“Luxury and attention”
Reviewed 23 May 2012

An amazing oasis in the heart of the medieval city. Rather anonymous from the street, this exclusive hotel is a great way to spend a luxury weekend in Florence. With very polite, attentive staff you will never be neglected. All the sites are on your doorstep and the rooftop terrace and bar are an exceptional place to watch the sun set over the Arno. Just bliss!

i had a weekend in Florence and it was like a dream.the city is a must vist.
The hotel is the best choice, very central, amazing view, the cupola dominates! we had a standard room but a v.i.p. service!the room beautiful and clean,no exagerations and all well cared.
the breakfast area so cozy and friendly, with fresh healthy breakfast, italian flavours and capuccino perfect!
The front desk helped us a lot with our entrance to the uffizi, proposed us some sightseeing and was english spoken.
definitely we will visit Florence again and we will be back to the hotel !

Room Tip: do not forget to visit the roofgarden with a glass of wine

From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly inviting and helpful. We checked in early and got to visit to rooftop lounge/restaurant with an unbelievable view of the Duomo. Everything you want to see in Florence is within walking distance of this hotel. The rooms are sparse, but clean. Breakfast was filling and tasty. Make sure you get reservations for the Uffizi and Academia beforehand! We also squeezed in an intimate opera at the St Marks Church, which was wonderful and we highly recommend it.

Antica Torre is a spectacular place to stay. Placed on the river and minutes away from the train station, Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, and many more sights, there could be not a single more convenient location nor exciting location. Because Antica Torre is not a hotel but a Historic Residence, you get a more quiet and more personal feel. But, that said, you still get the wonderful service and cleanliness you would expect of a hotel. My family of four were taken to our room and we gaped at the view we had. Although I assume every room in Antica Torre is wonderful, room 404 is breathtaking. Through the window at night you can see the dark shapes of buildings and then you see, towering over everything else and beautifully lit, the Duomo.

Our room was spotless and perfect. The sleeping was wonderful; the staff even brought in a roll-in bed for my eldest daughter. The bathroom was also very nice. Clean and wonderful.

Every morning we sat and had an excellent breakfast up on the terrace with a view on all sides. In the evening we had a glass of wine on the terrace. The staff was perfect, too. They treated us as if we were their first priority.

If we every go to Florence again (which we hopefully will), we will definitely stay at Antica Torre di Via Tornabuoni.

Room Tip: If I were you I would choose rooms 404 or 501. They are sunny, quiet, and have beautiful views. I am...

We stayed at the Antica Torre in Florence for 2 nights and had an amazing stay. Our room was very spacious (we booked the standard room), plush and loaded with nice amenities (in and out of the room). The view out of our room was unbelievable as we had a perfect view of the dome from the Duomo.
The rooftop patio is a nice addition and one night we grabbed a few glasses of wine and just enjoyed our time outside (and the view!)
Hotel staff was great and prompt. We had an issue with the in room safe and they were up to our room in minutes to fix it.
The location of the hotel couldn't be any better. You are just minutes from great shopping, amazing food and the Ponte Vecchio!

We stayed here for 2 nights, I think it was room 406, which overlooked Via Tournabuoni and had windows & shutters that opened out to the street. The hotel was clean, the room was clean and the room & bathroom were a good size & comfortable. We liked the complimentary block of chocolate too! There only seemed to be about 16 rooms in the whole place so it had a lovely boutique feel.

We thought the location was great - you can basically tour all of Florence’s treasures on foot from this hotel. It was close enough to drop off shopping (the hotel is situated at the end of the designer shopping street in Florence), change clothes for dinner etc but is far enough away from the throng to get a good night’s sleep. It’s situated near the Arno river and is a block from the Ponte Vecchio bridge, mere blocks away from the Uffizi, the Duomo, etc. You can walk to the Santa Maria Novella train station but our bags were heavy and the hotel organised a driver for $35 euro.

The front desk staff were really nice, helpful and spoke great English. (Daniel was from Australia). Daniel recommended 2 great restaurants – one around the corner, I can’t remember the name and Buco Mario. The front desk made all of our dinner reservations and organised tickets etc for various galleries & tours (this is MUCH easier than queuing for ages, especially if you are time poor.)

Daniel showed us all the leather places on a map, there were many markets with stalls in front of shops (the leather at the stalls is of dubious quality and the staff are VERY pushy). The shop ‘Anna’ is a benchmark for good quality leather coats etc. - Piazza Pitti 38-41r (tel. 055-283-787), which is a 5 min stroll over the Ponti Vecchio bridge – once there, head down the stairs in the back, where you'll find fur-collared coats, suede jackets, and vests. They'll do alterations and full tailoring in 24 hours. Anna herself is in her 70’s and gave me a 400 euro discount on a coat. Please mention that ‘Ali from Australia’ recommended her to get a good discount.

The breakfast on the rooftop waslovely with 180 degree rooftop views and lots of good eating options like cooked food, egs, bacon, toast, fruits, cereals, donuts, bruschetta, pastries and much more, including cappuccinos!

We loved the Honesty Bar (you allocate alcoholic drinks to your room no) and we had some generously poured glasses of wine! Everything else at the Honesty Bar is free all day - fruit, nuts, chips, good quality tea & coffee.

Our only bad experience was a haughty, rude, arrogant French matriarch and her family at breakfast one morning but that’s got nothing to do with this wonderful hotel!

This is a great location, right near the river and close to the PonteVecchio, and walking distance from the Santa Maria Novella train station. The views from the room and rooftop terrace are breathtaking. Our room on the top floor was clean and quaint, the bathroom was large with a big tub. I had a hard time getting the water temperature right (and don't flush or turn on sink while shower is running!), but water pressure was great. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast on the rooftop was pretty amazing, both the food and the view.

Room Tip: View from higher rooms is worth it.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
We personally enjoy welcoming our guests, we wish to reinvent the concept of hospitality, and we have the inspiration to provide the warmth of home in every detail. This is how the Antica Torre di Via Tornabuoni 1, Florence came to be: a tower-house built in the mid-12th century by the Guelph family of Ruggerini. At the beginning of the 20th century, this palace became "Pensione Piccioli," and quickly turned into a privileged residence for aristocrats and English writers. Closed after the Great War, Pensione Piccioli reopened in 2001, as a Period Residence called "Antica Torre di Via Tornabuoni 1." Thanks to attentive restoration to preserve all its original charm, the evocative ambiance of the Palace on Via Tornabuoni has regained life and warmth. This magnificent complex is considered one of the typical "tower-houses" of Mediaeval Florence, and, to this day, it still preserves all its characteristic architectural elements: it is an admirable example of the human ability to convert buildings built for war into oases of peace, culture and hospitality. In this ancient tower, we have created a world of harmony, privacy, and attentiveness to our guests' needs. Luxury, peace, and beauty are all in traditional Italian style, and give the concept of comfort new aesthetics. Almost all rooms enjoy an enchanting view of the city or the Arno River, and all are furnished with the highest in comfort: satellite plasma TVs, DVD players, wireless internet connection, direct line telephone, minibar, electronic safe, air conditioning and heating, private marble bath with tub and/or shower, hair dryer, slippers and shoehorns. Some of the Rooms and Suites are decorated with a Renaissance flair: with frescoes, drapes in coloured precious fabrics, bathrooms in red Alcantara or Gold Calacatta marble, and romantic four poster beds. ... more   less
