“Wonderful pleasant hotel with great rooms in a peaceful piazza in central Florence”
Reviewed 26 February 2013 via mobile

Stayed here for 3 nights on a wine buying trip. Have known Florence for many years and this is in a superb location just off centre in a small peaceful piazza about 5 minutes walk from the train station for those arriving by train, and only 10 minutes along the river to the Ponte Vecchio or the Duomo. Nice spacious lobby/reception area, and the quirky corridors and having to change lifts on the second floor to get another lift that went to the 6th floor all added to the fun and the charm. Was upgraded free to a larger room on arrival, which has a huge spacious room on the 6th floor with a wonderful view of the piazza and church. Even better was there was a chocolate fair on in the piazza so all the tents added to the charm of the square. Bathroom was also spacious, as was wardrobe, and rooms were kept spotlessly clean every day. The in room safe was good,(& free to use), and there was also a gym/pool/sauna. Breakfast was good, nice variety of meats, cheeses, fruit, cooked food, breads, pastries, yoghurts and drinks. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful, and it was a nice touch that they always remembered your room number on returning for your key!! All in all, a very pleasant, stress free and relaxing experience. Probably in the top two hotel stays I have ever had in Florence. I would easily reccomend this hotel to anyone, & if you get bored of the culture, food & wine of Florence, there is even an Irish Bar next door run by a Scotsman..!!

The location was great and both public areas in the hotel and our room were excellent. Fantastically comfortable bed and nice bathroom. Breakfast buffet excellent.

The only thing that let down the hotel a little was the service at breakfast. The breakfast staff seemed to have highest priority on re-laying all the tables, even though there was no shortage of laid-up tables and they did not do the usual thing of approaching guests to see if a hot drink was wanted. Even after being approached with the request, the task in hand (re-laying the table) was finished before the drinks were fetched. Breakfast finished by then!

So a bit more training on customer service priorities I think would help.

but we just liked it. The location is perfect and the hotel is beautiful. Huge rooms, marble bathrooms, amazing terrace with a view and great breakfast. Easy walk from the train station, close to all the sights - mercato centrale, the Duomo, Academia, the Arno and fabulous shopping. But the bed was horrible, even by European standards. Maybe it was just our room, but we barely felt refreshed after a night's sleep. Quite frustrating in a city like Florence where you want to have energy to walk all day and night. We also had an issue with our hair dryer - after about 60 seconds it turned off and wouldn't come back on for 15 minutes or so. We let the front desk know and they sent someone up while we were out only to report that it worked for him for 10 minutes...not sure what the issue was there but we never got it to work correctly. Wouldn't have been SO bad in the summer, but when the high is 40 degrees going out with damp hair is not an option. We had very high expectations for this hotel and wanted to be wowed, but it was just ok. Not sure we would stay here again.

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights in the Santa Maria Novella Hotel at the end of a multi-city business trip to Italy. In Florence, we were simply there for the architecture, the art, and the food -- and, of course, the shopping. The Santa Maria Novella was in a perfect location, a walk from the train station, near the Duomo and other major attractions, and close to plenty of great shopping and restaurants. The staff were delightful, the room was classically Florentine elegant, and the view from our window of the piazza was quite nice. Our only complaint -- a small one -- was that the bath tub-shower combination was such that the shower curtain rubbed up against one's body during a shower, a small discomfort, given everything else. We highly recommend the hotel for anyone desiring a reasonably priced, elegant, comfortable, and nicely located place to stay in Florence.

Great location away from the masses on a peaceful square yet 10 minute walk to all major museums, duomo, etc.; friendly and responsive staff; good sized rooms with top notch furnishings including comfortable beds and fine linens; wonderful breakfast buffett; truly became our home away for 4 nights; great value and highly recommend; get a room facing the church.

Room Tip: rooms facing the church square are the best choice

I traveled by myself to Florence for business in January. The location was excellent, and as a young female I felt extremely safe both in the hotel and outside.

They have a gym with weights, treadmill (which I used), stair climber and sauna.

I had an early AM flight out and they prepared a "breakfast box" for me to take to the airport. It was full of snacks and drinks that I took advantage while I was waiting for the airport to open (got there at 4:45 am). They also printed out my boarding passes for me and arranged a taxi to be ready when I got from my room to the lobby.

My room had two floors with living room and full bath on the first and bedroom on the second. It felt like I was living in some charming apartment in Florence.

I did travel during Florence's low season for tourists, but I wouldn't hesitate to book this hotel again.

Room Tip: Room 532 is two stories with amazing views of both the Duomo and Bell Tower and Santa Maria Novella...
