“The Perfect Three Star in the Center of Florence”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 November 2009

My hotel preference is always for the perfect three-star hotel. I want the local flavor often missing from a four- or five-star, but not too much local flavor as found in a two-star. Hotel Il Perseo is an extremely good bargain, especially given its location. It is an easy ten minute walk from the train and bus stations and only two blocks from the Duomo. The rooms are simple but comfortable, clean and well maintained. The hotel is on the 3rd and 4th floors, and even my room facing the street was very quiet. The hotel management is very friendly and helpful, even offering a free glass of wine for guests at happy hour! Breakfast is included and adequate. This is a convenient, no-hassle hotel with a friendly attitude. I visited all major tourist sites on foot and got a good feel for Florence -- mainly because of where I stayed.

My husband and I stayed two nights at Hotel Perseo. The staff were very friendly and helpful which made our stay in Florence extra special. The hotel is clean, warm and welcoming (but don't be disturbed by the cage lift door). The happy hour every evening was a nice touch which allowed us to have a chat with other travellers. Definately recommend this place

We had picked Il Perseo because of the overwhelmingly positive reviews and the great location. We were not disappointed. I made many inquiries of the staff via email, and they provided me with the information we needed and made the reservations we desired for museums and restaurants we wanted to make sure we could get into. They had a great continental breakfast and even had a happy hour in the evening with a free glass of wine and light snacks.

The room (at the rear of the hotel) was very clean, more than adequate size, with modern furnishings and flat screen mounted on the wall. The bathroom was fine, with room for my wife and me and a few clothes we washed by hand and hung up to dry. They even had a huge handicapped bathroom near the lobby and a laptop in the lobby for guest use. One interesting thing - which was disconcerting at first - was that they gave you two keys. One is for the door and the other allows you to turn on lights, TV, bathroom exhaust fan, etc. They are on a single ring (with a huge heavy weight on it), so, if you leave the room to go for breakfast and take the key, all the power goes off to conserve electricity. Interesting and quite effective. BTW, you leave your key at the desk with the manager on duty.

It was great there. Also all the desk staff speak adequate to excellent English.

Interesting aspect: Rather than book through one of the booking services, we looked first at their website. We found that with our 4-night stay, they would include either of two free bus sightseeing tours. We picked an 11-hour tour to Siena, San Gimignano and a town in Chianti. While it was more tightly scheduled than we prefer, we likely would have been unable to see those towns without the tour. There was another tour with a shorter stay.

Would recommend Il Perseo without hesitation.

We were recently in Florence with our 5 month old baby. This hotel is very very conviently located for a good price. The rooms are decent size, not noisey and the hotel is not in the business of trying charge for every single extra. Air conditioning / heating is controlled by the guest and the shower water is hot and in abundance.
The staff are real people who genuinely want to ensure you get a real experience not a totally "touristic" experience. Their advice for restaurents where spot on and at the very the least worth a try for some real Italian. We extended our stay to enjoy tuscany, Firenze and their very hospitable happy hour!

I’ve never written a review for TripAdvisor before, but we booked this hotel because of the great TripAdvisor reviews, and it absolutely lived up to our expectations, so I decided to post this. As the reviews mention, it’s an amazing location – just ½ block from the Duomo, 10-minute walk to the train station and walking distance to everything in Florence. It has a great vibe – very friendly and helpful staff; when our room wasn’t quite ready (we got there early), they made us a couple cups of cappuccino (some of the best we had) while we waited for a few minutes and helped us locate places we were looking for on our map. Rates were reasonable, at least off-season; for non-refundable rates (paid in advance on their website) the rooms started at $76Euro/$106US for economy double, and we ended up splurging a bit and booking the Superior Double for $108Euro/$150 US, which was a really incredible room – very large, light and modern w/ TV and an unbelievable view of the duomo and tower right out our window! When we booked, I mentioned we were celebrating our anniversary (we met in Florence 22 yrs ago), and when we got to our room, there was a chilled bottle of champagne waiting for us – so sweet. There is complimentary breakfast in the morning (very good, w/ cereal, toast, cheese, salami, hardboiled eggs, fruit, cappuccino), and free cocktail reception each night, which we enjoyed. We had a wonderful stay; our only complaint was that it was too short; we look forward to coming back again!

The Perseo is located an easy 5 - 10 minute walk from the train station. It is located close to the Duomo. The hotel lobby is on the 3rd floor of the building. Laura and the other front desk staff we're friendly and helpfulf with restaurant recommendations, tips on seeing the sites of Florence, and with train schedules. Our room was clean, quiet and large for a 3 star hotel. The washroom was large, clean and had a good shower. We enjoyed our stay and will recommend the Perseo to friends.
