I made the mistake of ordering flowers. It must have been in a moment of romantic folly- better to burn 50 euros. They didn't impress my wife- and they stayed half dead in their cellophane wrapper until we left. My other mistake was to book a transfer from Florence airport. It would have been easier, qucker and cheaper to take a taxi. Well you live and learn! The hotel is lovely. It is grand but also has something of the feel of a Pensione. Our room overlooked the street but was large and very comfortable. The double glazing kept out the noise. Part of the charm of the place is that it is in a failry ordinary Florentine street. But it is very is well situated- just around the corner form Santa Croce and a few minutes walk form the Bargello. And it is near some of the best retaurants (Enoteccha Pinchiorri (3 Michelin stars and prices to match) is joined to the hotel- but we didn't eat there). It's not a place to take the family - but it is a place to go for a romantic weekend. We liked it. My only gripe - being expected to pay for internet access. Surely these days a luxury hotel can let you connect for free.

Room Tip: Go for rooms on the second floor.

Just stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. Location was wonderful , easy walk to all main attractions. Disappointed in view, guess you have to be on top floor to get more than city street view.

Having stayed in many luxury hotels in recent years we were looking forward to our stay in Florence. Perhaps our expectations were too high. However, we expected a bath in the bathroom, some drawers to put our clothes in, tea/coffee in the room. All of the above were at the airport hotel we stayed in the night before we flew to Florence. None were in the Santa Croce. The luxury would have been a bowl of fruit in the room maybe. There was a bottle of wine in the room but no means of opening it.
The breakfast eggs were poorly cooked whether scrambled or as an omlette, so we didn't try the expensive restaurant.
The public rooms were very grand, but to get a drink or coffee we had to play hunt the waiter, a process we had to repeat in order to sign for the drinks.
Having read all the other reviews we can only assume that our room was the poorest in the hotel.

Found this hotel on Trip Advisor. Splurged. Expensive and nothing is free, not even wi-fi. 30 Euro a person breakfast well laid out but not worth a penny if you don't have them make fresh eggs and bacon for you (they don't offer it but will make it).

Rooms and hotel are GORGEOUS. 26 rooms. Common rooms out of a Palace, which the hotel was.

Location is one block from Santa Croce Church which is not only a magnificiant monastery but a great square for eating and people watching.

Service and ambiance are superb! Only complaints: cost and LOUD closing of doors. Doors are solid wood and very heavy. When people left rooms or maids were cleaning, they would slam shut.

Room Tip: Beg for a view of the church. It makes cost ok

Dear Guest,

I would like to thank you for your kind review of our Palace.
We are delighted to read your feed back and to learn that you have very much enjoyed your stay with us.
Im afraid that for health and safety , security and fire regulations our doors must shut firmly behind our guests and even if indeed sometimes this could be a small disruption, we can not compromise in our guest safety, but I do thank you for your observation.
We do look forward to your return in the near future to Florence and our Palace, and please do not hesitate to contact me directly should you plan to come to Italy again.

Kind Regards

We stayed in a top floor room which was smallish but very comfortable, with good amenities. Very quiet but very convenient. The common rooms are like a museum - huge and extravagantly decorated in 18th century style. The top floor meant we had a view over the rooftops with a hint of Santa Croce. Delightful and helpful service. Delicious breakfast. Ask to see the royal suite if it's not occupied for a glimpse of ultimate luxury in an authentic palazzio.
