I couldn't believe what a room I got for 55 euros a night after being ripped off at Cinque Terre, and spending the night in a dump near the train station. Located in the restricted area of Florence where no cars are allowed, but you do have to climb a lot of stairs - yes. But what you get? If you take one of the upstairs rooms, you get a palatial suite! Painted ceilings, huge great room to hang out in if you like. Breakfast, maid service, friendly helpful folks at the front desk who will carry your bags up and down if you ask. Beautiful linens, comfy bed - I was in a room with 3 beds, paying single person price - when does that ever happen in Italy - and I didn't even have to bargain for it. This place is a treasure, as well as a bargain. I don't know why it is a one star hotel! Built in 1572 - a renaissance palace, for 55 euros in an expensive city! Oops, pressed the wrong button saying, terrible, obviously i loved the hotel!
