“Fantastic and Unique - Casa Howard a real gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 September 2013

For travellers looking for a good base to explore Florence Casa Howard is well located on Via Della Scala 5 minutes walk from the main train station in Florence and very close to the church Santa Maria Novela which is a good well known landmark which makes it easier to find. But please note its not a hotel, so no toiletries or room service (except breakfast served in bed at time you request!). Rather it's like having an apartment in Florence with your own key to the front door and rooms. From the archaic lift to the Apartment on the first floor, the touches of distinct tasteful design in the rooms, bathrooms and common areas you feel transported in time from whereever you've travelled from to this is a stylish home in Florence that is now yours. So if you want to feel like a real Firenzian choose Casa Howard and you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Twin room left was very comfortable better than twin room right in my opinion, lots of storage space...

I stayed at Casa Howard for 3 nights in July with 4 friends and we loved it! We had both the studio room and garden room, which together made an appartment for 5 with a private patio. Each room is beautifully decorated and has real character. We opted to include breakfast which was served in our room and it was a lovely mix of fresh fruit, croissants, toast, yoghurts, tea, coffee and juice. It's a great location - only a short walk from the SMN station and a nice stroll to Florence centre or to the river. There is no reception at the hotel, but there were a couple of ladies who live onsite and who show you to your room and can be contacted by phone. The only slight negative was that we were charged city tax upon leaving even though on the hotel website it says the price includes all taxes. Other than that, we had a great stay and I'd definitely recommend it to friends and family.

The thing to note here is that this property is a guest house and not a full-service hotel and there is no restaurant. That being said, the property itself is very well decorated, tasteful and home-like. Two Filipino ladies look after guests and are friendly. Our room had a terrace with vines, beautiful high ceilings and quality furnishings. Bathroom was a bit small but manageable. The location is just off Piazza Santa Maria. If you are looking for a nice apartment-style accommodation in Florence, this would be a good choice.

Recently our party of six, rented two rooms, at CH Florence: the Drawing room and the Fireplace room. We loved this elegant property conveniently located a block to the left from Piazza Santa Maria Novella and a block and a half to the right from the SMN train station. Both the rooms, very large and sumptuously decorated, were situated on the 1st floor (one flight of stairs, but elevator available for my elderly mother) with marble floors and large windows overlooking Via della Scala. The air-conditioning was extraordinary as well. The wifi was also very reliable. Despite being located on the front of the building, we were never bothered by street noise. We used both rooms as triples; however, the Drawing room was larger and far more luxuriously decorated than an "American junior suite" and could easily have accommodated a family of four or even five with young children. Furthermore, the bathroom in the Fireplace room was beautifully extravagant, with a clawfoot tub in the center of the bath and an easy access, large walkin shower as well as a fireplace. Both staff members we met were efficient and very pleasant; and, they kindly assisted us with restaurant reservations, directions and even bandaids for a blistered foot. A continental breakfast was available for E8, a decent price for Florence; however, we preferred a full American breakfast at one of the restaurants down the street. A nice bonus to the location was the historic Santa Maria Novella profumo-farmaceutica located right next door where I stopped in to see first-hand where the lovely soaps in our rooms were available.

Room Tip: All of the rooms at this property are very different from one another, so we emailed directly to ask...

A wonderfully quirky hotel with such friendly staff, not Italian though! We had a lovely room with a sunken bath, a terrace and a separate room with sofas. We didn't have breakfast there but breakfasted in the cafe opposite; a cheaper option. Although in the centre of Florence, our room backed onto the rear streets and was as quiet as being in the country, not something we had experienced before in Florence. Would definitely stay there again when in Florence.

My daughter & I visited Florence this past May and stayed at the Casa Howard. What a delightful and unique place. Our room, on the "first" floor, overlooked all the goings on of the street below and yet was quiet and peaceful. The "Fireplace Room", is very large sized. It has two fireplaces, a huge bath and lovely artwork on the walls. We were treated to a lovely breakfast in bed each day and the staff was sweet and helpful. It's a short walk from the train station, just down the street from Santa Maria Novella Farmaceutica, a wonderful 400+ year old perfumery. And Dolce Forte, a great candy store is right across the street. I am looking forward to my next stay in Florence or even in Rome, at the Casa Howard!

I've stayed at Casa Howard in Florence more than once and each time it's like coming home, helpful, friendly staff, immaculate rooms, centrally located and a great value. I'm looking forward to going back soon -- and to one of the Rome houses as well. It's the first place I check for availability.

Room Tip: The twin rooms (left and right) are an excellent value and the drawing room is huge.
