We stayed here mid September for 3 nights, and the location of the hotel suited our needs. The hotel is within easy walking distance for all the sights in Florence, although not for the train station! It is within a 15 minute walk of Piazza Michaelangelo which is definitely worth a visit to get one of the best views of the city, especially at Sunset. The reception staff were always very friendly and happy to help. The room was spacious, clean and very quiet which was ideal for a relaxing break, and had air conditioning. Breakfast was typical Tuscan style, with Croissants, pastries, cold meats and cheeses, cereal yoghurts and fruit etc, and made an excellent start to the day. Overall a very enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: We stayed in 312, which was very quiet.

This hotel is quiet, clean and well located for major sights and galleries. We enjoyed the space and facilities of the hotel but found the essentials of service lacking. The reception staff member whom we encountered over two days was taciturn, surly and unhelpful. We were part of a small group travelling around Tuscany and all members of the group had the same response when asking about directions, recommendations for restaurants or wi-fi connection. Overall, the experience was average and proved that an anonymous hotel chain does not do as good a job as the family-owned and operated establishments we encountered.

We only stayed in this hotel for one night, but it suited our needs very well. We did make one major mistake- trying to walk to it from the train station on one of the hottest days in August with two big suitcases! It hadn't seemed quite so far when we looked it up beforehand, but the heat combined with the fact that the sidewalks are very narrow, uneven, and crowded (in other words, not good for suitcase wheels) made this a very exhausting walk.

Upon arrival, we found the room to be pretty small and very bland in terms of decor, however we had one of the two rooms with the balcony overlooking the river and the view was really lovely. If you can handle the small size of the room, request this view! We turned the AC on immediately and tried to relax, but it kept shutting off every 2 minutes prompting us to reset it. It was very annoying, but when I went to the front desk to explain it, they simply clicked a few buttons on the computer and then our AC never went off! From then on the room was cool and comfortable.

The hotel's location was great- a quick hop across the river and up the hill to Piazza Michaelangelo for one of the best city views, and 10-15 minutes in the other direction through the charming little town to get to all of the other big ticket sights. They also had a luggage room, so after we checked out we were able to continue sightseeing without dragging our bags around. The front desk called a taxi for us, which arrived in 3 minutes, to take us back to the train station.

The staff weren't overly warm but certainly not unfriendly either, and they spoke English very well. Overall I would recommend this hotel for a short stay in Florence.

Room Tip: There are only 2 rooms with balconies but the view is lovely.

Well located - about 10 minutes walk from the most famous landmarks of Florence. We never once needed a taxi. The rooms are best part of the deal. They are spacious, they look good and are comfortable. The little roof terrace overlooking the Arno is very nice too and a godsend if you are a smoker.

Breakfast is functional rather than a pleasure. The staff weren't exactly friendly but they were very efficient, multilingual and informative when required.

I stayed with my family including our 4 month old daughter for two nights, I'm sorry it wasn't longer. We were met by a concierge who helped us with our bags. The rooms were very clean and the beds very comfortable. There's a small roof terrace worth checking out with views over the river, very pleasant with a glass of wine. Above all though it was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff that made this such a great stay. Recommendations to restaurants off the beaten track were exceptional, and when I was having IT issues they even booked our train tickets on line for us, above and beyond the call of duty I reckon. Many thanks especially to Leonardo for this, he was extremely professional and helpful. I would return.

Really lovely hotel, I stayed there for four days with my boyfriend in April. I had emailed before hand to make sure we were put in a none smoking room as i read on TripAdvisor that some people said their rooms smelt funny. We were put in a none smoking room and it didn't smell at all. It was very clean and nicely decorated. I had asked if we could have a river facing room but was advised this cost extra so didn't bother in the end. We were facing the courtyard bit at the back and the other side of the hotel but it was perfectly pleasant.

The breakfast is described as 'ample' on the website which I would agree with, continental breakfast with pastries, fruit, yoghurts.etc but no hot food.

The hotel is within easy walking distance of the Ufizzi and the centre of Florence. The staff were all very polite. The only thing I would warn visitors about is that you have to pay a tax for each day you stay in Florence, I think ours came to 25 euros for the four days we were there and you pay that at the hotel when you check out.

Dear Katie
we thank you so much for your kind words and we are pleased you appreciated your stay at our hotel.
The city tax is an overnight tax issued by Florence administration starting from july 2012 and it totally goes to the city hall for maintenance of touristic sites and to improve the touristic services.
Thanks again and we hope to host you again in our hotel soon

My partner and I have just returned from a week long stay at Hotel River. We booked it by chance without any real idea of how close or otherwise it was to the heart of Florence. We were not disappointed. We had a lovely spacious room with flat screen TV, air conditioning, mini bar and en suite shower room. Plentiful clean towels and a reasonable breakfast in with the price.

The hotel is situated literally around the corner from Santa Croce, a busy and lively square with plenty of places to eat and drink. It was a lovely 10 minute walk along the river down to the Uffizi Gallery, Vecchio Palace and the beautiful cathedral and 2 bridges down from Ponte Vecchio. All the churches and sights were within a good walking distance. We would highly recommend it as your Florence base and when we hopefully return we would be happy to stay there again.
