I stayed in Firenze for the month of July 2013 and frequented The Friends Pub. The bar keeper was indeed friendly and poured a perfect pint of Guinness. The weather in July was wickedly hot and a late afternoon pint was most welcome. I also felt welcome. I would sit at a table, read Dan Brown's Inferno and watch folks come and go and the owner interact with his friends. The pints are reasonably priced. The pub is just a few minutes from the Ponte Vecchio (on the Oltrarno side) and not in a really touristy area. The pub doesn't open until around 3 or 3:30pm and isn't terribly busy before supper. I highly recommend this spot for a bite to eat and a pint.
