room to maneuver. No safety warnings! No protection! No handrails! No rug on these stairs!

My husband was victim to this scenario, falling down the 12 steps backwards with no protection and no rail to grab. Broken neck, massive scalp lacerations, other fractures, hematomas and contussions ruined our entire vacation ,,, and our lives for many a time to come.

Management would not be named & gone; rep expressed no concern. 3 staff were very helpful onsite.

Hotel management absent & rep expressed no interest or sympathy. 3 staff are to be commended for their service.

As per other reviews, you cannot beat the location - from breakfast room you see the Campanille tower (breakfast basic but they make you a real coffee if you ask). Staff is friendly and speaks basic English.
PARKING - hotel is in the non-drive zone, so if you have a car, call ahead, and the hotel will give you a name and address of the garage (halfway between the hotel and the station) where you can take you car. They have an agreement with the hotel, and always a place for you. They will drive you and the luggage to the hotel (they have permits from the police), and take the car back for the night or however long you want to leave it there. The charge is 25Euro for 24 hours (cheaper that 3 Euro per haf an hour at the station).
And as all Italian hotels in the city centers (that are not 5* and take up a whole block), it is somewhat shaby and unmaintained. Nevertheless clean and I would stay there again for 3 nights like we did.
Our windows were "boarded" - they could be opened, but you would not necessarily want to - they open onto dark dismal alley.. but after some persuasion, we got the aircon to work so it did not matter, since we only slept there.
The entrance does not give a great first impression, and the lift did not work. The reception lobby is on the first floor, so for older people or large suitcases not ideal. But they got the lift working the next day.

Room Tip: Don't know how to chose a best room, but PLEASE SEE NOTE ON PARKING.

First impression wasn`t good, the lift was tiny and not modern, the reception run-down and not attractive. The actual hotel smelt slightly everywhere of drains. Our room was ok, very small, shabby, although clean. The same applies to the bathroom. The air-con was noisy and not effective. Breakfast wasn`t anything fantastic, small choice although fresh. The great thing about this hotel is the location, very central and a short walk to all main attractions. Staff were reasonably friendly.

The great thing about this hotel was the location. Only a 5 minute walk from the train station and right in front of the Campanile tower. All main attractions were in walking distance such as the petti palace and boboli gardens, the san lorenzo market etc. we managed to see everything in one day!! However, the actual hotel is somewhere that I would not willingly stay at again. As soon as we walked into the bedroom I wanted to leave. Very old fashioned and outdated, and you feel like it is a very unsecure place. You aren't allowed to take your room key out of the building, so after very long days in the hot sun walking for miles when you just want to run up to the room and crash out, you can't. You have to wait in line at reception to get your key. Some days it was quick. But others you could be waiting a long time if there are lots of people checking in.

The breakfast was included; not that it was much of a breakfast. The only decent food they had was toast. So do not expect anything extravagent.

Overall location is perfect so if it is a short stay then go for it. If you plan on staying longer then don't bother, pay the little extra and stay somewhere better.
