I almost felt as though I could reach out of my window and touch the Duomo. Huge room with an amazing view, this hotel is great value for money. We spent four nights in Florence and totally fell in love with the place.
The place was neat and tidy, but don't expect 5 star luxury, it has the basics which were more than adequate during our stay. In terms of price and location, you cant get much better!

The hotel is located just 20-30m from the city Duomo. If you get a corner room, you probably will see the Duomo from your window. We unfortunately couldn't get the corner room. Still we can just lean out off the window can see Duomo from the window.
The owner is also nice and gave a lot of helpful advices about restaurants. We followed his advices and tried several local places. They were all great.
The bad things about this hotel is the building is very very old (of course, it is in Florence). So the we did not pay much attention about it. However, I expected the bed mattress not to be as old as the building.
Overall, I was quite happy staying here.
It is a beautiful hotel in the main square of the city. Our room was really big and beautiful. The bathroom was "minimal" but good if you only need a place to sleep. No breakfast included, but it is ok since it is a really cheap hotel in a great place of Florence downtown. I would come back there!
My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights. The location is AMAZING and perfect for a short trip. Check in was easy- the hotel took a little to find but it's right near the duomo. The room was very clean. The double bed was really just two mattresses pushed together and it was a little annoying that they fell apart. We had a private bathroom that was very clean and had hot water. The owner is very sweet and welcoming and it was really easy to follow the instructions for check in. Id recommend to anyone who is on a budget!
I really liked Hotel San Giovanni. Umberto was a great host, he was friendly and welcoming, and we couldn't ask for any more. The location is right in central Florence, and although some guests have reported it to be noisy, where we were in Room 9 at the back of the hotel, it was not noisy at all, and with the benefit of being close to the WiFi connection, so we didn't have to sit in the communal area to surf the 'net. However, we didn't have a view of Florence from the room as a consequence.. but is that really important? You can't have it all, and to us, who were out exploring all day, the loss of the view was not a problem. Everything else was fine, but just be warned that the shower and toilet is quite a small space. Larger people may struggle due to the confinement. We were ok though, and had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Thank you.
We have just ended our stay with san giovanni and it was great! The location can't be beat and the price is very reasonable. We had no problems with check in...we told the owner when we were arriving and he was there but also gave us the automatic codes so we could let ourselves in if there were any travel changes. There were no bed bugs and we stayed in the same room a previous reviewer commented had bed bugs. The hotel was very clean so we aren't sure what this other review was referring to. Overall a very pleasant experience and we would definitely recommend the hotel if you are staying in Florence!
