If you want to be right in the middle of it all - on the Arno, between the Uffizi and the Ponte Vecchio, look no farther. All the rooms are quite different; we were originally booked into one room but asked to change as it was quite loud after the first night (it faced into the alley, not unattractive, but on a Friday night). The hotel was very gracious in offering us not only a quieter room, but one much larger and definitely an upgrade.
The hotel was spotless, though a little old, and a bit confusing (there are 2 sections) when you're walking around the first day or two. Part of the charm!
The breakfast room is lovely, and the food very good (though if you're there more than a few nights, know the food, while plentiful, doesn't change from day to day).
For me, they were extraordinarily nice in bringing me a small basket of gluten-free baked goods each morning (they were not baked on site, but who cares?). For someone who is unable to eat all the breads and pastries laid out, it was extremely comforting.
Speaking of which, the beds are QUITE hard. It's great if you sleep on your back - they're not uncomfortable, but if you're a side-sleeper, it might be hard on your shoulders!
The staff mostly all speak very good English - you should have no trouble if you do not speak Italian. They were also very helpful with maps and bus schedules and getting taxis and such. A wonderful week-long visit!

Room Tip: Ask for a room that does not face into the Alley, unless you're at least 3 floors up.

My family rented three rooms during Christmas. We arrived by train from Siena very early and the front desk gave us all three rooms right away. The rooms were large, well appointed and exceptionally clean. The staff was attentive and friendly. If you're going to Florence, this is the place to stay. Very close to the attractions and quiet for when you're done for the day. Highly recommended.

13 guests participated in this tour which was led by Master of Wine, Peter Scudamore-Smith. The group stayed for three nights and were delighted with the standard of the rooms and the service from the staff. The welcome drinks on the terrace with views of the Ponte Vecchio and the Duomo was superb. Our guests loved the central location and we will be taking our tour group back again in 2012.

We reserved a room with a view and got a room that we'd walk into a living area with TV. Off that room there was a huge bathroom, with tub/shower (big enough for two...yes, we verified that! ha ha) and a stairway that led up to the bedroom. Then, the big surprise was that in addition to the view from the bedroom windows of the Duomo, there was a door that led us out onto our own private balcony overlooking the rooftops and onto the Duomo that had a small table and chairs. How cool was that?! The only bad thing about all that was having to work with the stairway to get to and from the bedroom and to your luggage storage area and the bathroom, but a minor inconvenience when you consider you have a private balcony and a great view.

Notes about the breakfast room being crowded was not an issue for us, but maybe it's depending on time. We tended to eat around 8:30a and never had an issue. Breakfast was very nice selection of typical European flair and good quality. The other public areas of the hotel were also very nice, but we nor anyone else seemed to be enjoying those while we were there.
Bottom line is that we enjoyed this hotel and glad I stumbled across it on TA. Will definitely recommend it to others!

We were on a mult-city trip in Italy and the Hotel Degli Orafi in Florence was by far the best hotel we stayed at. Great customer service from front desk, bell clerks and wait staff. Wonderful rooms, great bathroom, fantastic location. Right around the corner from many great "must see" attractions. Would highly recommend and we will go back to the Degli Orafi.
