I couldn't believe what a room I got for 55 euros a night after being ripped off at Cinque Terre, and spending the night in a dump near the train station. Located in the restricted area of Florence where no cars are allowed, but you do have to climb a lot of stairs - yes. But what you get? If you take one of the upstairs rooms, you get a palatial suite! Painted ceilings, huge great room to hang out in if you like. Breakfast, maid service, friendly helpful folks at the front desk who will carry your bags up and down if you ask. Beautiful linens, comfy bed - I was in a room with 3 beds, paying single person price - when does that ever happen in Italy - and I didn't even have to bargain for it. This place is a treasure, as well as a bargain. I don't know why it is a one star hotel! Built in 1572 - a renaissance palace, for 55 euros in an expensive city! Oops, pressed the wrong button saying, terrible, obviously i loved the hotel!

Positives: great location near to the cathedral; big, spacious rooms; friendly and accommodating staff; good breakfast (within the context of Italy and the price); historic building.

Negatives: not nearly enough hot water for 4 of us to have a shower, not even enough for one to have a hot shower as I recall; not the warmest hotel, it was just about OK for us in October but I would think twice about booking in the winter. Probably keeps quite cool in summer.

Neutral: its on the second floor, which means four flights of stairs because of the age of the building. The price you pay for the historic building, so fine with us. But not for everyone.

We stayed at Hotel Bavaria for a week and extended our stay to see more of Florence and the Tuscan region. Great helpful staff at the 24 hour reception, lovely clean and traditional rooms and nice breakfast. Close walking distance to most attractions, 15 minute walk to the train station.

We got the recommendation for Bavaria thru Eurocheapo.com, and it certainly was a good place considering the E70 room price. The location is as central as you can demand, and the only iffy thing was to take your luggage up two storeys. The hotel looks like a house from inside, and you would do well to arrive early, and take your choice of room. We had to use a shared bathroom with our room. The breakfast was basic, but good, and you get a whole lot of eating options out on the street. Other than that, the bed was comfy, if not luxurious, but at this price, I'd hardly complain.

Really central. This place is part of the 17th-century Palazzo di Ramirez di Montalvo. It is really reasonably priced, but you have to book early for peak season.

Amazing location - able to walk to all major sites in Florence and only a few blocks from the river. Room was very spacious (we shared a bathroom). Nice breakfast, helpful & friendly staff. We will definitly stay here again.

Feels like an old Florentine Palazzo (which it is!) which is charming. Few ameneties but a great location to explore Florence.
Our bed not terribly comfortable and we had a shared bathroom situation, but this is a good deal if you are on a budget.
