Owner description: This 19th century piazza has undoubtedly the best panoramic view of Florence. The square is decorated with copies of Michelangelo's sculptures, but it's the view people come here to see.

“Breathtaking views”
Reviewed 27 November 2013

The views here over Florence, especially at sunset/dusk, are something else. A tip, however, would be to also carry on walking further up from the Piazzale Michelangelo to the church that resides above it (sorry, the name escapes me). From here, you'll have an even better view that is completely unobstructed as hardly anyone else seems to know about this. When we went, the Piazzale Michelangelo was full of hundreds of people meaning that it was difficult to get to the front and get your own photos. The church above, however, had no more than a dozen people which made the whole experience so much more enjoyable.

“the view”
Reviewed 26 November 2013

Not sure you need to spend a lot of time in the piazzale itself, because there's not much there besides the parking lot, but the view is totally worth it. You can get a panoramic view of pretty much the whole city, the river, the domes, etc. When we were there it was raining (pouring) on and off, but when it was raining the city was beautiful and when it was sunny the whole vista was spectacular. Worth the climb up. The gelateria up top is pretty tasty, too, and there's the chapel at the top of the hill that's worth seeing.

“incredible experience”
Reviewed 26 November 2013

If you go to Florence this is a MUST! We walked from the Ponte Vecchio up to Piazzale Michelangelo (it's a bit of a hike with uphill stretches), but the view at the top is BEAUTIFUL. We went right before sunset and were able to see the transition from day to night overlooking the city of Florence. It was such an incredible experience

“Great views over Florence, especially at sunset”
Reviewed 26 November 2013

Despite it being very busy with tourists, Piazzale Michelangelo has some of the best views over Florence.
The walk up the steps can be quite a challenge, take either bus no.12 or 13 that stop at Piazzale.
Very popular with photographers taking shots of the Ponte Vecchio. It is especially beautiful there when the sun is going down colouring the sky, reflecting in the river and giving that special glow to this beautiful city.
