“Hotel Palazzuolo: clean & good price/quality balance”
Reviewed 12 May 2008

we booked three days at the Palazzuolo Hotel, following some good reviews in Tripadvisor

The Hotel is a 1 star, and that's what U get.

We got quite a big room, with a third bed we didn't need.
The hotel is very clean, but very basic: we had only one towel each, and there were only 2 soap bars in the bathroom.
We didn't choose breakfast, so we couldn't check it.

The hotel position is very good: 5 minutes from the station, Santa Maria Novella and the river Arno, 15-20 minutes from Piazza della Signoria.
The area may seem a bit scruffy, but is becoming more and more vibrant, with good trattorias and cheap pubs (we had a spirit and a pint of beer for 2.5 euros each, in a pub very near to the hotel).

It's not a bad value for money, for 75 euros the double room with bath, but for the same money, if U're lucky, U can get nicer B&Bs all over Florence.

A negative note: the night before leaving, we were asked by the concierge to pay in advance, so I had to point out that it wasn't my use to escape at night (especially for such a small sum), and that in any rate I placed a credit card booking, so there was no problem in any case...

This place looked ok on its website and had some good reviews on Tripadvisor. On arrival we were dissapointed by the lack of ny comforts in the room. The room can only be described as being a 'monks cell' all it had in it was two single beds and a bere table there was no TV or phone. The breakfast consisted of croissants or toast in plastic wrappers and cold coffee which had to be heated in a microwave. The ensuite shower was appalingly laid out and decrepid. They had the cheek to ask for €100 per night. When compared to nearby hotels thisplace is not worth €20 per night - Avoid thisone like the plague.

this hotel was very easy to walk to from the train station.safe & cute little area.very clean, and the staff is SO NICE!!! only thing is having to carry all your luggage up the stairs, but that seems to be the trend in europe, no elevators! haha the bathroom was TINY! but it was good enough for showering. breakfast was simple and was basically just cereal and juices which was good enough. close to internet cafes and other convienence spots. big windows in the room..i would stay here again!

Very close to the train station. My friend and I got the room downstairs near the breakfast area. The room was very basic, not great, but decent. Shower was like something from an old apartment with a mildew shower curtain which didn't drain well. The worst part was when we arrived the door was wide open and there were a ton of mosquitoes in the room, and mosquitoes would end up in the room at the end of the day. A/C did not work. I thought the neighborhood was fine.

You get what you pay for: good price for the location. Our room overlooked the street and was noisy (earplugs were good!). The shower cubicle in the bathroom not v. clean.... Breakfast was poor: weak coffee and not much in the way of food on offer. The orange juice was cordial. Access is up a flight of approx. 30 stairs so not suitable for anyone with mobility problems (unless there's another entrance we didn't see). Staff on reception varied from the very friendly and English-speaking to downright surly with seemingly no understanding of English. I don't expect everyone to speak my language, but when you try a few faltering words of Italian and just get an uninterested blank look in return, it isn't good in a service environment!

Our stay at Palazzuolo had nothing wrong with it really. The LOCATION was GREAT, maybe 4 minutes from the train station/10 from the city center. There was a free breakfast that was quite satisfying. Our room had a shared bathroom in the hall that was perfectly clean while we were there. Our room itself was small, but we were only paying 44 Euro a night (we went out to pay 65 for a MUCH smaller room in Rome) and it had plenty of room for our stuff with room to spare. We had a nice courtyard all to ourselves and a TV and Air Conditioning.
The people at the desk were very nice and helped us find a nice restaurant when we asked them. They even remembered who we were and had our key ready for us when we would come in at night. I would recommend this hotel to anyone around college age, as for its price unless you are a total snob you should find nothing wrong with it, as long as it is in the same condition it was while we were there. Great location, free breakfast, air conditioning, clean, and nice staff earns this place 4 stars. Not 5 because the room was a little cramped.

This hotel seemed more like a hotel you rent by the hour. We were told this was a 3 star but it is in fact a 1 star hotel. We were lucky enough to have a bathroom in our room but I don't think any of the other rooms on our floor had one. The room (especially the bathroom) was dirty and moldy. The bathroom was really gross and the shower was just in the middle of the room. No surround or curtain or anything. eww! The room had an AC unit at least! The staff was less than helpful and even bordered on creepy at times. We finally got new towels (but not sheets) on the third day we were there. The beds were very uncomfortable. We got a king bed which turned out to be 2 twin beds just pushed together. They would slip apart during the night and you often woke up half out of the bed. While this hotel is close to the train station, it is in less then desirable neighborhood. Overall, my suggestion is spend the money to stay somewhere else!
