“At home in the heart of Florence”
Reviewed 9 June 2013

Recommended by a friend. Wonderfull place. Very friendly and helpful staff. In the heart of old Florence. Walking distance to most interesting places and train station.

Only inconveniente. Political event in Piazza de La Signoria with loud speakers.

Room Tip: Apartments include a kitchen

This is our favourite hotel in Florence. All staff wonderful, friendly especially Monica. Position fantastic near all the galleries, duomo, etc. The rooms gorgeous and breakfast also great in a beautiful dining room. It is right on Piazza della Signoria, with great Gelateria near. Look forward to staying there agin. We haven't been there since 2009. Hopefully will go agin soon

We have been to Florence many times and this is our new favorite place. The location is wonderful but CAUTION, do not attempt to drive to the hotel. With the many one way and restricted streets, take a cab to the hotel from the train station. The hotel staff was wonderful about coming to get us (in our car) and helping us get to the hotel. The rooms are lovely with modern bathrooms. The owner and her staff were very friendly, helpful, and warm people who love their tiny hotel and enjoy the guests. They became friends! Although we were familiar with Florence, it had been some years since our return and they were very helpful to recommend some restaurants which were not touristy but excellent. The breakfast is wonderful and made to order whatever you want. It overlooks the piazza so it is very pleasant. We will certainly stay there again!

Room Tip: We had a very nice room overlooking the piazza.

Residenza in Piazza della Signoria is all about a good location, nice rooms and a good breakfast. It could improve on some important tools like free Wi-Fi: They claim to have it but it did not reach my room. Also, when checking out – around 9 AM, I had to wait for more than 30’ as there was no one to hand me my bill and charge it to the credit card. If I had a plane to catch this would be a problem.
Other than that, I spent a good time in Florence and I recommend this hotel, especially due to its location from where you can walk everywhere.

I have travelled all over the world, good places and bad. Not a complainer, but this place a big disappointment. They advertise it as a cute B&B, it's just a business, we weren't even treated that well (like a business). The owner wanted our keys to make duplicates and she was going to bring them back "right away". Hours later she still had not returned. We had 1 full day in Florence, we waited most of the morning to get our keys back. The staff called her twice - each time she was "on her way". Finally she arrives in her Mercedes, opens the window, throws our keys to her staff, and takes off. Since it does not take hours to have a key made, clearly she was using our time to do her own errands. No apology, nothing. This is just plain wrong. ....and do not stay in the Mateo apartments, it's a walk to breakfast, and no internet in Mateo either (when you are in a strange city, you must have internet to plan activities.) That was false advertising.

Room Tip: As stated above, do not use Mateo apartments if you need internet or anything else, because it's...

Dear Mr. Kee,

We are really very sorry about the inconvenient caused to your family during your stay with us. We were forced to take the keys and do a copy, because the guests that have been staying in the apartment before you, forgot to give us back them and we only have one pair of keys. As you have seen, the door of the Matteo apartment is a security one, so it is not so easy to get a copy and it took longer than normal keys. I also have to tell you, that I had to go back to the shop 3 times before they were able to make the right keys, that’s also why you had to wait so long. You did not know it, because you were spending your time, walking in Florence.
Another thing that I would like to mention is that the place where we are located is a restricted area, so it is not allowed to drive there ( as you know we are in the historical centre) , as I wanted to be as fast as I could, I drove there and I could not park in any place, so I gave the keys to my staff and run away.
Concerning the apartment Matteo, it is our “dependance” and as you had a dog with you , ( we usually don’t accept any animals in our Inn), we thought that it could be a perfect solution for your family. In our confirmation we mentioned that it has a separate entrance, 2 minutes walking from where we are located.
So again, I apologize for any trouble and for this misunderstanding, I hope that you would consider to come back and try again our “Home”, so that you could enjoy our services and get good memories of us.
Warm Regards,
Sonia Pini

We spent twelve nights here on our sixth visit to Florence, and it was the right choice for us. The location was great, the staff and owner couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming, and our accommodations were just fine. We stayed in the smaller apartment (Giulio), actually a small sitting room, an open kitchen at the end, a well-equipped bathroom, and a bedroom that is separated from the sitting room by a room divider. We kept our bags on the couch in the sitting room and ate our breakfast at the table. The bed was firm and there was a flat-screen TV on an easel opposite the bed that had Fox News and Fox Business channels as well as other US and UK channels. We had our breakfast coffee with the other guests in the breakfast room.

Great location and easily walkable to most Firenze sites, ample and lovely breakfast, super nice and helpful staff (thank you, Monica) and owner Sonia; large rooms with really nice bathrooms. Only negative is that the noise from Piazza della Signoria was sometimes loud enough to wake us up (garbage collection mostly).
