We had a delightful stay in Hotel Lorena. Our room, on the 3rd floor, overlooked to Medici Chapel front door and the daily market area. If you leave the windows open, you can hear the sounds of Florence going to bed in the evening and waking up each morning. Glass crashing, market carts on the move and many different languages abound. This was a perfect choice of hotel and location for our short time in Florence. We definitely recommend this well kept, comfortable and traditional hotel

Room Tip: Room 33 was a great room for the view. Very comfy. The hotel is on a. Very busy corner. It will b...

For the price and location, this hotel is great. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful, especially the gentleman who greeted us on our arrival Friday afternoon and went out of his way to be helpful. I think we would have done better with the others had we'd known some Italian. :)

Though you have to walk up one flight of stairs to the reception area, be encouraged! There is an elevator to get you to all the other floors! I hadn't realized this and was pleasantly surprised. Our room was the top floor corner room. It had a great view of the square and Capelle Medici. We had requested a quiet room and I think that they tried to accommodate. One must be warned that weekends are a little bit noisy in the streets below due to late night parties/drinking at the restaurants. Also, the mornings can be a bit noisy from the garbage trucks, etc. running their routes in the early mornings. To combat this problem the hotel has put in quality windows but the noise can still be noticeable even with this good effort.

Our room was spacious and had an en-suite bathroom. Everything in the bathroom worked great. The only drawback to the set-up is with the shower curtain. The showers in Europe are smaller than in the US but definitely adequate in size. In this bathroom, however, the hot water causes the shower curtain to pull in towards you while taking a shower which may make you feel a bit claustrophobic.

The hotel provides a hair dryer which is nice because in Europe the bathrooms don't allow you to plug in your hair styling appliances due to not allowing outlets strong enough for such tools. They only provide a shaver outlet. But do be forewarned if you have lots of hair to dry as the dryer handle is basically the tube where the hot air is blown through. After a bit, the tube gets really hot - too hot to handle, so I found a towel to insulate my hand from the heat and that took care of the problem. It was great to be able to blow-dry my hair in the bathroom, so if you are comfortable with this fix, you'll not mind it a bit.

The bed was very comfortable. We slept well on it. The breakfast was what I liked the best. The staff make up a cappuccino or a café leche (I believe it was called) for you each morning to order, or you can have black coffee or tea. Quite the luxury, I felt. They also offer breads, yogurt, cereal, juice, etc. It was very filling and satisfying.

Overall, it was a great experience as the hotel is so convenient to the train station (allowing us to get rid of our luggage quickly) and is close to the main attractions. What a city! I loved Florence!

This hotel was wonderful. The staff was so helpful & accommodating & speak some English. Great location. You are about 2 minutes from the Duomo & a 5 minute walk from the train station. We walked everywhere from this location. There is a café below the hotel that is simple charming. We drank wine there every evening. The only drawback at Hotel Lorena is you need to go up 1 flight of stairs in order to get to the front desk & they have a very small elevator, room for 1 person & luggage. We did not mind but if you have small children in strollers or use a wheelchair this is not the hotel for you. We stayed on the top floor with a magnificent view & used the stairs. We arrived 2 hours early for check in after travelling for about 22 hours from the US with very little sleep & we were pleasantly surprised when our room was ready for us. We had a double & a single bed a huge private bath & a small fridge & air conditioning. We were there 9/6/2013-9/9/2013 when it was quite hot. I really have nothing bad to say about Hotel Lorena & should we ever have the chance to return to Florence, we will definitely stay here again. We highly recommend this hotel. The price was great.
Thanks to Lorenzo & the rest of the staff:)

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view. You won't be disappointed.

It’s a two star hotel so we weren’t exactly expecting fabulous accommodations, but oh my dear… there was an actual bathTUB?! It’s the first one we had on the entire trip! Everywhere else we stayed only had a shower stall. Also, the hotel was clean, comfortable, and had a great location right by the San Lorenzo Church! Our particular room also had a cute little fireplace. Highly recommend!

I loved the location of Hotel Lorena, so close to the Duomo and the train station, and they kindly held our luggage during the day after we checked out. It was so fun to open our window at night and hear the sounds of the city at night. And their recommendation for the restaurant next door was excellent. Wifi worked well, except for logging in every time.

Room Tip: a couple rooms share a bathroom, it wasn't too bad, but just realistic when booking your room.

This hotel thrives in the following:

1. Comfy bed
2. GREAT Location (see the reviews of others, they will mention this throughout!)
3. No noise

After travelling from city to city throughout Italy, one yearns for a comfortable bed. Thank goodness Lorena provided this! I slept like a baby considering we could not hear our neighbors, other guests, and the outside travelers. There are different room options in Lorena. You can opt to share a bathroom with other guests or have a private one in your own room. Thankfully the fiance (boyfriend at the time) opted to have our own. It was much more convenient than walking down the hall to share -- Although we did not see anyone in the shared restroom each time we walked by.

The location is great. You are close to everything you want to see as well as restaurants all around. **The BEST Florence steak is found outside of the hotel. When you walk out of the hotel, turn right pass the bar and walk directly to the alley in front of you. The restaurant is on the corner of the Alley and gets very packed. BEST FLORENTINE TBONE!!! The Gare is about 5 minutes, but may take longer if your pulling your luggage through the pave stones on the floor. They are very uneven (which makes it that more beautiful) but doesn't do well for some luggage. You can walk to all major tourist sites from the hotel and there is 1euro stores around it so you can buy all your water! They also have a great gelato place when you walk outside of the hotel to your left.

What we didn't like about the hotel is that their policy is to change towels every other day because they are a 2 star hotel in that particular region. Also, you CANNOT leave the Air Conditioner running when you leave your room for the day. Their AC was NOT working well so it took awhile to get the room at a comfortable temperature. Travelling through the Summer is extremely uncomfortable because of the heat. After coming back to the hotel, we want cold air, but the AC was not strong at all. ***If they find your room with the AC on, they will turn it off for you!***

There is no refrigerator, so buy your water at the 1euro stores around the corner. Even though we opt for a private bathroom, it was very small and the shower uses the same floor as the bathroom. What separates the shower is a curtain only, so please make sure you do not put things nearby or it will get wet (including the toilet paper! -- we wondered why they put it in a space where it could possibly get wet). Anyways, I recommend slippers when showering. I don't like the idea of being on bare floor showering.

We were not a fan of their staff. They lacked customer service. During our stay, we met three different front desk workers. Note, there is no one in the lobby between 2am-8am. What's weird is that you leave your key in a basket at the front desk. We didn't like this idea because anyone could "accidentally" pick up our key and come in our room. The night shift guy by far lacked the most customer service. Upon check in, rather than telling us the policies of the hotel, he gave it to use and said "read it." So we stood there, reading. We had internet issues, and he didn't help us. Instead, he made us feel like we had no idea what we were doing. The morning man was nice, but he didn't understand what we were asking him. The lady staff was regular. She gave us another password for the wifi and told us to turn our AC off when we leave (as if we didn't get enough reminders for this). Wifi is limited to ONE device only, so you cannot share in the room if you have multiple devices. Lastly, we didn't like how the bathroom had this stench due to lack of ventilation. The ventilation was an inside window that opens to the bedroom.

Hotel Lorena is a family run hotel with a great location. During the day and early evening there is always someone at the desk. They were very helpful with recommendations and warnings of overcrowding at some museums. The hotel is clean with reasonable sized rooms. The location is less than 10 minutes from the main train station and less than 10 seconds from the Medici Chapel. It was a terrific location as a base to explore Florence. Only wish that we could have stayed longer.
