The roof top terrace is the highlight of his hotel. It is a fabulous setting with a spectacular views while you enjoy your delicious breakfast either outside or inside and on the other side and above the same goes for a relaxing rest or drink from the honour bar any time day or evening. The room was very nice and spacious as described. However the Wi-Fi did not work properly for us and the front desk was of no help. Room tip : do not take a room facing the street, buskers play music in the street below late into the evening.

Room Tip: Do not take a room facing the street.

We had a great time in Florence and largely thanks to this hotel. The location, roof terraces, food, staff and service are all outstanding. A special thanks to Martina at check-in and Lorenzo for the fantastic terrace bar service. On the Arno, across from the Ferragamo flagship store in fForence and walking distance to everything you will want to see--what else could you want.

We stayed here for two nights in May. The hotel is in a 13th century building and has amazing views of the Arno River. Very tasteful decor and lovely staff. A bit spendy but it was worth it to us. The terraces offer a very relaxing respite from the bustling crowds of Florence. One terrace faces the Arno and the other faces the top of the Doumo. We loved sitting out with a glass of wine watching the sun set over the Arno. Just magical.

Florence is amazing and this hotel really made it special. It is beautiful, in a wonderful location, and has excellent service. The room and bathroom were quite large with a nice terrace attached that overlooked the city rooftops. The rooftop bar is great! Just a couple of minor complaints I have was having to pump the toilet button to get it to flush. Also, it takes about 3-4 minutes for the shower water to get warm. The last day our Wifi would not work in our room which is how we checked on our kids back home. These were minor issues and the positives about this hotel made up for this. After much research on the perfect place to stay, I was very pleased with my choice of this hotel.

This was our 3rd stay here. We had a lovely room, 101, with two beautiful bathrooms in the tower. The location is great- you are in walking distance to all major locations and great restaurants. I found the staff to be professional and very helpful- they even arranged dinner for us at 9.30pm and at 10pm the next night.

The highlight of the hotel has to be the terraces- one overlooking the Duomo, the other the river and bridges (which is my favourite). Together with a few cocktails, Lorenzo's Basil Smash is highly recommended, you can spend a few romantic hours here.

Highly recommended and I look forward to our next trip.

p.s. fluffier pillows would be nice!

Room Tip: I would highly recommend room 101 or the library in the tower

If you can afford it, you won't be sorry you spent the extra money. The girl at reception, Martina I believe, allowed us to check in slightly early and then showed up to our room happily and excitedly, telling us anything and everything we needed to know. Our room looked out on the river, and the rooftop breakfast is great. One pigeon existed with an attitude but we chased him off. The view is great, the cappucinos they make are great, and they serve everything from thin-sliced zucchini to steak to kiwis and pineapples out of the buffet. The shower was perfect, the beds were comfortable, the location was great, and even the trattoria close by had great service. Loved it.

Room Tip: Go for one on the river side!

We loved staying here, and would definitely stay here again.

As other reviewers have mentioned, one of the highlights is the fabulous view from the two terraces: one facing the Arno river and the other looking across the city skyline. So we had breakfast overlooking the Arno every day, and one night had dinner on the other side watching a Florentine sunset with an antipasto platter (which we made up ourselves) and bottle of wine.

Our room was clean and spacious, with a bathroom to match.

We found the service very friendly and professional, and the staff did everything they could to help us, especially because we were arriving at different times because of work commitments.

Our only difficulty was with the WiFi, which kept dropping in and out unless you happened to be standing in one particular spot in the room! But that was only a small problem, and very minor in the scheme of things.

Note: This is a boutique hotel in a historical building, NOT a major hotel chain. I only mention this because some of the negative reviewers comment on a lack of things like 24-hour reception (it shuts at 10pm, but they do have a night porter in case of difficulty) or large foyer! So you don't get everything you might expect from a cut-and-paste hotel chain. But on the plus side, you get character and a more personal experience.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
We personally enjoy welcoming our guests, we wish to reinvent the concept of hospitality, and we have the inspiration to provide the warmth of home in every detail. This is how the Antica Torre di Via Tornabuoni 1, Florence came to be: a tower-house built in the mid-12th century by the Guelph family of Ruggerini. At the beginning of the 20th century, this palace became "Pensione Piccioli," and quickly turned into a privileged residence for aristocrats and English writers. Closed after the Great War, Pensione Piccioli reopened in 2001, as a Period Residence called "Antica Torre di Via Tornabuoni 1." Thanks to attentive restoration to preserve all its original charm, the evocative ambiance of the Palace on Via Tornabuoni has regained life and warmth. This magnificent complex is considered one of the typical "tower-houses" of Mediaeval Florence, and, to this day, it still preserves all its characteristic architectural elements: it is an admirable example of the human ability to convert buildings built for war into oases of peace, culture and hospitality. In this ancient tower, we have created a world of harmony, privacy, and attentiveness to our guests' needs. Luxury, peace, and beauty are all in traditional Italian style, and give the concept of comfort new aesthetics. Almost all rooms enjoy an enchanting view of the city or the Arno River, and all are furnished with the highest in comfort: satellite plasma TVs, DVD players, wireless internet connection, direct line telephone, minibar, electronic safe, air conditioning and heating, private marble bath with tub and/or shower, hair dryer, slippers and shoehorns. Some of the Rooms and Suites are decorated with a Renaissance flair: with frescoes, drapes in coloured precious fabrics, bathrooms in red Alcantara or Gold Calacatta marble, and romantic four poster beds. ... more   less
