“Stayed here with my family”

I got married in Florence on 30.06.11 and my wedding party stayed here for 4 nights. If you stay here you WILL need a car! Its about a 15 - 20 mins drive from Florence downs some lovely little lanes. The location is good as its lovely and quiet, you are surrounded by vines and olive groves. We booked most of the I Rossi accommodation as there was 24 of us staying. I loved the fact there was a big court yard so we sat outside most nights and all had a drink together. Some of the appartments are better than others. There was a problem with the AC in some of the appartments so it got very hot - as soon as i contacted reception he'd arranged someone to come and service its. Most of the appartments are very basic. My appartment didn't have a kettle and the i found the gas hob wouldn't light so i also mentioned this to Reception.
The beds are comfortable and all the appartments were very clean. We all got LOADS of bites so take you spray! The swimming pool was brilliant - very clean and nice. The wine and oil from Il Milione is lovely and they even make honey! Yum!
There is a lovely little town just down the road with shops to buy food. We didn't have breakfast at the accommodation as we found it cheaper to buy our own food.
I would stay here again as i now have fond memories here but i'd bring LOADS of bite cream!

What a wonderful place to stay, very close to Florence and yet it seems like you are far away at your Italian villa. The room was excellent with an amazing view all the way to Florence. Right be low our room was a great courtyard with a table and many chairs. There is a large pool and a restaurant on the property. We ate in the restaurant one of our two nights and the food was wonderful. The whole night was what you would dream of a night in Tuscany to be. We ate outside with the chef preparing the lamb & beef on a large outside wood burning grill. A wonderful view of the property which includes olive trees , vineyards ( they produce their own wine), fig trees and other fruits & flowers. Anna & Franco, the owners, are just amazing people who go out of their way to treat the quest to a first class italian expierence. I cannot recommend this place enough. Go , stay, eat , drink and enjoy a truily remarkable stay.

Wow.. What a view. We spent a total of 4 nights at the Fattoria Il Milione and couldn't have been happier.

Because it was our honeymoon, they suggested that we may want to rent the Casa Con Vista room which in all reality isn't really a room as it is it's own self sufficent building and located along a private road, as it was the same price, we jumped at the chance and boy were we glad we did.

The view from the cottage was prestine; overlooking Florence and was incredibly quiet. As this is located on a working farm, there were olive trees and grape vines only steps off of our courtyard which really helped add to the atmosphere of renting a farm house in Tuscany. Did I mention it was quiet? Throughout the day, the most prevalent sounds were the birds singing in the trees.

The cottage itself was quite large with three major rooms. The kitchen / Living room was well appointed with fridge (not stocked) and stove. A comfy couch, small TV, kitchen table. The cottage also supplied all the plates, Cutlery, bottle openers etc.
The Bedroom was huge with old antique furniture and a large bed.
The bathroom was suprising. It was large and very modern. The combination tub / shower was Jucuzzi with multiple jets.

The website seems to say that this place is easy to find, Trust me it's not. We were extremely happy that we had rented a GPS along with our rental car or I'm sure we would still be searching for it. The farm is located on top of a very large hill along a narrow and very windy road (the road would be tons of fun if you were driving a sport car). As the property is located only a few kilometers from Florence, it also acts as a fantastic homebase to explore the city and surronding areas (Pisa etc:)

The only downside of this property that we could think of would be:

1. The private road to reach the house is quite steep and gravel. We had to take a running start up the road, otherwise we would just sit and spin the tires.

2. The A/C is not included in the rental of the room. Although we found that it was really not required as the room was fairly cool during the day.

3. There are bugs.. Remember this is a farm. Although the room was clean, bugs do tend to find their way in. Not a big deal though

4. You must have a vehicle for this property. I am not aware of any busses that even come close as it is fairly secluded.

Another item of note. All water and other beverages can be purchased at the reception building (they just add the cost to the room bill)

Unfortunatley we do not have any pictures of the interior (we had taken a video) but we have many photo's of the views of the surroundings.

We stayed here on the night of our four-year wedding anniversary and we were blown away! The property is stunning and situated about 15-minutes outside of Florence. Our room overlooked the winery and the decor was charming and lovely. We had a small kitchen setup, a very comfortable bed, and a lovely bathroom. In walking the property (which is HUGE!) we were taken by the gorgeous scenery. We saw a horse grazing the fields, the lush green crops of the vineyard, a fantastic outdoor pool surrounding by tranquility, and stunning paths and trails that lead to more beauty. There is also a restaurant on the property and the food is immpeccable! nThe owners are the lovliest people you will ever meet as well! It is a must to have a car if you stay here, although you can take a taxi into the city of Florence (however, this is not inexpensive and some drivers will tack on an extra charge for driving you out of the city). This was by far our favorite place to stay on our Italian journey and we'd go back in a heartbeat!!

My wife and I spent about three weeks in Italy in May 2005. We stayed at Fattoria Il Milione for nine days, using it as a base to explore Tuscany. We couldn't have done better.

"Fattoria" means "farm", and that's what it is. It has grapes and olive trees mostly, and they sell olive oil and wine down at the reception. We didn't try any, so I can't comment on the local produce.

The layout is a series of small isolated buildings scattered around the farm, divided up into apartments of various sizes. The one we were in, "Casa Palestra", was around half a kilometre or so from reception, in a group of about four or five apartments.

While it's technically in Florence, you will need a car, as it's right out on the fringes, and no buses run out that far. The nearest village/suburb is Galluzzo, but even that is a short trip down a steep hill, and not really suitable for walking down to.

It's quite close to the Certosa exit from the A1 Autostrada, and there are signs pointing the way once you get to Galluzzo. The main roads through Galluzzo are essentially laid out in the form of an "A" anyway - you come in from the bottom right, cross over and head out from the botom left, and climb the hill to Il Milione. Heading straight on takes you into the centre of Florence.

The views from the property are fantastic. You're on a hill, surrounded by other farms, with the city below you. The only thing you hear are the birds. There are a couple of points where you can see the Duomo dome.

The apartments are self contained. We had a washing machine, dishwasher, fridge and stovetop in ours, along with some plates and basic cookware. A couple of odd omissions - no corkscrew, and no sharp knives. Good thing I had a swiss army knife with me. No toaster, oven or microwave either, so you're limited to what you can pan fry or stew. We bought supplies (including washing powder, dishwasher powder and so on) at a supermarket in Galluzzo and pretty much did our own breakfasts and dinners. This helped keep costs down. Just a word of warning with the washing machine - there isn't a dryer, so allow a good day or two for your clothes to dry. Airers were available to hang things on, no clothes lines.

Other than that, pretty much everything you need is there. Our apartment had a bookshelf, with titles in english and italian. The bathroom was a touch cramped, but functional. The bed was comfortable (bring your own alarm clock). The satelite TV has 300-odd channels, but not many in english.

A couple of times during our stay there were people in other apartments in our complex. The outside areas are common, and that's pretty much the only time I was aware of anyone else being there, although my wife reckoned she could hear the bloke next door one night.

If you're heading into Florence, we found it easiest to drive as far as Porta Romane roundabout, duck through the arch, and jump into the carpark on the left just beyond it (€1.50/hr), and then walk the last kilometre or so into the historical centre. You could catch a bus from there if you wanted to, but walking suited us fine. This trip is around fifteen minutes by car, with another fifteen on foot, and it's pretty straightforward. When you pick up the car, the carpark exits at Piazza Tasso, from where you can duck back up to Porta Romane and Galluzzo. This route is fairly straightforward, hard to get lost on, and avoids the more exciting bits of driving in Italian cities.

Il Milione's location near the Auostrada exit means you can quite easily get to other places further afield. The same junction (it's actually a big roundabout) lets you take off on minor roads and highways down to Siena and Chianti, while the road up to Il Milione continues through some beautiful Tuscan countryside and gets you to Volterra, San Gimignano and so on.

Il Milione was a fantastic base to explore all this from. You will need a car, but since the peace and tranquility of the farm was only costing us €100 a day, that left plenty for car hire, petrol and parking. Plus, we saved doing our own meals too.

Overall, I can't recommend it highly enough.
