“Best Value of the entire trip. Great hotel. Will definitely stay here again.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 September 2011

Overview: This is a great little hotel. It is a 15 minute walk from the SMN train station (1.3km). The city seemed quite safe even in the dark, and the hotel is right on the river and has a well lit parking area in front. This was a great hotel for the money, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The common room is converted into the breakfast area in the morning. Florence is a town that is very easy to walk around, so paying more to closer isn't really worth it. Probably a 4 star hotel, but at the price, a 4.5. Definitely would stay here again.

Pros:
- Very reasonable priced. Just unbeatable value.
- Right on the river which has a decent view from a couple rooms.
- Spacious rooms.
- Extremely helpful multi-lingual staff, especially the morning staff.
- Large bed with decent comfort.
- Great gelataria place right down the road
- A good small hotel atmosphere, especially at breakfast

Cons:
- Shower only had a slight glass shield, not a full closing door or curtain. Tough for Americans to get used to.
- Since it is right on the river, you can’t open the windows for fresh air because of the mosquitoes/insects.
- There are only a few rooms and they’re all on one level and a few of them open right up to the common area which can be noisy any time of day which can be tough at night if they are moving around tables or watching TV loudly. We still got our sleep, but just something to note.
- Not a lot of restaurants nearby compared with the other parts of the Florence. This was a small issue on Sunday nights when we we arrived late (~9PM), but the other nights was not an issue.
- Room service is provided even if you don’t want it. Our wet towels were folded and hung one on top of the other.

Great hotel, clean, large rooms, very, very reasonable price, friendly helpful owner. A friend stayed at a 4--star hotel and said the Relais il Cestello was better and a fraction of the cost.

Room Tip: last room on the left on main level

The hotel was most charming, and our room was generous space-wise for 3 adults. The room was very clean. We had what appeared to be a corner room, and we had a view. The breakfast food was plentiful and tasty. We enjoyed our mornings at breakfast visiting with others staying at the hotel. Just as the hotel website states, the hotel is well situated for access to the sites in Florence. We walked everywhere we went in our 4 days in Florence - train station, Accademia, the Uffizi, Palazzo Vecchio, Duomo, and all around the area of Santo Spirito. We emailed in advance and asked if the hotel would book us reservations for the Uffizi and Accademia. They did that, and we didn't experience a wait in a long line. Upon checking out, the hotel stored our luggage while we saw a few more sites before leaving by train for Rome. All hotel staff were helpful and courteous. We would definitely return and stay at this hotel!

We picked this hotel based on the many reviews. While this is the quieter section of town, our room was above a restaurant with music and the music and noise went on for hours. If you like to go to bed by 10-11pm, best to get ear plugs. Besides that, the room did have a river/parking lot view and the room is basic with just enough space for a bed, side table chair and a small desk. Free wifi was nice.

Room Tip: For a quieter room, ask for a room in the back

I hesitate to write about Il Cestello because I am awful and selfish and want to keep the best known secret, just that. If you are a traveller and not a tourist and want to be greeted by a sincere smile when you come "home", then this is the place for you. Marco, a lover of UCONN basketball, is the reason ( among others ) to come. He actually cares about you and how he can help: never being too much in the center. He is gracious. Even my Florentine friends like calling and leaving a message!
When the bells of Il Cestello wake me and I open the shutters wide and look out over the rooftops, I feel a part of Florence even if for a few days.
My only wish is that the cornetti be hot from the bakery. I feel guilty even saying that.
I would pass up every other hotel for this gem. E vero!

This hotel is 20 mins walk from the train station with luggage, and walkable from all the main sights of Florence, so very well located.
Staff were nice - we'd asked for a twin on booking but were given a double at first, which the manager quickly and pleasantly sorted out for us, and I was able to get some tea one evening (which I was craving after 5 days travelling in Italy without a cuppa!). The twin room was a good size and clean.
The hotel isn't on a main road and so doesn't suffer from traffic noise, however, I was kept awake by noise from guests arriving at 1am and dragging suitcases across flagstone floors and other guests generally moving around - I think the rooms are just not massively soundproofed with tiled floors and wooden furniture, so I didn't sleep terribly well, not all the hotel's fault but just beware if you're a light sleeper. Other negative comment would be that the shower was weak (only powerful when cold!)
Overall, though, good value for money and well located.

Very clean, cute rooms, away from hustle and bustle of main city area. Good breakfast, good service and fabulous location. Free wi-fi was not very good, needed to sit in lobby to use. However, would definately recommend this hotel for a few night stay in this lovely city.
