“Very rude waitress, felt extremely unwelcome.”
Reviewed 13 July 2014

People often say that for Italians, service is not a priority, hence why the English often find wait staff a bit abrupt. However, the night before we ate at Cent'ori, the waiting staff at Osteria Antica Mescita San Niccolo (a few doors down) had proven this wrong and given us an extremely enjoyable meal with excellent service and food. THEN WE ATE HERE. It was the worst evening and meal we had in Florence, and put a real dampener on our last night in the city. DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU ARE A TOURIST. You will not be welcomed. The food was average. The atmosphere was frosty; as soon as we sat down we knew we'd made a mistake choosing to eat at Cent'ori. The blonde waitress was extremely cold. She gave us funny looks when we had to check the English version of the menu again. The whole experience was actually quite upsetting. Needless to say we quickly ate our food quickly (my best friend had gnocchi with porcini and I had the spinach & ricotta ravioli- we didn't bother ordering secondi), asked for the bill and left, leaving no tip. Overall, if you're in the vicinity of Piazzale Michelangelo, always choose the Osteria Antica Mescita San Niccolo over this place.

A little more about our experience:
We waited for someone to notice that we wanted to sit down; no one was sat inside, and the outside tables were full of locals (normally a good sign for quality of food), as well as the owner and other local men who seemed to be celebrating. We requested to sit outside so the waitress begrudgingly moved some tables around. It was a little intimidating and we could tell the owners and his pals were having a little laugh at our expense in Italian (I understand a little and did my best with the Italian menu that the waitress handed us when she clearly knew we were tourists).
She was extremely cold and unwelcoming, whereas she was polite and smiley to the other customers; we didn't even get a smile?! It just seems that, in a city that relies on tourists during the summer season, they would a bit more accommodating. Also, not ordering wine that evening seems to be a big problem. We were served soft drinks in the bottle. With no glass. What kind of service is that??? Also, not their fault, but the outdoor seating is currently surrounded by road works- not exactly a buzzing atmosphere.

“Food is ok, but the owner......”
Reviewed 8 July 2014 via mobile

The owner is rather polite to locals, but particularly rude and abrupt to tourists of non-Italian speaking language. Quite disappointing really, we felt quite unwelcome

“This restaurant makes me feel so welcome in Florence”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

I had lunch and dinner in the Centori several times, each time the food is simply very good and so are the prices. The staff is great, friendly and caring. When you come back just once they will remember what kind of wine you prefer and they take great care of any other requirements. In my case eating gluten free. Love the fact that all the restaurant is filled with the neighbourhood.
When in Florence this is the only restaurant I go to!

“Twice A Charm”
Reviewed 1 July 2014 via mobile

We traveled Italy for two weeks, including 3 nights in Florence. Centori was the only restaurant our family visited twice. Around the corner from our hotel, we chose Centori the first night because t was close and easy. We sat in the back near the kitchen and the desserts where we watched the Centori staff work their magic. All of our dishes were glorious and the desserts even better. We returned two nights later for another quality meal. This is everything one would expect in a casual Italian restaurant. Go there!!

“lovely modern take on traditional recipes”
Reviewed 18 May 2014

we had a very pleasant dinner in this modern trattoria. the atmosphere is very warm as well as the service, which if a bit not very attentive, was always with a smile. the house wine (red) was so so but the 2 pasta dishes we tried were good. the papardelle ragu tasted really homemade and was delicious. the pici with tomato sauce and chilli lacked somehow this extra zing but the pasta was very well cooked and overall it was a very satisfactory dish. the best thing about this eatery is the warm unpretentious atmosphere. the lighting, the air, the modern take on a rustic tradition make it a characterful little gem perfectly located in one of the most charming and romantic locations in firenze
