My wife and I were on cruise. The shore excursions can take in Pisa and Florence, but by the time you queue onto the bus, drive slowly, wait for everyone there is no time to climb the tower or see everything in Florence.
As a couple this was an expensive option for us, but if we had more people it would have been cheaper. That said, it was money well spent. Sergio was happy to take us wherever we wanted to go and stay as long as we liked.
Sergio asked if we would like to go to Luca and explained we could hire a bike and ride along the top of the rampart. We took him up on that and it was beautiful. Something no one else on the ship did, I'm sure.
Sergio himself is fascinating. He has been a senior exec is sales and marketing and now runs tours as well having a b&b in Morocco which I now want to visit. He is well read in politics, culture, history etc and made me feel like I need to think more. We had great conversation, but I also felt that if you just wanted to look out the window, he would be fine with that.
We had the option of a guide on top of Sergio and they might not like me saying this, but I can't imagine why you need one. He even showed us his favourite lunch spot which had real and super fresh Italian food.
A fabulous day out and I think the only way to see so much in so little time.
