We spent 3 nights in this hotel in 2012 and truly speaking it was a great time. The location is perfect, in downton. The staff is friendly. The rooms are clean, comfortable and have a nice design. In other words such good hotels make your trip excellent and make a good impression on the country.
If I be in Florence in the future I'll stay here again!

This was without a doubt one of the best hotel stays we've had in Europe. The staff are exceptional and ready to help with everything we could possibly need. Marianna is absolutely fantastic! She had so many good recommendations for shopping, dining and sites and she was spot on every time. She was a joy to work with and just to talk to.

Our room was quite nice and well appointed. The bathroom was modern, though small as are most European bathrooms. The bed was very comfortable and there was plenty of room to walk around, though we did upgrade to a slightly larger room.

The breakfast was very good with a nice selection of yogurt, fruits, cheeses, meats, croissants and cereal. The dining room was attractive and the staff was consistently pleasant.

The only reason I could not give 5 stars was because the wifi was slow, inconsistently available and overall very frustrating. I was not able to get online for work very much at all during our stay. It would not be difficult to fix the wifi, which would greatly improve the quality of the experience for their guests.

The next time I'm in Florence I will absolutely stay here again. It is reasonably priced, within easy walking distance to the old city and the staff is second to none!

Room Tip: Ask for a river view if they are available!

My finace and I went to Florence in April 2013 and stayed in a different hotel and decided on this trip, we wanted to be closer to the sites and have a nicer room. We were traveling with 4 other people this time it was also important that the rooms be nice and the location walkable to sites. This was a great choice! The bed was so comfortable, the room nice sized and very clean and this was the first bathroom on our entire trip that has a shower with a glass door (most had NOTHING!) The breakfast was okay and was enough to tie you over a few hours. The lady at the front desk was SO nice!! She actually worked at the reception desk of our last hotel when we were in Florence before. We both clearly wanted a nicer stay! She is so sweet and even remembered us! She reccommended a great place to eat near our hotel and the food was amazing. Great stay!

Room Tip: You can walk anywhere you want to be! Park the car and put on your tennis shoes!

Upon arrival into the Florence train station from Rome, I contacted the Hotel River to inquire about what the cost of a taxi should be to the facility; I was advised it should be approximately 15 Euros. I explained to Gino (the manager) that we had just arrived and would be there shortly; Gino sounded a little apprehensive and told me that the facility was overbooked and we would be moving to another hotel. I must say that this wasn't my happiest moment of our trip, as the location of this hotel is close enough to the city center that it's not a very long commute to get to many of the attractions we wanted to see in Florence.

Arriving at the hotel which is right by the river, Gino explained the situation and provided us refreshments, croissants and great hospitality. I must say that my wife was skeptical about the new arrangements, but I trusted Gino's description of the other BW property we'd be moving to, which was the Hotel Villa Gabriele D'Annunzio. This hotel is located further out from the city center, and to accommodate us for the additional distance, the hotel paid for our transportation to and from the new hotel during our stay.

After getting everything straight, we got on the C2 bus which is very close to the hotel and went back to the train station for a quick trip to Pisa. When we returned Gino was still there, offered us refreshments again (which we accepted) and he ordered us a cab (which they paid for) to the new location. I won't review the new hotel here, but I will say that up to this point there hasn't been a lot of floor space in our previous hotel room; it was obvious we got upgraded because room 306 in the Hotel Villa Gabriele D'Annunzio was very spacious and nice with awesome views of the Italian hills. Gino's detail of the new facility was spot on and I know our trip was better for it. I also have no doubt that Gino and his staff will take care of you if you stay with them; they were great to us.

I want to say "THANK YOU Gino and staff" ; unexpected changes can be good, we stayed flexible and adventurous and it brought a pleasant and unexpected outcome to our trip. Can you imagine the trouble I would have been in with the wife if this place was challenging!!

Just a reminder about the cabs, the metered cab cost 15 Euros to the Hotel River and there was a very friendly gentleman that offered private taxi service to the hotel for 30 Euros.....NOT!!!

Thanks again Hotel River!!

Room Tip: The staff explained that there are very few rooms that have the River view. I would suggest booking...

It is by the river (a little outside of city center) with good walk (10-20 mins) to most attractions or there is a bus/tram in front of hotel. Stayed on 3rd floor for 2 nighs; room was good (relatively spacious); the walls are thin (so bring ear plugs if you have noisy neighbor). Service by Front desk is variable; some are arrogant and not nice and others are very nice (?typical of Italy). Like that there is a running and biking route in front of hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms 300 and 301 face the river, so chose those rooms if available.

We recently stayed here and was happy with our 4 nights stay. Our 3rd floor room was clean and looked out over a courtyard so it was relatively quiet. The front desk staff were pleasant and did help us with any requests we had. The best part about this hotel is that is is a close, safe and easy walk to all the main attractions of Florence.

Room Tip: ask for an upper floor room

We recently booked the Hotel River based on the four star rating and its agreeable price range. We travel quite often and very rarely are we moved to make comments such as this. First off, the hotel is situated in a nice part of town, right along the river, and within 15-20 minute walking distance of the main sites. Our disappointment came once we checked into the hotel. The staff was underwhelming, to say the least. The room was in pretty bad shape. The bed was good sized, but hard as a rock. We could hear our neighbors speaking in their normal voices right through the walls. In fact, you could clearly hear people using the toilet from all directions (it was quite graphic). The A/C did not work (we realize A/C units are shut down throughout the year), even during the allotted times during the day. When we inquired about the A/C, we were told it was working and we shouldn't worry about it. When we asked the front desk for extra towels, we were told they didn't have any, and even if they did, he didn't have time to bring us any. In fact, every time we asked the front desk for anything we were treated as if we were annoying them. Of course, this was after we had to wait 5-10 minutes while other guests complained to them, and were quickly dismissed and rudely dealt with. As I said before, we are well traveled and we are quite aware of cultural differences. This is not what we experienced. We experienced a rude staff, and poor room conditions. Avoid the Best Western Hotel River at all costs. There are much better choices which will make your experience much more enjoyable. Good luck.
