Sorry Elena it has taken me so long to write this review! I scheduled a private tour for our family of 4 (kids age 10 and 12) end of May 2014 because I didn't want to spend time trying to plan and determine what to see in Florence and didn't want to spend more than 6 hours in Florence. Our goal was to see key sights - mainly the Statue of David and get back to our lovely castle in Siena where we were staying and relaxing. Elena greeted us at the bus station and spoke excellent English. We got much more than a "quickie" tour through Florence. She told several interesting stories as we passed various sites that I have shared with friends as we share our Italy photos. Having Elena coordinate our tickets and what line to get in at the Statue of David was a bonus and saved us time and frustration! By the way, the Statue of David was my favorite site in all the historical monuments in Italy. She kept the kids engaged, she found me a great chocolate shop (I'd been looking for one in Rome and Venice and couldn't find one!!), and dropped us off at an excellent restaurant at the end of the tour. Both myself and my husband wish we could have had Elena with us for a tour of Siena. We stayed 3 nights in Siena to relax, but didn't really feel like we left Siena with an understanding or unique history of the city. We spent 3 hours touring Florence and because of Elena's knowledge have several nuggets of excellent history! If I was planning another trip to Florence, I would still call Elena to make our trip more efficient and learn more about the history. Private tours are the way to go, especially with someone as knowledgeable as Elena (and when you have kids tired of statues)! Oh and we loved having someone with us who spoke Italian and could tell us what the Italians were arguing about in two different situations. Kids loved that! Thanks Elena! You were great!!
