Owner description: Italy on a Budget tours is a leading Italian travel company based in Florence offering epic trips in Italy for young adventurers aged 18 -39 with a local, passionate, crazy, fun, easygoing and professional crew. The tours are the perfect opportunity to make new friends and meet people of the same age while learning, tasting and visiting what the territory has to offer in a fun environment. We offer day tours, city breaks and holidays in the major Italian destinations such as Florence, Tuscany, Pisa, Cinque Terre, Rome, Venice, Amalfi coast, Sicily and lots more. English is the only language used during the tour, while you think this is obvious, many Italian companies have their tours in several languages. On our tours you won't have to listen the guide repeating the same things over and over again in 4 languages. The tours are more personal and certainly more entertaining.

We have been on loads of tours. Some awesome, some crappy and some even dangerous. The Taste of Tuscany Wine Tour from Italy on a Budget Tours was our best ever and we highly recommend and even demand that you get on it. The combination of fun, hilarity, education, activities and value for your Euro makes this tour a MUST do while in Florence.

Italy on a Budget Tours was created to allow young (hopefully old too) backpackers the ability to tour Italy without breaking the bank. They offer day trips, cooking classes, bike tours, pub crawls and food tours among many others. The Taste of Tuscany Wine Tour bounces its patrons in a Mercedes van around Siena, the Chianti wine region, Monteriggioni, and ends with a jovial dinner on a farm in Poggibonsi.

The tour guide and company owner was a hilarious and spunky Italian named Irene. She was cracking up our group the entire trip with her witty naughty humor, stories and improv. She gave us our own Italian names and was by far the best guide we have ever had. Her adorable British accent (she will erroneously claim she doesn’t have one) made the trip extra enjoyable. Our crew was a lively and lovely group of cheeky Anglo Saxons that spanned across the States, Wales (look it up) and West Australia. We had a cool honeymooning couple as well as 3 sisters from Spain on a bachelorette party.

The first stop was a winery located in the fertile Chianti Classico region amongst legitimate breathtaking scenery. The spot was called Casa Sola, a beautiful private winery that dates back to the year 1000! The house was covered in artistic vines overlooking precious beckoning grape vines. The owner Maria walked us through the entire olive oil & wine making processes. It was quite fascinating to learn the intricacies of both.

They are a medium sized estate that produces 130,000-160,000 bottles a year. One very interesting take away is that the small French oak barrels that are the best to age special wine in cost 1,000 euros for just one barrel. Maria outlined the proper way to gauge the quality of a wine through smell, observation and taste. Uniform color is an indication of high quality. We sampled the Chianti Classico and the Special Reserve and we could really taste the difference. The reserve was simply sublime, rich and smooth with a magnificent long finish.

The second city we visited was Monteriggioni, a pristinely preserved medieval town with a resounding population of 40. The movie “Gladiator” was filmed in this historic lil town and its nickname is the “Crown of Italy”. It was a strategic town in the incessant historic wars between Siena and Florence. It was a cute historic town with fortress walls to traverse and gorgeous radiant green fields to gaze upon. Unfortunately there was not a station set up to sword fight, joust or shoot bows and arrows but we are going to get in touch with the Mayor/Earl/Duke of Gladiatorville to see if we can change that.

The amazing town of Siena was our third stop on this festive expedition. We visited the major sites like the ostentatiously magnificent Siena Cathedral as well as the Il Campo Square where a famous makeshift horse race is held every year.

Our final stop on this magical excursion was Giovanni’s old school Tuscan farm in Poggibonsi, Irene’s hometown. Giovanni is such a sweet and funny old man. He does not speak a word of English but is soooo endearing and intent on making you eat and drink as much as Italianly possible. His food was solid and we had a hilarious dinner with loads of wine induced inappropriate talk galore.

We deemed it proper, since most Americans feel entitled to deem things, that the bachelorette needed a celebratory lap dance. We kept urging our new friend the shy Welshman Matteo to oblige but he was a little too timid to give the Espana bride a well-deserved lap dance. We guess the Welsh will only give lap dances to their sexy sheep. The Hedonist ended up having to step up to the live female pole and grind on her until she could not breathe from laughter. The whole crew was signing, drinking, laughing and dancing like we had been friends forever. It was truly a very special dinner and trip. On the ride home after dinner DJ Irene was spinning tracks that had the whole van literally jumping, dancing and twerking onboard.

The Taste of Tuscany Wine Tour was nothing short of superb. Irene was the best tour guide we have ever had and we have been touring to over two dozen countries. Next time you are in Florence make sure you visit Italy on a Budget Tours and let Irene literally rock your Italian world!

My boyfriend and I started off our trip to Florence doing the Taste of Tuscany tour. It was INCREDIBLE!! Nicco, our guide, was friendly, informative and a lot of fun. He took us to some beautiful sights (including the stunning world heritage site Sienna) and then to the highlight of the trip, a delicious and authentic home cooked dinner by a Tuscan local called Gianni. (We love Gianni!) We loved the tour so much that we took the Pisa and Cinque Terre tour today, which was equally as fantastic! Our guide Alessandro was helpful and fun, and the sights we were taken to were just beautiful. My boyfriend and I have travelled a lot around the world (we have currently been travelling for 2.5 months!) and the Italy on a Budget tours are by far two of the best things we have done! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

My Husband and I took the Pisa / Cinque-Terre tour which was led by Alex. He speaks perfect English (and italian) with hardly any accent at all. You will not have any trouble understanding him. The most valuable part of this tour is that Alex takes care of all the logistics of transportation and gives advice as to what to see in your short time at each place. He is very knowledgeable of all the places we visited, but if you're looking for a historical informational "headset type of tour" this is not the tour for you. It's basically, he gets you there without a hitch and you're free to explore once you get there. Although, I enjoyed this tour and am not really sure how we would have gotten to Cinque Terre without Alex's help, I would prefer to stay there a couple of days to have time to really explore. If you're just interested in seeing these places briefly without the all-day walking trip, this is the tour for you. Alex is is a great guide and, for the younger girls out there, he looks a lot like Johnny Depp.

My partner and I went on the Italy on a Budget - grape escape tour. Given the cost of activity, we were expecting a budget tour, with a sip of wine. How wrong we were! Our guide Alex was fantastic, really knowledgeable and tuned into the top tips people need whilst visiting Florence. He has a wicked accent and can impressively switch from Italian to English perfectly. We had plenty of wine!! Plenty of fun! Met lots of lovely people! The views throughout the day are stunning!! This was defo a highlight of our Rome/Florence trip! I would say it is a must do and would 100% recommend it!!

Our family of four enjoyed an incredible day in Tuscany with our driver Emanuele. We met on schedule and traveled to San Gimignano where we began our day exploring the walled city and eating gelato! Emanuele used our time in the car to explain the history of the city and to tell us about the Tuscany region. After San Gimignano we drive through the vineyards to visit the Torciano Winery. We spent several hours in the lovely tasting room, learning about the wines of the region and the history if the winery. Even though we were not technically having lunch, we were treated to plates of meat, cheese, breads, cookies and of course WINE! The nephew of the owner made our experience very special and fun. We tasted inexpensive to very expensive varieties. After a leisurely tasting we moved on to a quick stop in Monterrigione where we had time to walk the walls. Finally we headed to Siena, where we saw the cathedral and visited the synagogue. Emanuele took very good care of us, walking us to the center of the city so we did not get lost and directing us to the places we wanted to visit. When we met him to depart the city he greeted us with a gift of cookies he thought we would enjoy. Our day ran quite longer than planned but Emanuele did not rush us at all. And all this for a very, very reasonable price. Leading up to our trip I had many e-mail exchanges with the owner, Irene, who was beyond lovely and accommodating. My daughter who is studying in Florence this semester has done several trips with Irene and has enjoyed every one. Although they advertise as budget rips there was nothing budget about this experience.
