We stayed here with a group and this place was a pleasant surprise. The staff was friendly, helpful and welcoming. Rooms were clean. Decor is interesting throughout. I'm not sure what you you would call this style. There's a lot of red used in the rooms as well as lilac. Breakfast was quite good. We had a little walk to the centre past the SMN train station. Unfortunately my room overlooked the train station and I could here every train that came and went all night long. I managed to get some sleep. Watching Italian tv helps to drown out the sound of trains.

Room Tip: Away from the train station if you are sensitive to noise.

I really enjoyed this hotel. Very clean and large room, delicious breakfast, and very friendly and helpful staff. One of the hotel clerks even spent over 20 minutes talking with me about all the places I needed to go since I only had 2 days in the city. Her recommendations were spot on! The location is very close to the train station and you could easily walk to most of the attractions in the city. I would stay here again if I returned to Florence.

It is our first visit to Florence. We booked this hotel via agoda.com during mid August. We arrived today (13 Sep) and found out this hotel has closed! Another 3 tourists later arrived after us. The hotel has pasted 4 pieces of paper with words "Hotel closed". The reception was empty, all the doors were locked and inside was very dark. We ended up stranded without a hotel and spent a lot of money to make oversea calls to Agoda customer service help desk. Unfortunately Agoda did not help us to find an alternative hotel. Anyways, we want to quickly inform Agoda about this. We also wasted an hour outside the hotel.

arrived today and it turned out that this place is closed!
I fully paid the rate online at EXPEDIA.COM. Expedia charged me full rate without any notice that this place turned down.
it cost me almost thousand dollars to find another hotel in the totally fully booked city of florence. (checking 15 hotels by taxi, phonecalls cancelled meetings and so on).
Be aware of Expedia.com as well as the Hotel Da Vinci!

A group of 18 foreign travelers tried to check in at the same time and were not able to find suitable alternative!

Booked this hotel September 9, 2013 for 3 nights, found out upon arrival that hotel is closed apparently for the whole month; had to find another hotel in the middle of the night. The hotel
website is still excepting reservations and payments. Very irresponsible, as bad as Italian driving habits! Buyers be ware, the are no rules in Italy, just guidelines!

Stayed here at the end of our Italy trip, previously staying in Mestre/Venice & Lake Garda. Arrived by car (using sat nag) and no problems finding place. Had picked this hotel as knew it was outside the ZTO no entry zone, but still within walking distance to the centre (didn't want a €100 fine !!). After driving round the back of the hotel to park, found the hotel car park full, with cars parked in front of other cars. Was a little worried, so briefly parked in one of the parking bays on the road outside (this is at the back of the hotel and right up against the wall where the railway line is above, check it out on google street view) and nipped in to ask where to park. Turns out, you leave the keys at reception and the staff manoeuvre the cars about, depending on who needs to be in/out. Not so bad then. It is €15 a day to park.

Checked in, woman was really friendly and chatty. Gave us a free map of the city and also vouchers for a free drink for all 4 of us (2 adults & 2 kids) in the bar downstairs on the first night. Went upto our rooms (lift was a but cramped with 4 of us in and our bags) which we found to be very spacious indeed. Family room, and kids had their own seperate single beds. Bathroom was very nice and the shower was very spacious and modern. There was a safe in the cupboard, free of charge. City tax to be paid on departure. Went down for our free drinks and got talking to the barman, a Fiorentina fan, who was very nice.

To get to the centre, you just turned left out of the hotel and walked straight down and you came to the railway station. This stretch of road is a bit barren, and I can understand some people's concern late at night, but we never encountered any problems, although numerous beggars around the city and I also got accused of stealing a 30 cents postcard of a mad old guy on a stall opposite the railway station, next to Santa Maria Novella, which kind of put a dampner on things. Went to Pisa on the train for the day, to see the tower. Easy walking distance from the hotel to all central places in Florence really. Walked as far as the Piazzale Michelangelo to see the stunning views across the city roof tops, and obviously Pontevecchio & Duomo.

As for when you are around Florence itself. Plenty of supermarkets (such as DeSpar) selling bottled drinks (Coke/Fanta etc) for around €1.50 instead of paying upto €3 in other places.

Summary, Michelangelo had really friendly staff, very clean and spacious, and for us, ideal location outside the ZTO zone but within walking distance of the city centre.

Stayed in this lovely hotel while on a quick stop in Florence. Close to the train station which made it convenient for us to travel to this beautiful city from Venice and back to Rome. The Hop-on hop-off buses were just behind the train station. The hotel is tastefully furnished with replicas of Da Vinci's artwork. Very clean, room was spacious, shower was separate from the toilet (but nowhere to hang your towel or robe, must leave stuff on a stool outside shower stall!). The free breakfast was sumptuous and heavy, got us throughout the day of touring the various sites). Very friendly, pleasant, helpful staff. Stowed away our luggage until we were ready to go back to Rome late in the afternoon. Loved the ambience at the restaurant, not crowded but enjoyed the $20 3-course dinner immensely. Will definitely go back if I can afford another trip to Italy.
