Grazie mille Umberto for that unforgettable experience. Che hotel! So first this room sounded too good to be true, a room with a view of arguably the most SPECTACULAR Duomo in the country, pfft... We didn't have that kind of money, right? WRONG! Our money bought as more than we could ever have dreamed of. We did not have to spend money on transportation for ourselves because it would have almost been impossible to be closer to the Duomo and all the main Florentine attrarctions. You literally must only stretch out your arm of the window to take the classic tourist view of it - no zoom required!
Umberto is the proprietor is the best host - he didn't bat an eyelid when we borrowed spoons from his kitchen and filled up water from his sink (but don't all try it, you can queue up for the bathroom). Don't be put off by the shared bathroom facilities, no problems here, although make aware yourself that the wi-fi area consists of a chair in the corridor outside which what would be the bathroom queueing area if you were in queue.
Discover the rest for youself!

Room Tip: Room 3 = a room with a view

Fantastic! One of the cheapest places in Florence and right on the Duomo (Cathedral) Square. Request room #6, the medieval suite, for a large, expansive room with astounding views of the Duomo. It can be loud, but turning on the fan in the room drowns out most of the noise. It comes with a private bathroom, but it's out in the hall so that's the only very minor drawback. We initially had another room, which was much smaller and had no view, so go for the medieval suite if you can. Make sure to prearrange your arrival time (reception is not available in the afternoon), and you'll have no problems.

This is a fantastic central hotel and I think our room must have the best views in Florence. The hotel is basic but extremely charming. Umberto the manager is very friendly and helpful and helped us with little extras such as taxis and information. The room was a fantastic size and the views are beautiful! You can see the Duomo and Battistero as if they were right next to you and the hotel is on the corner of the Duomo Piazza. We had a separate private toilet and shower room with a key and this was cleaned daily. The hotel is on the 2nd floor and there is a very small elevator for luggage (and one person at a time). Wi-fi is available in the common area but not in the rooms. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it!

Room Tip: Choose Room 6 - the best views by far!

Our room, overlooking the Piazza Doumo was lovely. Comfortable bed, good shower, and very helpful staff. We were able to check in early - even if your room is not ready, you can leave your bags. Good security to the building, and right in the heart of everything. Reasonably quiet at night, and the bells don't start too early! There is a small lift as well, should you need it. It provided a great base for exploring Florence, and I would stay there again.

This is a good value for money option right in the centre of the action. It is at the corner of Via de Cerretani and Borgo San Lorenzo, at the start of the Duomo Square. Look for the entry slightly set back next to a bookshop. It is on the second floor. The lift is tiny (one person with luggage or two without) and you need to be careful as the door gives directly onto the stairs.

We arrived mid-morning and were welcomed by Umberto. We were hoping to just leave our luggage, but our room was ready and he let us check in.

The room is large with a double bed (two twins pushed together) and a single, with a table in case you want to bring a takeaway to the room. The ensuite bathroom has a decent shower.

The main issue is noise. As you would expect, being at the corner of the Duomo Square, there is plenty of street noise late into the evening, somewhat moderated by double-glazing. And although this is a pedestrian area, commercial vehicles can access it from about 7am, when is also when the first bell tolls. But perhaps the more unexpected aspect is how noisy the hotel itself is. The floors creak, and doors slam. As most of the rooms are not ensuite, there is not just the usual coming and going, but also the noise made by people going to and from the bathrooms. Room 9 is an ensuite room facing the back. You don't get the view, but it should deal with the street noise. Otherwise, if noise bothers you, bring earplugs.

This is a clean, comfortable one-star option. Remember that it is a one-star, and don't expect features of more expensive hotels. Because it is so central, we found ourselves coming back for a rest between seeing different attractions.

Room Tip: Room 9 will be quieter but lacks the view.
