“Great Hotel, Stop Looking at the Competion”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2010

Our family of 4 stayed here for 4 nights in Late July/Early August. This was a fantastic hotel, I would not bother looking for another hotel if I ever return to Florence. The roof-top terraces are amazing, the service is great, the rooms were fantastic, the location of the hotel is perfect and the breakfast was awesome. We stayed in room 107 [5th. floor] which has it's own private balcony over-lookng the Santa Trinita bridge and the River Arno, no better view in Florence. This Hotel Rocks!

My husband and I stayed here for two nights on our recent trip to Florence. It was a great find - the location is right in the center of things, but you can close the door, turn on the a/c, and completely forget you're in the middle of a big city! We stayed in room 503 - it has a huge terrace, with an amazing view of the Duomo. The room was a nice size, and there is free wireless internet access. The bathroom was small, but not uncomfortably so. We were so comfortable here - after schlepping around Florence all day, in the heat of August, it was wonderful to come home, lay down on the cool sheets, and shut out the hustle and bustle of the city.

As mentioned in many other reviews, the terrace is amazing. The views were gorgeous. Breakfast is served on the terrace, and is a typical continental type breakfast, with a few hot items.

Overall, a great place to stay in Florence.

Fantastic hotel, very attentive staff, exceptional views from both the rooms balcony, and the hotels roof top bar. Luxurious room, exceptionally comfortable beds.

We booked a classic doubleroom and paid €180 per night in this fantastic hotel (we stayed in room 401). It's been the best hotel so far on our 3 week honeymoon trip to Italy. I'm very surprised that this hotel is listed as a "B&B / inn" on Tripadvisor as it's better than any hotel we've stayed at so far in Italy.

We can strongly recommend this place just by the fantastic views from the two rooftop terraces where we had a glass of Chianti Classico by sunset and gasped at the whole experience. It's just amazing!

Excellent service where everybody spoke english and were very friendly - from the tour of the whole hotel at check-in to service at the rooftop bar at breakfast.

Breakfast was very, very good with fresh delicacies and much to choose from. Great coffee bar and breathtaking views over the city.

The location is excellent just 100 meters away from Ponte Vecchio but was a bit tricky to reach by car - we are glad that we used a GPS. Note that parking is €30 per night in a remote garage but the hotel offers valet service so it's nothing to worry about.

Free Wifi but with pretty poor reception in our room (full reception at the rooftop bar).
Clean rooms with good air conditioning and nice bathroom amenities.

Literally tens of good restaurants close to the hotel.

Highly recommended to any honeymooners!!

This little boutique hotel seems to be renovated apartments in a very old building We were upgraded to a suite and it was literally a small apartment - 1200-1500 sq feet with kitchen, living room, dining room and eat in area in the kitchen. Bedroom was huge, bathroom was small but very modern and the rooftop deck is one of the best little secrets of Florence. Breakfast is served on the roof as well as a bar for the evenings. Excellent service by hotel staff, very friendly.

We booked this hotel rather late and are so happy we did. It's well worth the expense because of its perfect location, lovely amenities and friendly staff. The hotel consists of a handful of rooms in a medieval tower just a hundred yards or so from the Porto Vecchio, and you can see glorious sunsets and all of Florence from the rooftop terrace on the seventh floor. A very nice breakfast is served on the sixth floor with the same outstanding views, with outdoor tables an option. During the day, guests can return to the hotel and enjoy free coffee and snacks in the dining area--which is great when you want to sit down and rest or do a little more planning. The room amenities are extremely nice--beautiful linens and marble baths. Our grand deluxe double room (VERY large) had a good-sized sitting area, a long expanse of windows over the city, and a small terrace. Smaller rooms, i.e. the classic double, have a marble bath with shower rather than the larger full bath, with an interior courtyard view, but with the rooftop terrace and breakfast views, it might not matter as much. And free internet in the rooms! We were extremely pleased with this little hotel and will absolutely return.
For those driving to the hotel, please, please, print off a detailed map around the site so you can be prepared for the one way roads. The hotel is right at the intersection of the Ponta a Santa Trinita bridge (Dei Tornabuoni road) and Lungarno Corsini road. At that intersection, even if you don't see the hotel (yes, it's a very old stone tower with a very tiny sign on it), simply park on the side of the road, run across the street to the hotel and check in--the helpful hotel staff will immediately phone the parking garage to send someone over to valet park your vehicle.
And one last thing for those planning to see the David (Academia) and/or the Uffizi--please do take the time to pre-order tickets for both museums and avoid the two to three hour long lines.

I can't rave enough about this hotel! Myself and my boyfriend stayed here the first weekend in May and we can't wait to go back. The hotel staff were all exceptionally helpful and welcoming, before we even arrived! We were forced to rearrange our plans due to the volcano flight restrictions and Denise and Cristina in particular couldn't have done more to help us out. Our room was very comfortable and elegant, breakfast was very pleasing but what's special are the central location and the two wonderful terraces with the most amazing views of Florence. Eating breakfast on the terrace facing the Duomo is just incredible! We're totally spoilt now and I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else in Florence! We love city breaks and have been lucky to stay in some lovely hotels but this one tops them all.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
We personally enjoy welcoming our guests, we wish to reinvent the concept of hospitality, and we have the inspiration to provide the warmth of home in every detail. This is how the Antica Torre di Via Tornabuoni 1, Florence came to be: a tower-house built in the mid-12th century by the Guelph family of Ruggerini. At the beginning of the 20th century, this palace became "Pensione Piccioli," and quickly turned into a privileged residence for aristocrats and English writers. Closed after the Great War, Pensione Piccioli reopened in 2001, as a Period Residence called "Antica Torre di Via Tornabuoni 1." Thanks to attentive restoration to preserve all its original charm, the evocative ambiance of the Palace on Via Tornabuoni has regained life and warmth. This magnificent complex is considered one of the typical "tower-houses" of Mediaeval Florence, and, to this day, it still preserves all its characteristic architectural elements: it is an admirable example of the human ability to convert buildings built for war into oases of peace, culture and hospitality. In this ancient tower, we have created a world of harmony, privacy, and attentiveness to our guests' needs. Luxury, peace, and beauty are all in traditional Italian style, and give the concept of comfort new aesthetics. Almost all rooms enjoy an enchanting view of the city or the Arno River, and all are furnished with the highest in comfort: satellite plasma TVs, DVD players, wireless internet connection, direct line telephone, minibar, electronic safe, air conditioning and heating, private marble bath with tub and/or shower, hair dryer, slippers and shoehorns. Some of the Rooms and Suites are decorated with a Renaissance flair: with frescoes, drapes in coloured precious fabrics, bathrooms in red Alcantara or Gold Calacatta marble, and romantic four poster beds. ... more   less
