“An excellent hotel!”
Reviewed 25 July 2010

My wife & I, along with our two teenage sons, stayed at the Orcagna for 4 nights from 19th to 22nd July 2010. The hotel is very clean with good facilities & both our rooms very pleasant with balconies through French doors & ensuite bathrooms. The breakfasts were okay, but best of all were the staff who were cheerful at all times & could not have been more helpful. Approximately 20 mins stroll in the heat to the city centre but hey, it's Florence & you're on holiday, so who cares? Plenty of lovely places to stop along the way for refreshments. If you're looking for clean, affordable accomodation in Florence, you can't go wrong with the Orcagna - can't believe it's only a 2-star hotel!

Hotel is a bit old, but everything is very clean. Room is very spacious, location is quite good. Walking to attractions is a bit far (~30 min), but local bus is very handy and bus stop is near the hotel.
The breakfast is minimum as other has commented (cereals, breads, juices, coffees, etc.). Staffs are useful and friendly, and the breakfast lady is very lovely and friendly! Overall we had a nice stay and will definitely recommend this hotel!!

This hotel is in a great location and you can easily walk to all the tourist sites. The room was large and included a sofa, the bathroom was excellent and there was a small balcony, also limited prebookable car parking. Breakfast was minimal but adequate. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend it. If full they do have a sister hotel over the road,(Hotel Jane) but I haven't been in it.

We stayed at the Hotel Orcagna for eight nights and couldn't believe what a value we received. Our room (the Sculptura #20) faced the street. It was quite large and the bathroom, while small, had all the necessities. Housekeeping kept everything very clean and kindly folded our pajamas over our pillows each night. What a delightful touch.
Breakfast was continental, but typical for us.
Plan to take the local bus to the city center in the mornings, but unless you find a bus schedule don't take it back to the hotel as you may get turned around.
Anyway, we loved the stroll back to Hotel Orcagna, just plan for lots of window shopping.
This was a truly magical trip for us and we fell in love with Florence. Thank you to the staff of Hotel Orcagna.

We originally booked into the sister hotel across the street called Hotel Jane, upon arrival we were informed that the family staying in our room had requested to stay on another night due to one of their children being taken ill and that Hotel Jane was fully booked. Instantly my heart sank, this was all we needed after a long day of travelling and so I waited with baited breath to see what they were going to offer us in way of a compromise. We are reasonable people and understand that sometimes these things happen, after all this obviously was no fault of the hotel’s and I appreciate that they were hardly going to throw a family out onto the street with a sick child, they would have been well within there rights to turn around and say tough here’s your money back. But as with so many reviews of this Hotel on Tripadvisor I can vouch first hand that the staff were lovely, they were so friendly and accommodating and realised that this incident had caused us an inconvenience and couldn’t do enough for us. We were offered the best available room in Orcagna Hotel, which was perfectly adequate for our 2 night stay it had a lovely balcony looking over the street and the room was of a good size and the breakfast was great, they also offered us parking in the garage free of charge to apologise for the inconvenience.

Again as with so many other reviews on this hotel the location is perfect (well it was for us) it really is situated in a lovely neighbourhood and yes it does take 15-20 mins to the city centre but if you head down to the bottom of the street and walk to the city centre along the river it is very pleasant indeed. If I had to pick one downside it would be that the walls/ceiling seemed a little thin, it was only once but we were woken by people in the hall looking for their room during a late check in one night and before going to bed could hear the people upstairs walking around and closing the shutters.

Overall though a very nice hotel in a lovely area, with very friendly staff.

My 25 year old daughter and I stayed at the Orcagna for 4 nites. Booking online can be scarey, but we were so happy with our choice. Room was clean, large by Europe standards, had a stocked little frig and french doors that opened to a balconey that overlooked a garden. One of the coolest things was your room key is an old fashioned big metal key. The front desk personel were so nice and helpful! Great pizza/pasta restaurant around the corner, fun shops and easy access to bus stop. Breakfast was presented everyday by this wonderful older woman (think school cook) who took great pride in how things looked and tasted. Highly recommend to anyone.!!!

I loved the location of the Orcagna. True, it's not in the city centre - it's located about a five minute walk east of Piazza Beccaria, and about a 20 minute walk to the Duomo - in a more residential neighbourhood, which I really enjoyed - you can get more of a feel of what it's like to be a local. It is quite quiet, but just a couple blocks north there is a high street of sorts filled with shops and restaurants, and a large COOP supermarket. I asked for a quiet room overlooking the courtyard and it was charming, with a little balcony (although, keep the terrace doors closed whenever possible - I must have let mosquitos in, because I got absolutely eaten alive one night, and I don't know what it is with Italian mosquitos, but they still itch a week later!) Breakfast is buffet style - lovely croissants, and I'm not even much of a croissant fan - rolls, melba toast with assorted spreads, yogurt, staff will serve you hot drinks. None of the front desk staff (except for one young guy who worked an overnight shift) are fluent in English, so don't expect extensive advice. Price-wise this was the best deal of the trip - $81 Cdn/dbl on weeknights and $140 on weekends.
