“Central location, quiet hotel, good value in a high-tourist city”
Reviewed 18 November 2010

This little hotel is centrally located and within walking distance of most of Florence's main attractions. However, it is on an upstairs floor with a very small elevator and a dark, dingy stairway. But never fear, persevere and you will be rewarded with a great little hotel in a city that is flooded with tourists (and tourist prices) all year round.
Our room was just right -- a comfortable king size bed, flat-screen TV and a spotless bathroom, a quiet room though it's in the middle of things. Free use of a computer down the hall is very helpful. Breakfast room is small, but the food is plentiful and fresh daily -- cappuccinos and other coffees made to order, plus juices, mineral water, croissants, rolls, cheese, prosciutto, fruit, cereals and milk, and pastries. Also, they serve beer and/or coffee and tea at night, They have a price list on the wall, but the one night we got tea in our room, they did not charge us for it. (Thanks!) Staff was very helpful and pleasant, answering questions about how to get around or how to buy train tickets or postcard stamps, and about the culture and history of the city and its sights. One caution: Florence still has mosquitoes in late October. Like most homes and hotels in Italy, the Colomba doesn't have screened windows like Americans are used to. We were issued a bug bomb to plug into the wall at night to fight the zanzare, but we opted instead to simply swat the one or two we found in the room (over a 4-night stay), and slept just fine. Owners speak English (one is Australian), which is most helpful. A recommended restaurant was moderately priced, and the food was good. We enjoyed our stay!

We picked this hotel based on reviews in Trip Advisor and were not disappointed. The location means very easy walking to everything you need to see in Florence. Rosanna and her husband are wonderful hosts. Expect to pay for car parking - valet parking or self-parking at a slightly cheaper rate. Also recommend the "spaghettaria" just up the road towards the Duomo on the left hand side of the road.

This was a last minute booking and we chose this hotel on the basis of the reviews on Trip Advisor. It definitely exceeded our expectations. Don't be under any illusions, this is not a luxurious hotel but it was comfortable, very clean and in an excellent location, just steps from the Piazza del Duomo. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the breakfast was good so all in all, excellent value for money.

Loved the family atmosphere, the proximity to the heart of Florence and especially Rosanna's excellent coffee in the mornings. The staff were friendly and helpful and their local knowledge was very useful for events, museum queues etc.

The hotel is conveniently located so close to every point of interest in Florence (Uffizi,Accademia, the Duomo, Central market, and many piazzas and restaurants, 10-15 minutes walk to SMN Train Station). The hotel is owned and operated by very nice, helpful couple (Rossana and Mechele) who kept us informed with places to see and eat . Communicating with us in English was no problem. Our room was very clean, quiet, with all necessary amenities. We enjoyed having a late night tea, cappuccino in the company of the owners. Breakfast was very satisfying with plenty of choices and the friendly face of Sabina. After a long day of sightseeing, the presence of the elevator was welcome. We are a mature American couple that have traveled to many countries in the world and strongly recommend such a pleasurable hotel

We had a wonderful, quiet and long stay with these great hosts. They helped us with tickets and lots of travel advice. The breakfasts were delightful and we are spoiled forever by Rosanna's cafe lattes and cappuchinos. The location was perfect for walking everywhere. They are the place to stay for artists. Their multi-lingual skills were very welcome!

Very very good. Great hosts with perfect English, Barista coffee at breakfast, slight limited selction of food but it is complmentary.

Large rooms, very quiet but so close to everything., Duomo 5 mins walk away!

Excellent rate for Florence.

Rooms clean, large, very slightly dated but well above 3 star standard.

Go to the winebar at the Pitti Palace, reviewed on trip advisor. No 1 resturant in Florence by memory. Just brilliant!
