Me and my wife stood there for 3 nights in our honeymoon... and the service was excellent.. the happy hour time is great and the care for the guests is amazing.. we even got a bottle of wine as a gift for our honeymoon :)

The room we stood was a bit noise - not sure if it was a bar next to the hotel... but nothing that would disturb our sleep that much...

The movie selection in the room is excellent and free to use... very good to sleep watching some television for those who like it..

Really nice place. Comfortable bed and all the mod cons and a very good price considering the set up. Shame we only stayed for a stop over before flying home as it would've been nice to stay over.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Hotel Davanzati in Florence. We enjoyed our stay very much, primarily due to the extraordinary level of customer service provided by Fabrizio and Tomasso. As many have mentioned, nothing is too much trouble for these two. We kept having difficulties with the A/V system in the room. While providing us with an interesting running commentary on the intricacies of updating hotel A/V, Fabrizio personally replaced our digital box in order to make sure that we would have service. He also booked train tickets for us, and gave valuable input on places to eat in the area that were absolutely on target.

Yes, the steps to the Davanzati are a pain. The granite cobbled streets of Florence are a pain, too, though, so one had better be prepared for that as well. The Davanzati's location could not be better--it is such easy access to the Ponte Vecchio, a short stroll to the Uffizi and major shopping, and within reach of anything in central Florence. We did opt to take a cab to the hotel from the train station, and with bags, I think this is much easier. We ended up making the walk to that area a couple of times, and it is a breeze, but the streets are so uneven that it would not have been fun lugging bags behind.

One caveat I would mention just so that people will not be surprised. There are times that the breakfast room at the hotel in the morning is just downright noisy. I think that is because there is sometimes a lot of clearing and cleaning of plates and cups going on at the same time that people are eating. A couple of times we had breakfast and it was a cacophony of clattering cups and plates, which was not particularly enjoyable. The other two times it was nice and quiet. This might have been some type of an aberration, but on two days it did take away from our otherwise perfect stay. However, this is a wonderful hotel run by people who really care about their guests. They really should write a book on customer service. I would recommend the Hotel Davanzati to anyone visiting Florence.

I've stayed in a range of hotels from 5 star to economy and must say that this hotel is my favorite. It was very special. When we arrived the happy hour with Italilan pop music, candlelights and free drinks (proseco & chianti) was in full swing. One of the owners, Fabrizio, was on duty most of the time during our stay (5 days). He sent us to wonderful restaurants based on our preferences, helped guide us in leather shopping and with figuring out how to get to our next stop. Amazing service! He made our trip to Florence very special.

Setting the stage: In Florence to collect our college student at the conclusion of her semester in Florence.

First impression: Difficult to find. Schlepped luggage up 26 stairs. Buzzed into elevator and up one more floor, then arrived at lobby. Had some concerns...

The reality: Wow - The dashing grandson Tomasso, who speaks perfect English, escorts us to a deluxe junior suite (2 bathrooms, 1 bedroom with large bed, 1 loft with double or two separate beds, 1 small loft with a single bed, living room with sofa). So we were able to enjoy our student and her friends for wine and appetizers and had plenty of sleeping room - and privacy - to accommodate two students and we, the parents.

The pros: loved the family - grandpa, dad and grandson - Fabrizio was as affable and accommodating as they come - helped with all manner of questions about logistics, food, site visitation, etc. Breakfast was yummy, the wine and app hour was lovely - we met many interesting people.

The cons: none to speak of. Unless you desire a location that is not smack-dab in the middle of all of the activity that is Florence...

The extraordinary: Our daughter had two massive suitcases seeing that she had packed to return to the States - but, we were staying in Italy for another week to visit more of Tuscany and the Ligurian coast and loathed the idea of lugging those cases around in our tiny rent car. After much ringing of hands and gnashing of teeth, I called Fabrizio and asked if we could store the luggage at the Davanzati. Without hesitation, he answered in the affirmative! A week later, we retrieved out bags and tried to compensate for the imposition. Fabrizio would hear none of that and wished us bon voyage...

Bottom line: Even mediocre accommodations can be made up for with superior service. In this case of the Davanzati, the accommodations were superior and the service even more so. We would definitely recommend, and will surely stay at, the Davanzati upon a return to Florence.

Room Tip: Highly recommend the deluxe junior suite: 2 bathrooms, 1 bedroom with large bed, 1 loft with double...

This was a fantastic place to stay, Perfect location and great staff. You definitely feel like your staying at someones home. We had two rooms one for my wife and I and one for our children. The rooms were clean, comfortable and a good size. They offer a very good breakfast and an enjoyable happy hour. The staff was the best and helpful in all areas. I highly recommend staying here. One thing take a cab from the train station. The hotel does have steps that require being in good shape to go up but the place more the makes up for them.

This is a lovely and very conveniently located hotel in central Florence, close to all the major sites with pleasant, large rooms and plenty of amenities. A daily guest reception, well stocked travel library, free Wi-Fi and iPad collection (for reading newspapers) begin to give an indication of the hotel’s emphasis on guest service.

But what really sets it apart is the hotel manager who simply exudes a sense of someone who truly enjoys being an hotelier and serving his guests. From the moment we checked it, he made it clear that he was committed to making our stay a pleasant one. Whether juggling multiple arrivals quickly and politely or providing recommendations for what to see and where to eat, he was always generous with his time and thoughtfulness. Throughout our stay, I commented repeatedly to my wife and the friends we were travelling with about how this guy truly seemed to enjoy his work and it showed, to which they all agreed.

What capped it off was what happened after we left the hotel. We had eaten breakfast at the hotel, checked out and walked with our luggage to the train station (about a 10 minute walk). We boarded the train, got ourselves settled and were ready for the trip to Venice when my wife said she thought she heard our names. I hadn’t heard anything so and didn’t think anything of it. Then, about five minutes before we were set to depart, it dawned on me that I had forgotten a small bag with my camera, iPad, and other essentials on the floor at the hotel. After no more than 10 seconds of contemplating what to do, in rushed the hotel manager, bag (and scooter helmet) in hand. He handed me the bag and rushed to get off before the train left the station. I was stunned, grateful and more convinced than ever that I was unlikely to see this level of sincere individual commitment again any time soon.

Not surprisingly, I would highly recommend a stay here if you are visiting Florence.
