“Quirky, convenient, collegial Ester”
Reviewed 18 October 2013

Yes, it is just a few steps from the train station, though with an entry it shares with several other hotels, a small elevator to the third floor, a lobby and some rooms, and with more rooms on a fifth floor, the Ester on first glimpse is not very inviting. But the desk clerk was warm and welcoming, and the corner room on the fifth floor he ushered us into a spacious, bright and clean, with a five star view of the Florence cityscape and Duomo. The room also had functioning wi fi, a desk computer, a large TV, and an adjoining large bathroom that could have used some toiletries. And if needed, one could share a well appointed kitchen down the hall. But you really dont need to, given an array of nearby eateries, and the clerk's recommendations, along with discounts for guests. Convenient, clean, accommodating, great for an overnight or a few days.

Room Tip: Fifth floor, corner apartment with a view.

Pros:
+ Location by train station, literally 2-3 minute walk
+ Lots of restaurants nearby
+ Good price
+ Reasonable rooms - they upgraded us to the 'romantic suite' which was on the top floor with had a great view of the Duomo.

Cons:
- Small bed - the 'double' here is the small version, not sure how it works in Europe but was not what I expected
- No breakfast

Conclusion: A tough one since I wanted to give the hotel the highest rating - great location in an affordable area of town. However, the sleep quality (primarily due to the tiny bed) wasn't quite there for me so I took off one star. For a short stop in Florence I cannot imagine a better place and would return.

Tip: The breakfast place suggested by the front desk is good value, but horribly crowded in the mornings. For dinner turn right twice after leaving the hotel to go to a great street with good food. There is a gelato place which was featured in our food tour on this street and convenience stores if you want cheap water or snacks.

Stayed here and the room was barely bigger than the bed. Shower very nice though. Hotel is located in a noisy area and light sleepers may also be disturbed by 24/7 bang of iron lift door. Reception service was sleepy and disinterested. I was foolish enough to lose my rail pass under the bed. Hotel said they would send onto later hotel in my itinerary, but procrastinated too long for it to arrive before I left the country. Completely my own fault, but they could have been more helpful. Would not use again.

I arrived in Florence today and was greeted by a very friendly chap at Hotel Ester. Lovely hotel/apartment, clean and well appointed. Comes with a share kitchen which is great, close to the town centre and all the main sights are close by. Very happy to be staying here.

We stepped off the train at the Firenze SMN (main train station) and diagnollny across the road was our accomodation.
It's within walking distance to the Statue of David, San Lorenzo market and many other great attractions in Florence.
The service is fantastic and the stay includes free WiFi which is always something we look for when traveling. It makes life so much easier when always on the go.
The bed was comfortable and the bathroom very clean. Sky tv was also an exciting little feature as it meant we could at night watch some English television :-) Staff were very helpful with how to get around Florence and with booking tours.

Hotel Ester was a pleasant surprise as our expectations of Florence accommodation at this price point was not high. The hotel is simple and clean without any trimmings - although WiFi, Foxtel and a small fridge is included. Breakfast was not included, but there is a communal kitchen with cooking facilities. We were really lucky to get one of 3 rooms with a view of the dome thru 2 sets of windows. The room and bathroom were compact, but did the job. The hotel is several hundred metres from the Train/Bus Station and has many restaurants, the leather market, and all the museums within walking distance.

Room Tip: Ask for Room 24 or one of the other rooms with a view on Level 5 (Top Floor). The entrance to the h...

Hotel conveniently located near the station. The room as extremely small, it was literally a room with a bed. We are on our honeymoon and all other hotels we stayed in made a bit of effort either with a room upgrade or a small bottle of champagne, but this hotel did not even acknowlegde this. Extremely noisy in the corridoors and we had the first room near the reception,so it was very noisy. The bed was extemely hard, backache! The bathrooms are great though and the room was very clean with free wifi! Staff was friendly and showed us on a map of florence they provided, all the important sights and what to do. Pity there isnt breakfast included, you have to go accross the road to a little cafe for breakfast. And a word of caution, dont go to the reastaurants they suggest,I think they have a deal with them,as it is not as cheap and authentically tuscan as they propose!
