We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. I had been saving for quite a while to go to Italy to celebrate my 50th Birthday. The hotel is really lovely. The rooms are spacious with good air conditioning. The bathrooms are really nice - all marble with lovely fluffy white towels. The bedding is top quality. Although many areas within Florence are quite noisy, once inside the Santa Maria, you cannot hear anything. We had some really lovely nights sleep whilst staying there. The hotel is exceptionally clean. The roof terrace is a nice extra touch for chilling out and watching the world go by. The only downside we found with this hotel is that some of the staff are quite stuck up. They appeared to make a fuss of any of the guests who they expected tips from, i.e. people from the US. We did have some queries about public transport, i.e. trains and bus times. We were told that it would be better if we took a taxi everywhere. Unfortunately, our budget did not stretch to 60 mile journeys. Also, at breakfast, the waiting staff would make a bee line for the American guests, asking them what drinks they would like with their meal. On each morning, we had to seek out the staff to make our drinks request. Overall, you cannot fault this hotel as a building, but, from our experience, unless you are prepared to leave tips for everything, do not expect any great service from the staff.

Room Tip: We witnessed a man asking for an upgrade to a room facing the church square. We asked for an upgrade...

Stayed here 2 years ago (october/november 2010), and it was absolutely fantastic. Glad to see they are still getting great reviews, and I can continue to recommend. I could not have asked for a better hotel. Everything was perfect from the welcoming staff and location to the rooms and meals

This was our first stop in Italy. I can't think of one negative regarding this hotel. The room was spacious and very well appointed. I found the bed to be really comfortable - a much appreciated feature after a 30 hour trip! I really enjoyed sitting in the beautiful breakfast room each morning eating a delicious buffet. The staff are friendly and helpful and I loved the quirkiness of the furnishings. The location is excellent - on a beautiful piazza and convenient to the major tourist sites and the railway station.

We enjoyed 4 great days at this hotel on our way to Rome. It is in a perfect location, 5 minutes walk from the main train station and not far from all the main sites and squares in Florence. We were upgraded to the Bridal Suite on the top floor which has its own large balcony overlooking the Square and Church of Santa Maria Novella.
The room was great, air conditioning worked really well, nice shower and bath.
The staff were very very friendly and accommodating.
If you are planning a short or long trip to Florence I would recommend this hotel without question.
The area around the location is safe and reasonably quiet too.
A nice breakfast room with really good choices but No restaurant for dinner in the hotel but with so many eating places around you are better off eating out anyway.
Give it a go, and my compliments to all the hotel.

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the square with a balcony if you can

My husband and I loved this hotel! Beautiful, comfortable room-very clean. The hotel staff was so warm and helpful - and spoke excellent English. The location is perfect since it's just a block from the train station and an easy walk to all the museums, cathedrals and markets. I liked that it was right on the piazza so it felt like you were in the center of things but the acoustics were so good in the hotel that it was quiet and peaceful. Breakfast was delicious, with something for everyone and we loved the view from the roof terrace. Will definitely stay there again if we return to Florence!

We stayed here on our honeymoon and thought it was worth every penny. The rooms are beautiful and the beds are comfy. We loved the location since we took the train up from the coast and were dragging heavy baggage. The staff was nice and helpful with directions and reservations. Our favorite part was the spacious bathroom and shower AND heated towel rack. The breakfast was great- thrilling to see yogurt and fresh fruit after the junk put out at our previous hotel. Our only complaints would be that we found it odd to be asked to return the key when leaving the room each time. Would definitely recommend staying here!
